There’s something just a little…sad…about news networks that feel the need to provide 24-hour newscasts. In my opinion, there are one of two ways to go about presenting news for 24 straight hours:
- Present relatively in-depth journalistic reporting in the vein of 20/20, Dateline, etc.
- Present tiny nuggets of news wrapping in layer upon layer of bullshit, flash, pomp, circumstance, and unnecessary analysts
Watching CNN is like watching a fucking Michael Bay film, except you replace the explosions and hot chicks with useless flashy graphics, maps, charts, and analysis that is either irrelevant or just doesn’t make any fucking sense at all. Case in point – after the end of the organized retardation that was the roll call vote at the DNC yesterday, CNN decide to have some cornball analyst predict what states Obama would need to win to take the general election:
Figure 1: Click here to see a video of this stupid fucking shit
The best part is how the anchor spent 20 awkward seconds explaining to Steve Hildebrand how to use the stupid fucking thing. We then proceed to have three and a half awkward minutes of this idiot making baseless assumptions about states Obama may or may not win to reach the magic electoral number. Thanks, CNN. That’s 210 seconds I could’ve spent masturbating.
Of course, at least this time the technology actually worked. Anybody remember the CNN pie chart clusterfuck from back in February during the Iowa caucus? For whatever reason, the producers at CNN decided to make Anderson “Stoneface” Cooper show a 3-D pie chart which was to be projected off a card he was holding. It failed MISERABLY.
Figure 2: Click here to see a video of this STUPID FUCKING SHIT
That’s right – Stoneface stands there pointing a card all up in your face like a cheating husband waving his cock around in the face of his mistress* while the “Best Political Team on Televsion” laughs awkwardly in the background and my precious time is wasted yet again. Of course, the pie fucking chart doesn’t add any value to the news cast. They could’ve just thrown it up on a regular screen. They could have used Excel. They could have even used a regular motherfucking pie. Of course, that would have violated CNN’s policy of…
And, of course, no self-respecting X-TREME NEWSCAST would have all these flashy useless graphics without a platoon of flashy useless idiots to man them and provide hour after hour of inaccurate predictions, forced analysis, and a heaping helping of unfounded ethos. That’s why we have The Best Political Team on Television:
Figure 3: Jesus fucking Christ…
Nothing screams ‘Gravitas’ quite like a bunch of over-the-hill political pseudo-analysts sitting behind a wall of laptop screens that, if you turn them around, probably have porn on them. Of course, this is the kind of thing that idiots find impressive and serves to distract the typical viewer that the Best Political Team on Televsion is ALWAYS WRONG ABOUT EVERY MOTHERFUCKING THING.
You can check out this clip to get a little dose of everything – unnecessary maps and other flashy shit, as well as useless commentary by the wall of laptops.
The most annoying thing about CNN, though, isn’t CNN itself. Rather, it’s the people who think they’re intelligent because they watch CNN. I didn’t even realize these people existed until I went off on Derek Ashong awhile back and some ass hat made the comment: “hopefully if you are watching CNN you have stepped up the vocabulary a touch with your decision to go beyond the local news.”
Anyone that thinks watching CNN requires a single brain cell more than is required to watch the local news is a complete and utter fucking lunatic who needs to have his testicles mailed to the Prince of Siam. I will conclude this post with my reply to the gentleman (or lady) that asked me to step up my vocab:
“…After all that, this guy, unlike you, doesn’t have time every evening to beat off to the works of Immanuel Kant while congratulating himself on his extensive vocabulary and ability to comprehend the ‘worldy and sophisticated’ flavor of CNN (CNN is a network that once aired a 15-minute segment on a water surfing squirrel. If this is your idea of high minded, then I apologize for arguing with you – because doing so is like fishing with dynamite).”
You must have a master’s degree to comprehend this instance of in-depth CNN reporting.
* It’s not really like that at all

FIRST
Ok, I’m also lame, now I’ll read the post.
I agree @ ishouldbeworking. Get back to work
Remember when Katrina hit, after the Iraq fuckery people thought that the news media, CNN and most especially Cooper were getting back on point and giving us what we really need in our journalism…not so much.
By the way:
It’s sad and hilarious when I can honestly say I get better news from The Daily Show and Bill Maher. Makes me think of Hendrix – “There must me some kinda way out of here said the Joker to the Thief… “
@Amadeo that’s a good observation about the Katrina coverage. Hopefully history won’t repeat itself with Tropical Storm Gustav.
Hmmmm…. But.. Anderson “Stone-faced” Cooper is so sexy for a gay* 2520!!
*OK… I am not sure if this is true or not, but…. let’s pretend and go with it.
LOL!
All news goes way over the top with all these graphics. The sad thing is they spent money on that bullshit and what does it do? NOTHING.
Touche!
But definitely agree that all the technology is pretty stupid. It’s just not necessary. The touch screen thing with all the pictures on it. It’s just too much. It’s like a big ass iPhone for politics. Being the Blackberry Addict that I am… I don’t like it.
Also I love the Anchormanish fight scene tactics of naming their political team.
I have one: The Best Motherfucking Political Team in this and any other Dimension….KING KONG AIN’T GOT SHIT ON US!
Not to mention that CNN is the fabulous news network that brought us the atrocity “Black in America.”
CNN is what you watch straight out of undergrad when you have a piece of paper that proves you are smart.
Am I the only one that remembers wayyyy back in the day when Faux news was the only one with the crazy graphics explosions. Which is why they are ruining the world. I miss BBC international
Sorry, I love CNN but mostly because it brought me TJ Holmes on Weekends. And what is life without TJ Holmes? *
* I kid. I kid. **
** totally not kidding.
I recently called DirecTV and asked them to remove CNN.
There are way too many people in our age bracket watching CNN because they believe doing so makes them more intelligent than others.
I don’t have time to watch CNN all day as I am out interacting with humans, speaking to animals a la Dr. Dolittle, and making love to cameras.
I also hate CNN cause of how Tony Harris (bitch ass) tried to get on Bomani over the “Read a Book” video. I rarely see anchors come off as hostile and try to shut people down but dude did just that and basically didn’t even pay any heed to what he was saying.
The scary thing is the power CNN has, after all people do watch this shit and believe it’s news. James Carvel made a comment that the DNC convention wasn’t exciting enough and the “Best Political Team on Television” spent the rest of the night repeating it like a bunch of fucking lemmings. The real problem isn’t with the Media, it’s the slack jaw yokle who doesn’t think to question what he’s being told… then again if it’s on tv it must be true right? CNN isn’t about news it’s about pushing propoganda telling people what to think insted of any reporting of events. Every network has it’s owm political motives behind it either left or right leading. I agree CNN sucks cock but at least it’s not FOX.
Ok… so please all of you massively intelligent people, please tell me what I need to do to become really intelligent. I read books, but maybe I don’t know WHICH books to read. I don’t watch TV, but when I do…. I watch CNN (which I just found out is the devil. Always thoughts so, but it’s better than Fox…right?) and I watch Food Network. Oh and I watch Law and Order SVU, because I think Mariska Hargitay is freakin awesome.
I don’t think me having a degree and pursuing another makes me “smart,” but I am trying to get up in the world with you guys so….point me in the right direction!
You guys in the states should just watch the BBC or if you’re up in the North CBC which is the Canadian Network no flash just news. I’ve met Americans who have moved up here and like our laid back approach to just about everything. After watching CNN for more then 2 hours I start to feel my blood boiling and I have to turn it off.
Good Morning SBPH Family!!!
Anderson “Stoneface, two last names” Cooper, has a strong ass nose…hmmm, someone was mixing the pot.
I have to be honest, I RARELY watch CNN (Black in America was a fucking waster of 3 nights!), I watch the local news everyday, but that’s it…it goes back to when 9/11 happened, I was like a freshman in high school and I was so devastated and scared about what the fuck was going on that I tried to block it all out and didn’t watch the news for at least 3 months-a similar thing occured after Hurrican Katrina…
as much as I should watch I have also learned that I have a huge problem with the local news and their constant coverage of Black violence and tomfoolery and their extremely RARE coverage of white bullshit, the spin they put on it is ridiculous: they will go into an inner city neighborhood and do continous updates and interviews with the “most ignant kneegrow” they can find when it’s a Bad Black Person story, but let a 2520 hack his family to death (which actually happend in my state) and it is briefly mentioned!
UGH…i now believe that i will die from a fucking aneurysm!
The Daily Show and Colbert Report are all I actually pay attention to here.
I watch some CNN and othe cable networks…then I go right to BBC and foreign news to get the outside perspective.
Then I ask my mama and grandmama what they think.
Amadeo….. You sir… are the best. “Then I ask my mama and grandmama what they think”
That would totally not work for me. My mom who is still not a citizen would be like “ummm… I mean. I don’t know.” My Gran would give me a complete long winded rambling with her thick British accent that would be her calling people stupid and ignorant.
Here in Atlanta the local news is like “This black person did this today. And then, on the Eastside a group of black people were doing this. So and so is live, So and so, can you tell us what happened?”
CBS convention coverage included a camera that only showed black people in the audience, there must not have been that many because the footage was on a loop and eventually the black people started repeating, based on this news cast I can now conclude with 123% accuracy that every single person in the audience of the convention was black.
@ Jess
A 2520 lawyers son killed his whole family here and tried to play it off but got caught…they were explaining why he perhaps shouldn’t be charged as an adult.
When dude got killed in PG county jail when he was just a suspect for killing a cop they had all these folks complaining (on the news mind you) about why it was such a big deal and how we should think about the dead cop instead…even though homeboy was killed in custody and hadn’t even gone to any kind of trial yet…not even a bail hearing.
The most important thing I ever learned about the news was this operating principle: If it bleeds it leads.
I watch NBC news at 6 in DC, but only because Jim Vance (Black news anchor) is the shit. He is hilarious, plus he wears an earring.
You are right about people who think that having swallowed everything Cnn offers makes their opinion count.
Believe me the battery on pseudo analysts who are often from the Council on Forein Relations or tax exempt foundation is mindbogling. First of all you exist courtesy of some messed up robber baron who did not know what to do with their money after they had accumulated it.
Secondly you are not required to pay taxes while you are one of the reasons why we are forced to pay taxes. But now I have to trust that you are an expert and know what you are talking about. Anyone who has studied the Political science knows that it is nothing short of waffle.
I have stopped watching television, I only watch it after 12 pm and then I can catch 24 hour news but that is when I need to scream at the CFR rent a quotes.
http://stuffgirlslike.wordpress.com
Is it true that this is the second last post?
I ALMOST TEETEED MYSELF AT THE POTATO STORY.
When SEBPL first started being emailed around, me and one of my girlfriends sat there arguing over email about whether or not CNN should have been included in the list.
Literally THE first thing I put in my list of what SHOULD be included in stuff EBP like was “criticizing the mainstream media”.
My gf said EBP like CNN so much that SEBPL.com “went too damn far when it included CNN”. According to her, “There is no comedy that can be had at CNN’s expense. CNN truly is a wonderful news outlet, full of highly attractive men and women who, while appearing somewhat ethnic, never go too far! The anchors always have just a touch of melanin, a slight ‘ethnic’ eye, or a dab of Creole in the blood. It’s wonderful!! I watch it everyday, and encourage all of you to do the same!!”
I think this sheds further important light on why people like CNN like so much:
-Flashy graphics
-Minimum Negritude
I do not watch CNN, but when I saw the South Carolina clip, I realized my friend’s analysis was completely accurate. Between Soledad and those two other light bright Negroes, CNN really does slide in the diversity without being too visually distracting by detracting from an oasis of pale.
My mother was visiting a couple of weeks ago and she wanted to know which channel was CNN on… I didn’t have a clue.
I have stopped watching CNN like eons ago… The last time I thoroughly checked it out, it was to have a first hand opinion on the beautiful debacle that was “Black In America” …
And if that makes me a brain-dead person, I’ll be that.
Why watch CNN when I can get my news via Jon Stewart?
My brother watch CNN all days and i hate him for that. I watch MSNBC!
Countdown with Keith Olbermann!
And yes, Jim Vance is one cool cat!
CNN is one ‘nigger’ away from being Fox….
Stone-
I just like Jim Vance is not afraid at all to make fun of the ignorant shit that makes it onto the news.
“It’s sad and hilarious when I can honestly say I get better news from The Daily Show and Bill Maher.”
I am right there with you. Yesterday, Maher was on Jay Leno… And I swear that dude is hilarious!
He’s the #1 reason why I do think Karinne Steffans must have some brains to her (and no, I am not referring to her expertise)… Unless he’s the ultimate cliche: smart guy wants to wed dumb sex machine…
Ms. Sula-
To rebuke your argument about Karinne
Shit, CNN IS Fox, but with prettier (and amazingly dumber) people. I quit watching CNN after some dumb blonde moron got a morning show (this wasn’t long after 9/11) and they started spending the whole damned morning talking about Julia Roberts’ horse face. And the website is worse. For months, the homepage had stupid shit, usually with the words “Obama” and “race” (not the political kind, either) in the “headline.” Seriously–not a damned day went by without some “story” about Obama being black and 2520′s not liking it, or him not being black enough, or him being so black no light could escape. Fucking retarded bastards.
Hey* Sidenote…… Me and some of my very close girlfriends are working to put together a book club so we can have something to bring us together every month, and it’s not fuckery.
Any suggestions? We’re looking for good Black authors, and black experience books.
@ Ms. Sula
Bill Maher always talks about thinking marriage is stupid…so actually he just wanted to fuck the sex machine.
@ Ms. Sula
I just wonder what they talked about…if they talked at all.
eww.
All of you women are so lucky that Karrine is retiring, and not only that but she wants to pass the torch onto YOU!

*My favorite quote:”Sometimes life can be so brutal that the only things that make it liveable are our dreams”
Here in Atlanta the local news is like: “This black person did this today. And then, on the Eastside a group of black people were doing this.
So true. I live in Atlanta and I don’t like to listen to local news b/c its mostly depressing news about black people that live entirely too close to me.
I’ve been a news junkie since 9/11. I watch and listen (talk radio) to everything…even Faux News b/c its comical and I like yelling at the radio. However, my favorite news source is The Daily Show.
@Apollo… Okay, I’ll give you that one… Can we blame alcohol?
I truly wanted her to be smart though… Oh well!
@Amadeo… Yeah, actually, that’s more like it. Fuck the sex machine.
@JG… I’ll recommend
1)Rush Home Road by Lori Lansens. But be ready to bawl your eyes out.
2) If you’re into Science fiction (not the Battlestar galactica kind, but the smart kind), I’ll suggest any Octavia Butler but specifically Kindred. Powerful stuff.
Disclaimer to all Battlestar Galactica fans… I am one too. I just needed to make the differentiation.
@JG*:
I loooooove memoirs. One of the more interesting memoirs I have ever read is Destined to Witness by Hans J. Massaquoi.
Massaquoi, a former managing editor of Ebony magazine, chronicles his life as the son of a German nurse and Al-Haj Massaquoi, the son of the Liberian consul general to Germany. Soon after his birth in Hamburg in 1926, the author’s father returned to Liberia to bolster his family’s failing stature in national politics, leaving his wife and son to grapple with everyday life amid the rise of fascism in Germany. …He tells of life after the war, of befriending black American soldiers, of moving to Liberia in 1948 and of his subsequent move to America in 1950, where he came to feel that racism was as prevalent as it had been under the Third Reich…
He also ends up serving for the U.S. in Korea shortly after emigrating.
It’s just an all-around interesting book.
LMFAO @ the analysts watching porn on their laptops. It gives the facial expression ol’ dude in Fig. 3 is making a whole ‘nother meaning. He’s waaay deep in thought!
This is why I go straight to http://www.theonion.com/content/index for my news. The most reliable source out there.
Thanks guys! I wrote them all down to share with my LS’s.
I really appreciate it. I love reading but I don’t like shopping, that includes for books too.
Lol@B4prez… I also check .
At least there, you know that the premise is irrelevant news!
Anyhow, in other non-flashymap news, I freaked the fuck OUT, when Obama just decided to up and show up at the convention last night. Even though CNN “extremely” flashed a “Breaking News: Obama Now in Pepsi Center” on the screen every 10 seconds. He has that effect on me.
Here’s to teasing and pointing @ 2520s who didn’t want this to happen tonight!
JG-
Mixed:My Life in Black & White by Angela Nissel is good and funny, but I don’t know how it would go for a book club.
There are always the old school books too
Black Like Me – prepared to be pissed off at this book

Love the potato story…almost as good as the Virgin Mary appearing on the cheese sandwich. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4034787.stm ]
When you can’t tell the difference between CNN and Fox News…the world ain’t right.

JESUS ON A MOTH!!!
This is why I watch PBS. Frontline, hands down, is the only news program worth watching. It makes Dateline and 20/20 look like, well, CNN. And The News Hour with Jim Lehrer – an old, crusty white guy, some frazzled old white ladies, and Gwen Ifill – straight up news that replaces useless laptops, seizure-inducing graphics, and idiotic sound bites with relevant, intelligent analysis from multiple viewpoints.
I can’t even be bothered with the local news.
I LOOOOOOOVED Assata… especially since I live in NJ. I thought I was crazy for hating the NJ State troopers… after I read that book, I realized that was my internal safety mechanism warning me of their treachery…
“…The sad thing is they spent money on that bullshit and what does it do? NOTHING.” – Vanita
The amount of money they paid for that crap would have probably paid off one of my student loans. Thanks CNN.
I fuck with Larry King (pause) after he did the Bernie Mac special. Any reporter who will dedicate an entire show to B-Mac is cool with me.
“Hits from the Joint” by Tommy Chong was an interesting insight into the drug laws and prison system in the United States.
ditto on the Daily Show and Colbert Report…
cable news tries to hard sometimes to be controversial…
After Michelle’s speech at the DNC they were still criticizing her about not being “patriotic” after she said repeatedly “THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!”… she made a comment about the “world, how it is, isn’t good enough” and some twatwaffle from CNN said “if you replace the word “world” with “country” she’s still saying that she doesn’t like America!”
That’s so ridiculous I can’t even be mad…
TheChad – “After Michelle’s speech at the DNC they were still criticizing her about not being “patriotic” after she said repeatedly “THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!””
These people need to shut the fuck up. I mean, what does she have to do to be deemed patriotic? Drive in a flag-covered truck and marry her cousin?
And speaking of patriotic, did ya’ll see all those black folks in the front row of the convention covered in American flag garb? With Christmas lights and shit?
cnn is generally fuckwittery (the international version that americans sadly have no access to isn’t bad though, featuring christiane amanpour who is a bad bitch and my inspiration) but i have to admit, i do have a crush on anderson cooper. something about the hair and the suits…. le sigh.
I’d visited the CNN studios at the Turner building at Columbia Sq.
There is so many LCD and Plasma Screen TV’s not only on the sets, but EVERYWHERE. desks, bathrooms, etc..
I’m certain there were more screens there than in a SONY warehouse.
It took every ounce of strength in my body to not steal one
I stopped watching CNN a while ago. I also used to watch Fox for a while just to find out what the racists are complaining about, but I realized the Daily Show can take an issue the news networks spend hours beating into the ground and make it concise and funny in a few minutes.
Am I only one of a few people who didn’t mind Black In America? I didn’t learn anything about it, but I didn’t expect to.
The Black List should have been shown to accompany it. Shows like that need to be on network television though.
@ Dekela
now you know if you had stolen one it would have given CNN an excuse to do what they do best… put themselves in the news and then create some graphic detailing hypotheses about how you got the screen out of its fittings and out of the building… they would have LOVED you for that.
I would pay good money to see you sneak out of the CNN building with a tv under your button-up, Dekela.
Hey Dekela!
Cute fb pics E-blush:)
Dekela: You are a way better person than me. I would have gone from skinny to awkwardly pregnant.
Oh yea, Bill Maher is back on tomorrow night. I love his show.
I hope Amy Holmes is back working for Bill so I don’t have to watch CNN to see her!
Where the hell is Edumucated?
Puff-
Amanpour is not a bad bitch, Audrey Pulvar is a badddddd bitch.
@ apollo hahahahahahhaa that is for damn sure, but i really do want to be an international correspondent in the middle east and war zones and shit, which is why amanpour is my hero.
if i can do it looking like audrey pulvar, i’ll be THE baddest bitch, which is my life’s purpose, obviously
@ deleka – thanks for the heads up… i’m gonna apply for a cnn internship now and start dealing plasma tvs on the corner of 125th and lex…. just in case, you know, you want to buy one or anything
“And speaking of patriotic, did ya’ll see all those black folks in the front row of the convention covered in American flag garb? With Christmas lights and shit?
right!!! they were sitting down there waving their flags crying to Melissa Ethridge’s God Bless America and crap. hahaha. I was like GTFOH!! lol. Funniest mess ever.
Nader is at the DNC bout to start some shit, what he does best. Just heard that on MSNBC…
@ InSTL
The Front line on the lead up and execution of the Iraq War was excellent.
Puff-
That shouldn’t be a problem, I think Fox would be more than happy to send a Black woman to a combat zone. That way if you die, its one less Black person for them to deal with, and if you live they can say its because of the violent nature of Black people that you were able to handle yourself in a combat zone. It is a win/win for them.
LMAO at Apollo…ahh the Africanized Killer Black Anchor!
Defiant
I watch BBC news on PBS and listen to CBC radio online. They make U.S. cable news seem like a bunch of children reporting the news.
@ B.B Molasses. – at least i could’ve WATCHED the report in 1080p
@8th wonder – Like Chris, I’m an engineer… I’d already had a plan that was solid
@Jess – im mad i get called out on the blog, though my ego went up 7%
@JG – LOL throw on a empreror waist top and i could see it working
@puff – all you gotta do is get in, and we can get it in!
You think CNN is bad, what about FOX News? Sensationalism at its finest.
@BK24/7
One of my life goals is to be on Bill Maher…I’ll get to speak intelligently and be understood, plus if I feel like it I can call someone a dumb motherfucker.
Sweet.
I want a hot link
I want to be on the O’Reily factor, BUT, he is not allowed to just cut me off. I will destroy his life. Shit, he will probably see this and make a story about it.
brran1
Most (reasonably intelligent) people don’t consider FOX an actual news outlet; FOX is propaganda.
I watch CNN, but can only take it in doses. I usually switch between that and NBC. The Daily Show and Colbert Report was to funny last night.
“After Michelle’s speech at the DNC they were still criticizing her about not being “patriotic” after she said repeatedly “THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!”… she made a comment about the “world, how it is, isn’t good enough” and some twatwaffle from CNN said “if you replace the word “world” with “country” she’s still saying that she doesn’t like America!”” -The Chad
I was yelled ‘you have got to be kidding me!’ at the TV screen and switched the channel when they uttered that BS. wtf. Does she have to ride around in a car that says I love USA, or get a tattoo on her forehead that says that? Damn!
@ apollo – damn, bust my bubble why don’t you… although over my dead body would i ever work for fox = bill o’reilly *bleugh*
Amadeo
Bill Maher likes to date Black women and then abuse them. He dated Superhead and some other chick and abused both of them.
It was funny when James Carville was on tv last night at the DNC – doing his analysis – sitting on the stool, wearing frigging running shoes with big white laces. I realize if you’re behind the anchor desk, that’s the “thing” in News – to be able to wear jeans and sneakers, but when you’re in the open (sitting on a stool), wearing those kicks was laughable — though something I could see myself doing cause I too — am bamafied.
@ Amadeo
I would love to be on his show too, unless he’s planning one of his pro PETA rants. They never show a shot of his shoes. For all of his animal loving, dude better be rocking canvas kicks like Ellen!
Puff-
I would never burst your bubble, what I was saying is they will absolutely send you to combat zones.
On another note, I wonder if I could get Obama to endorse a commercial. I want to make a commercial that starts with the McCain commercials dissing Obama, and then has Obama beating the fuck out of McCain with “Never Scared” playing in the background. Maybe I will just make it and put it on youtube.
“Yea! This nigga think we hoes or somethin’ my nigga… Shit, man what the… lemme talk to the mo’fucca How hard we really mo’fuccin is in this biaaaatch… nah’m sayin?
Fuck nigga… shit man, ole punk ass kids, we out the club nigga… That don’t mean nuthin nigga! I’m gon fuck this nigga up, my nigga! Shit, lemme show this mo’fucca how hard this shit really is!!! So I’m outside of the club and you think im a punk so I go to my loaded tech 9 thats off in the trunk”
Monie: I co-sign, Superhead said that he treated her like his pet, something exotic but inferior…but then again Ms. Steffans can sometimes have the credibility of Wikipedia.com…
as for the anchors not thinking Michelle was patriotic enough…damn, you can love this country and be realistic at the same time-she is from the hood and went to ivy league institutions, OF COURSE she has dealt with racism on a multitude of levels…another reason why us Michelles-raised in the hood, college educated, Black women can relate to her!
The only way for the Obamas to show that they’re not elitist and love this country is for them to announce that they only got into Harvard with affirmative action, and that they still know their place as coloreds. Then they can break out into the electric slide and start showing all of the rednecks at the DNC how blacks ‘dance so good’. Then everyone will feel like he’s just one of those ‘good, clean, decent’ black fellas; not like the rest of ‘em.
Amadeo
re: Frontline’s Bush’s War – so true. In October, they’re showing “The Choice,” in-depth profiles on both Obama and McCain. That should be required viewing for every voter, but instead the rubes in this country repeatedly tune to CNN, Fox, and MSNBC (which is just as bad as CNN IMHO) for the drivel they pass off as “news.” This is one of the many reasons why the Repubs want to dismantle PBS — b/c they do actual investigative reporting, not fluff.
Apollo… I both hate and love you at the same time for that.
The amazing thing about the attacks on Michelle is how they ignore the factthat Cindy McCain is a theif and a drug addict.
That heffer stole from a charity! She used the charity to get drugs! And the media says nothing about it.
Can you even imagine what would be happening if Michelle had done that. Obama would have never made it through the primaries.
I leave for a few days to actually do work, and everyone just keeps talking without me. What kind of shit is that. Fuck Hillary, fuck CNN, fuck Fox, I think I am caught up now, no?
Edumucated:… Welp.. that about sums it up!
Morning SBPH …
For the book club: Things Fall Apart by Achebe (sp) …good reading…
I swear in regards to the Michelle not being patriotic enough…she is the anti Hillary image…hell the anti First Lady image period…
NEVER in history have we had a F.L. look that good and that sharp (Jackie O would be a close 2nd…she started it but still aint got shit on Michelle) and they cannot take it…y’all know the ultimate goal in Becky’s life is to look like us with the tans and the lip injections and the ass implants and for them to have the exact model of what they want to be as the F.L. of this country is fucking their minds UP.
They’ve always had a love hate relationship with black women and that shit is starting to show it’s true color with this election and that is why they are attacking Michelle…IMO…because they could suck a mile of Barack’s dick…or eat a mile of his shit…whichever works for them
My reason for watching CNN is TJ Holmes. He could get it anytime, any place. Everyone else on that station is irrelevant. Besides I prefer BCC news.
Why, why, why won’t Donna Brazille do something with her hair?!?! I think she’d look great natural.
@ apollo – lol i ain’t mad, you made a valid point.
Anyone who says they get better news or their news from The Daily Show or Bill Maher is a lying lying liar. Those shows have snippets of bits random news that may or may not be particularly important and not only that but they only “report” for about 10 minutes.
I loves me some Daily Show but i take it for what it is: comedy.
Has anyone noticed that anytime someone of color speaks at the DNC, they pan the cameras around looking for people of color. Even when the Rep was speaking about Isreal (which I do not support) they made sure to show all the Jews. When the Black congresswomen were speaking, Black people, when the California Rep was speaking Spanish, well, they tried to find some Latinos, but just settled on 2520s.
And TJ Holmes could get it anytime, anywhere. That guy is so deliciously sexy.
I hate CNN because they give time to PUMA. Any news network that features that shitstorm of idiocy needs to be taken off the air.
“Anyone who says they get better news or their news from The Daily Show or Bill Maher is a lying lying liar. Those shows have snippets of bits random news that may or may not be particularly important and not only that but they only “report” for about 10 minutes.
I loves me some Daily Show but i take it for what it is: comedy.”
How is this any different from Fox? I love watching Fox news, you never know what they are going to say next. I am all about the Edge. But for real news I watch ABC or the sexy French chick.
“right!!! they were sitting down there waving their flags crying to Melissa Ethridge’s God Bless America and crap. hahaha. I was like GTFOH!! lol. Funniest mess ever. ”
YES! That was highlight of the convention for me. Especially those fools who would mouth the words to some other song while she was singing. It looked like Japanese dubbing. Those people were NOT singing the song she was singing. But they were passionate. Loved every second of it.
@ Monie
I heard that about Superhead…but someone who allowed herself to be called Superhead and who has gained fame for the reason she did…needs more people. I didn’t hear about any other girl.
Plus Superhead was going on about how he was the best guy she had ever been with in any way before that. I don’t really have an opinon as to if he did or did not, but she wouldn’t be a character witness for anyone.
Oooh oooh! Co-sign on the TJ Holmes love/lust. Rowr.
And oddly enough, also co-sign on the Anderson Cooper love. There’s something about that crisp white ass hair and I LOVE the “stoneface”. I’m dead…
Also, did anyone hear about the 2520 teacher in MoCo who was selling cocaine to her students. It made me so happy that the nice upper/middle class 2520 neighborhood was on the news for this teacher selling drugs to her kids. Although this was followed by a report about the DEA seizing over $125,000 in drug busts in Trinidad neighborhood.
Not coke to students! SMH. I’m so tired of hearing about Trinidad. That neighborhood has been a mess for YEARS, buuuuuuuuuuuuut thanks to gentrificatin the city wants to crackdown over there. Shit when I was younger I was scared as hell to walk thru there.
Fucking 2520s I swear!
TJ Holmes just doesn’t do it for me. I mean he’s okay looking and all but …maybe it’s because he’s so skinny….(scratches head)
@Amadeo
Yeah Superhead is a mess but she’s still human. But really my point was that apparently this (abusive behavior toward Black women) may be a pattern for Bill Maher and therefore I have a tough time watching him.
@ TomatoHead
I gotta disagree…You remember the story about the millions in cash that went missing in Iraq? That shit got almost no coverage. I first saw it on the Daily Show and they revisited when the did a list of things that went wrong with Iraq. It took me some time on the internet searching the next day to find a story about it. Mind you, it wasn’t a computer error…it was pallets of shrink wrapped American dollars in the millions missing.
A while back there was a news report of a Fraternity in Cali somewhere that was part of a massive drug ring. They were busted with a crazy amount of cash, drugs, and weapons. In the Frat house. I remember reading it thinking “please don’t be the Kappa’s, PLEASE DON’T BE THE KAPPAS!” LOL.. It was a white frat. I was relieved, but it bothered me that it got NO play. Only because if it WAS a BGLO, it would have been a rap. We would have all been on moratorium, labeled as thugs (which.. can be true) and killers, and all part of a massive drug ring. Michelle’s membership in AKA would mean that she’s a drug whore and Obama is her pimp.
And Anderson Cooper… again.. I usually like to think of the stone face as an intense stare… Looking deep into the depths of you. Mmm
@ TomatoHead
I’m not lying. I get most of my news from the newspaper and online. For in depth reporting, I’ll start with Frontline, then perhaps Dateline, 20/20 and the rest.
I do not look to the news networks for my news since they just have a bunch of talking heads stating their own opinions with little background to back them up. You can say the same about the Daily Show and Bill Maher perhaps, but at least these shows reveal the hypocrisy from BOTH sides.
JG-
I remember that story thinking the same thing. Did you hear about the Latino frat at Cornell as well? I guess since they weren’t NPHC no one cared. But had it been any of us, it would be a wrap.
http://cornellsun.com/node/22225
BK24/7
I thought Dateline only did reports on pedophiles?
And speaking of NBC; I feel so bad for Hoda Kotb, she was a good journalist and now she’s doing the Today Show? WTF.
Edumucated: When I was in college, there was a lot of heat due to a situation with a Frat at a neighboring school. However, on our campus a White Frat got into a lot of trouble for hazing, it was small news, but it caused them to put the fire even closer to US! We were all subpoenaed and had to sign affidavits. I don’t know if the white sororities had to but I feel like if they did it would have been a big deal. “Like OMG! What did we do!?”
I think I saw an article about Master P’s new Black News Channel. I think someone may have mentioned it on here too.
One can only imagine.
Just for you chris.
http://www.progressiverags.com/yeswecan2.html
even creoles support obama
@ Monie
Yeah if he did it it’s messed up…but (as fucked up as it is) I just can’t take Steffans word for….anything.
@ JG
I liked Two Thousand Seasons by Ayi Kwei Armah
I used to be a broadcast journalism major but thank God I came to my senses and got out of that, because if I were an anchor, I’d make fun of the news all day and probably get fired for chewing out the news director over the bullshit that passes for news.
Atlanta’s local news SUCKS FUCKING DONKEY BALLS!!!!!!!1111!!!
To be the 8th largest TV market in the country, the ‘product’ is extremely ameteur and stupid. And most of the coverage is about what stupid shit black folks did so the white suburbanites can feel better about themselves.
Why does channel 2 have so many live shots over shit that happened hours ago? Why does Monica Pearson change her hair more than Madonna? Why does Jacquitta Williams stumble over the teleprompter so gotdamn much? Why doesn’t Jovita Moore marry me? I need answers people!
Why does Fox 5 just suck?
Why does CBS 46 exist? I’ve been seing billboards all over the city for their new weather bimbo, Dagmar Midcap. *yawn*
I can merely tolerate 11 Alive.
JG, you never have to sign an affadavit if you dont want to.
Edumucated, you are never allowed to disappear again without direct orders from me.
@ JG, I am really interested to see what kind of programming Master P is going to have. I mean, this is Mr. Ice Cream Man we’re talking about here.
I mean, this is Mr. Ice Cream Man we’re talking about here.
Dammit 8th, you took me back to 9th grade with that!
Yes, I know yall remember No Limit back in the day!
Holla if ya hear me!
I wonder if I could get Obama to endorse a commercial. I want to make a commercial that starts with the McCain commercials dissing Obama, and then has Obama beating the fuck out of McCain with “Never Scared” playing in the background. Maybe I will just make it and put it on youtube.
bwhahaha!!!
Rev: You sound like Jadakis right now. LOL And I was at a Hip Hop Panel in which Jovita Moorewas a moderator. My friend made a comment about the Beyoncification of women today and she FLIPPED OUT. It was pure comedy Gold.
And Dagmar Midcap’s name makes me laugh….. every.single.time.
Esquire, I sure wish I would have known that then. Hey are you on FB? I have a question about pro bono work.
Aw man, why yall keep doggin him out. (Master P)
The description of his programming seemed legit. He is the ice cream man, but he also is Mr. Nickelodean (sp), and dancing with stars dude. He also wrote a book, which is not THAT bad.
We are allowed to grow. I think his network might be okay. It will be better than Buffon Entertainment Television.
Did anyone see the anchor last nite compare Clinton vs. Obama to Tupac vs. Biggie.
…my people
8th:
How did I become your bitch? I know I am having your kid, but damn, treat me with some respect. lol
Master P was the Ice Cream Man, but everything I have heard from him very recently has been pretty positive. I don’t want to discredit him because he made some mistakes in his past.
Make ‘em say unnnnnghhhhh
Anyone remember “I’m Bout It” by Master P and them? That was a fucking hood bootleg assed masterpiece ya’ll.
It was better than Cash Money’s “Baller Blockin” *shudders at remembering trying to decipher whatever the fuck Juvenile was talking about*
Buffon = buffoon
8th. I’m pretty interested in it as well. He’s changed up his style a lot so here’s to hoping that it’s worth something. But according to BET black people don’t want to watch the news.
My friend made a comment about the Beyoncification of women today and she FLIPPED OUT. It was pure comedy Gold.
Must’ve struck a nerve with her. I’m pretty sure she gets that a lot. But it’s not like she’s ethnically ambiguous. *sigh*
JG, I am not on Facebook, but am considering joining. Im debating. I might be too old.
@ Ed
“Edumucated, you are never allowed to disappear again without direct orders from me.” Translates to, “Edumucated, I really missed you while you were gone, there was no one here to make me a sammich.”
better?
I refuse to watch BET’s coverage of the DNC, but I heard that Cousin Jeff (see, I forgot his last name) tried to put Bob Johnson on blast for talking shit about Obama, and Bob tried to deny it.
As they say on fark.com… it’s not news, it’s CNN.
“I wonder if I could get Obama to endorse a commercial. I want to make a commercial that starts with the McCain commercials dissing Obama, and then has Obama beating the fuck out of McCain with “Never Scared” playing in the background. Maybe I will just make it and put it on youtube.”
AHAHAHAHA! I’m Cheekie, and I approve this message. Make this happen!
I do believe that Master P genuinely has changed up his style and wants to positively influence his people. Its the execution that I’m a bit concerned about.
And YES @ Rev! I watched I’m Bout It like a million times…what about Da Last Don? LOL aww, those were the days.
Please someone link whoever that “newscaster” on BET’s Clip. I cant get to You Tube from work. I saw it on Jimmy Kimmel last night.
Actually Master P is kind of a genius in my book.
That negro could market the HELL out of an artist. And since all of them were pretty damn terrible, he is truly a mastermind. I know guys that would look on the inside of a cover and buy that artist’s album JUST CAUSE he was on No Limit.
BET is covering the convention? You would think they would use this election to jump start some serious news coverage. This was an opportunity tailor made for BET and I bet they won’t take advantage.
8th:
That was much better, thank you. I actually had to do some work for a little while. I wish I could talk about what I do here at work, because some of it is just crazy.
Can we do Mr. Miller a favor and stop calling him Master P in hopes of boosting his respect? P. Miller is out of the question too, considering how distasteful his clothing and shoes were. Mr. Miller or Percy for his friends.
I have met Cousin Jeff a number of times and he is a great man, I have nothing bad to say about him. Bob Johnson is also not a bad person outside of BET, but I do regret not slapping him when I saw him last.
Rev.: That may have been it. He made a pretty decent point. It was because the people on the Panel (people like Kurtis Blow and others) were getting BLASTED for Rap music. Most of them were around back when Rap was far more positive. And there were female rap artists up there too. So he was talking about the Beyonce *I’m so sexy, I’m half naked on stage and I’m so independent that I don’t need black men so ugh take that!* (Which he was making the point that there are beautiful black women like Jill Scott who are independent but can make a song like “I Need You” to unite black men and women) And Jovita was like “we don’t need men! What’s wrong with being a strong woman!?” He was like… ‘You’re missing my point.” Afterwards he tried to make nice, and she was basically like “you hate women, because you don’t like beyonce”
“BET gets political
BET is kicking off a weekly news program Friday described as a cross between “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” and “Real Time with Bill Maher,” except from a African-American perspective.
Called “The Truth with Jeff Johnson,” the news show will air 11 p.m. and stars a BET personality who has also been an activist for the NAACP and People for the American Way.
The debut is timed to the Democratic National Convention. BET, the most-watched network in African-American homes, will also show Barack Obama accepting the Democratic presidential nomination on Aug. 28, in a live broadcast. Competitor TV One will be doing the same.
Neither network plans to air John McCain’s acceptance speech at the Republican convention. Shocker! ”
BET is the most watched TV network in African-American homes? WTF Of course this came from a Detroit News Website…what did I expect.
BET is covering the convention? You would think they would use this election to jump start some serious news coverage.
SHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT…
Deborah Leevil is too busy sucking Bob Johnson’s dick to even consider the thought. I’m going to DC this weekend, I ought to find her house and protest out in front of it on general principle. Yeah, I know it hasn’t worked so far, but fuck it!
Mr. Miller it is. Because I agree, he has definitely made the point that he’s grown as a man and as a father. Look at his son! He’s doing great!
Ed:
I’m happy we’ve made up. What’s the ETA on that sammich?
And I cannot call him Percy. Just cannot.
Anyone remember this?
I still can’t fathom how this
wasn’tisn’t still a bigger story and how I managed to see it on The Daily Show first.I wonder if Master P will hire Pen & Pixel to design his screen graphics? Picture it….shiny bling-bling logos, poorly executed delusions of grandeur?
I like Jeff Johnson too, but he is seriously on the wrong ass network.
I for one think Mr. Bout it Bout it will come correct with the programming. I mean the nigger market is already oversaturated so there is very little to gain.
The fed up and educted negro market however has a lacking, and are willing to try new things.
You must balance the Yin (niggers) and the Yang (coloreds)
Esquire:
I agree, Mr. Miller had a business sense that I don’t think any other rapper/producer ever had. He made his entire family rich from No Limit and continues to do so. He was one of the first rappers to have a clothing line, shoe line and he owns an ABA basketball team. When No Limit was failing he took all the money out of the label and put it into his bball team. He then proceeded to file bankruptcy for No Limit and got rid of all the debt for the label. The final step of his genius was to start a new record label called The New No Limit, buying all of the No Limit stuff that had been given up in the bankruptcy for dirt cheap. Mr. Miller made money off a dead record label. Genius.
I will be watching the Republican National Convention just as hard because I want to know what the hell they are up to! Plus.. I want to see Big Daddy McCain saunter around and come up with goofy one-liners.
“Bob Johnson is also not a bad person outside of BET, ”
I almost got mad considering his coonery of the election season. aka puff puff give obama imitations and then calling Maj. Whip Clyburn and demanding he push for Clinton as the VP.
Then I saw this:
“but I do regret not slapping him when I saw him last.”
You are all right with me Edumacated
LMAO I forgot all about Pen & Pixel! Man, when No Limit stopped selling I bet they went broke.
I guess its hard for me because I remember watching Cribs, and Master P has 24 K gold CEILINGS.
CEILINGS, people.
I remember wondering how many people in his ward he could have fed with those ceilings.
OT: Why did “Groove Is In the Heart” by Deee-Lite just pop up on my internet radio and it bought a smile to my face? I fucking loved that song and video when I was a kid.
Rev Leon Lonnie Luv
Has he stopped calling himself cousin Jeff? Lol
Thanks Esquire, I didn’t know they had something planned.
Even though I don’t like McCain, they should cover his acceptance speech. There are black republicans too.
I hate how BET has a million and 1 hosts on video shows, but only Jeff Johnson for ‘real’ stories.
8th:
What kind of sammich do you want mamita?
That is true BK24/7
And blacks should remember that. I dont agree with it, but we are all given the right to choose. That is what we should do. I embrace Black Republicans.
Its black mormons I cant stand.
Damn.. what I gotta do to get a sandwhich?
I remember that Cribs episode with Master P. They were living in Country Club of Louisiana and the camera caught some 2520′s playing golf and just staring at Master P and his crew in disbelief. Hilarious.
I also remember when Lil Romeo was on there and showed “his” house and he “had” a car that he was too young to drive in…smh.
Anyone else hear about Stephon Marbury buying a private jet? He doesn’t have Michael Jordan/Shaq/Kobe money, so what in Negroidian Expenditures Hell was that?
I’m doing an experiment. I need a Facebook Boo.. Any takers? LOL
Rev, maybe Marbury has invested his money well. ???
I hope.
Negroidian Expenditures Hell!?!?
Rev… when we do finally meet up for lunch. You are getting a hug for that.
*sheds a baby tear*
But I remember that episode. But now Lil Romeo, is going to college on a Basketball SCHOLARSHIP to a good school. I mean damn. I’m very proud of that family.
I wonder if Snoop will be able to pull it off.
Rev, I love you for “Negroidian Expenditures Hell”.
@ JG: apparently you gotta knock somebody up.
@ Ed: Don’t start with that Spanish, I get all giggly and blushy. And Turkey is fine.
Esquire:
Bob Johnson outside of the spotlight is completely different than Bob Johnson in the spotlight. He is not overbearing and very intellectual. He is really someone who you would be happy to sit down with and discuss politics or anything else and feel like you would leave the argument having gained something. This is why he confuses me to no end.
Master P got NO PLAY once he went positive. I remember him trying to say that exact thing on one of those “Hip Hop is ruining the world Panels” and the worst part about it was…they actually cut him off mid sentence and went straight to commercial…I was like damn this shit ain’t even live.
JG: Just friend some random 2520 and start a relationship with him. The more 2520 the better.
Amadeo: I saw that Hip Hop Panel on TV. I felt like Maste—Mr. Miller was making some strong points, but they were not trying to hear it. He was even talking about his growing process, no dice.
8th:
You sure you want turkey? It will make you tired at work. I did have a turkey sandwich yesterday though with muenster and it was delicious. I need to figure out where I am going to go for lunch today because I definitely forgot to make anything before work.
Yeah, Lil Romeo has done good, and he doesn’t seem to be full of bitchassness like Bow Wow is, so he’s alright by me.
I know Stephon markets his shoes at Steve and Barry’s instead of charging an arm and a leg for them, so he’s okay in my book. Maybe he has invested wisely and can afford a jet plane. Ain’t my business. You hear so many stories about NBA players going flat broke within 5 years of leaving the league, so when I hear about folks making these types of purchases, I just hope they’re doing the right thing.
JG and Amadeo:
I can’t believe I am about to say this, but 50 Cent made a valid point about Mr. Miller as well. Curtis basically said that Master P would not be trying to get political and clean and try and change hip-hop if he was still relevant. Curtis accused Mr. Miller of just using all of this as a gimmick to get his name back in peoples mouths because he is running out of money. How true that is, I don’t know, but I really hope it is not.
Work makes me tired at work.
Sigh
@Rev –
Marbury IS paid. His salary for this upcoming season alone (his last), with the Knicks is $21million. SMH@ him gettin’ paid like that when the Knicks aren’t even worth $21.
I have a lot of respect for Stephon Marbury after reading the book The Last Shot by Darcy Frey. Marbury isn’t one of the main characters, but he is referenced in the book because he was in 8th grade at the time. The book chronicles a number of players from Lincoln in Coney Island. Very good read.
Oh, and Amazing Grace by Kozol is another great book.
@ed- on the “new no limit” do his artists still put out stuff like freak hoes, weed and money, still smokin, etc or do they have a more positive message? I think that would be the answer there…
@ Ed:
hmmm, I never thought about it that way. You must keep in mind that Curtis is a hater and has always been a crab in the barrell, however he gives you something to think about. Percy (ugh) has always been a businessman, so mayhaps this is just a money move?
Edumucated:… hmmmm. Perhaps. That could be true. But at the same time, if it does work, and his Channel isn’t full of fuckery, and it some how changes Hip Hop, even just a smidge, I’ll still say Bravo.
Marbury IS paid. His salary for this upcoming season alone (his last), with the Knicks is $21million. SMH@ him gettin’ paid like that when the Knicks aren’t even worth $21.
LOL. Well, maybe he’s one of those folks that doesn’t like to show off that he has money.
My mom always says that when she wins the lottery, she is going into hiding.
8th:
What do I want for lunch? I was thinking of going to Chinatown, but I don’t think I will come back.
Edumacated:
Bob Johnson can kiss my ass. I dont care how “nice” and intelligent” he seems “off camera”. I would never want to discuss politics or even what color Im painting my nails with that coonerific, coontastic, coon.
That annoys me even more. I have nothing to gain from someone who has nothing to gain from me. If he was so wise and intelligent, why would he not want to bestow some of that knowledge on your people? Why would you argue so hard (business decision or not) against putting any show on a network named black entertainment tv. why would you make sure your children are educated while pumping images of black hoochie women, and gang bangers around the world? Why would he be such an ass during the primaries?
I loath bobbie for waaay more than BET.
Bob Johnson..sit. the. fuck. down. go. away. give. my. people. free.
LMAO @ B4Prez~SMH@ him gettin’ paid like that when the Knicks aren’t even worth $21.
Didn’t Lil Romeo give his or try to give his scholarship back to the school he’s attending? Also, didn’t he try to start a scholarship fund because of that?
And @ Edumacated: that makes sense to a point…because if Mr. Miller is successful with this station and sticks to the programming…50s videos WILL NOT be played…so he might be hating…and Miller is in real estate or something…he had money before he went into the business right?
@ Ed
I can’t give that validity…this is America we ignore people when they actually:
1)make sense
2)change for the better
3)do positive things
Another point:
1)Fuck 50
2)Percy can compete with him moneywise and may have more
3)Percy could sell suck ass artists and 50….where is G-unit?
4)Fuck 50
50 is a hater. but dang that body is banging
@Yoruba-
his uncle or someone died and left him like 10,000 which he in turn invested into No Limit…something like that
Yoruba: That would make me happy to know. Just because I’m sure there are plenty other kids who could have used that money. But still. Bravo to them.
@ Ed, I had Chinese for lunch, it was superb, so that could be a good look for you. You HAVE to go back to work, though. Make that money, honey.
Stephon’s plane is 45 mil. Even if he makes 21 mil a year, Diddy is making WAY more, and he’s not using his damn jet anymore.
the hell he need a jet for anyway? I don’t approve.
@JG: I am aiming for next Saturday for lunch. Possibly somewhere downtown. There are restaurants popping up everywhere down there. I was curious about Luckie over there by the Aquarium.
@Yoruba: Master P has always been an astute businessman. He started a record store from some medical malpractice settlement money (from the death of his grandfather) that he received and he started No Limit from that store.
*in the voice of The Game*
“CCCUUURRRRRRRTTTTIIIIIIIIISS”
I agree that 50 says things to insight hate and start problems but the point is still valid. If the Ice Cream Man was still selling albums out of the ass and making people say unnnngh, would he care about changing the portrayal of hip-hop and the black community, or would he just still be “Da Last Don” teaching kids how to mix Arm & Hammer and coke on a track?
REV: Luckie will be closed soon. Bet on it. Ummm there are plenty of hot spots. Fuego where I spent my birthday *see pics via FB* is one of my favs. Great specials, and yummy food. The choices are unlimited.
JG & Rev, yall should go have Tapas at Loca Luna….God, I miss that place.
Will there be an entry on NPR?
8th:
That is what sucks about not being a 2520. If I wasn’t dark skinneded I think I could take an entire week off without anyone noticing, but if I am gone for 2 hours every Becky in the office wants to know where the darkie is.
Well Ed thats probably because they want some chocolate for desert.
Hey chinatown in what city?? Cuz if ur talkin about DC, its chinablock. But Ill meet u, Im hungry. (actually I just got finished lookin @ those feet pic on f and I think Im gonna hurl)
This whole conversation makes me feel better about the fact that whenever possible I actively avoid watching the news. CNN, Fox News (and Fox in general for that matter), and MSNBC are basically tools of Satan to promote idiocy and jackassery (my new favourite word) and kill brain cells.
*facebook.
JG: Keep your hands off Dekela! I just claimed him my E-boo! um…edumacated, I go to get some air and i come back and find that you are making sammiches for another blogger…I’m hurt…
Whoever said that comment about wondering how many people in Miller’s ward he could have fed with his obnoxious ass gold ceilings (don’t forget about the REAL diamonds and jewels in his rims)…I can only think of the end of Schindler’s list when Oscar broke down, about how many more jews he could have saved with his watch and car….damn, one of the most heart-wrenching scenes ever!
I used to be die hard for Loca Luna… until I found Fuego.
FUCK ALL OF MY CO-WORKERS WHO MAY BE READING THIS!!!
PUNKING AN INTERN IS NOT FUNNY SHIT!!!!!!!
Especially when it involves legal proceedings…..
sorry, had to get that off of my chest
I actually supported Bob Johnson’s selling of BET. From $20,000 to $2 billion?
Bob is a businessman, not an activist. He had a vision and made shitloads of money for having poor production values and non-stop videos. We the people want BET to be a beacon of hope for our community and he wanted to make dough. We put OUR expectation on the network and wanted him to follow suit. He was just running a business.
I stopped messing with Bob when he went off the deep end dissing Barack though.
Edu:
2520s at my office wear golf shorts and tshirts on Friday. Jesus, we work at a LAW office, not the tennis club.
Me and the other black attorney could never walk up in here in a wife beater and some tims
OMG Dekela! What happened?
Vanita:
I was talking about Chinablock, but I am not convinced that is where I will be going yet. I am supposed to be meeting up with one of my boys for lunch, but I have no idea where.
“Bob is a businessman, not an activist. He had a vision and made shitloads of money for having poor production values and non-stop videos. We the people want BET to be a beacon of hope for our community and he wanted to make dough. We put OUR expectation on the network and wanted him to follow suit. He was just running a business.”
BK, I totally agree and respect that 100%. It was just a television network. While I definitely feel Bob should have felt OBLIGATED to do better and show better to his people, in the end, that’s not really his responsibility. Only we can raise our children.
Dekela: Whoa….Everything good?
BK24/7. I hear that argument a lot. That’s well and good. He has no social conscience. He doesn’t have to, he’s a businessman. Fine. I am still open to hate him for it.
@8th – Diddy is making more, and shelling out more because he thinks it’s smart to have 12 kids by 14 baby mamas and pay each one $20,000 a pop per month. Not to mention he likes to hire ppl to do everything for him, like he didn’t grow up around the way.
——————————
50 has a valid point on P. Miller using positivity to gain press, but isn’t it about the destination, and not the route u took to reach it?
——————————–
I think it’s great that ppl are finally realizing that 50 and his shenanigans aren’t selling anymore. Maybe in about 10 yrs we’ll get to see everyday black men in the media.
@ ED
That is a point…but 50 isn’t doing anything positive so it’s like a liar telling the truth. Even if it’s true it’s looked at as suspect coming from him. I do doubt it though. If he was just doing one thing maybe, but he’s flipped alot of things around and he’s not (I don’t think) making as much money or getting as much exposure from the positive as he did the bullshit.
BK24/7
let me tell you why I agree and disagree with you.
That same, I am a businessman logic can be used by a mothafucking crack dealer. beleive it or not, but plenty of our children watch that mess and truly believe this is all they can be hoes, hustlas, and ball players.
Like T.I said…”Im just doing my job….” Why is that okay. Even my evil law firm tries to do some community service/ street law classes, etc…
I dont need BET to be our saviour, but is that the true definition of BLACK entertainment. If you travel outside this country, this is what people THINK of us and treat us like this accordingly. Its called RESPONSIBLE PROGRAMMING.
This is why people are so mad with BET.
Esquire:
I am completely with you on that. At my Law Firm these bamas will come in looking like the golf game is more important than representing a client well. There are two other Black people in the entire office, and one of them is the office manager. 2520s can relate to each other about their tennis matches. As soon as it comes time to play on the flag football team in the fall, however, I am the first one they ask.
Jess:
She asked. Its only E-boo love though, my girl would end me if I was up to no good. lol Besides my daughter is too cute to be messing around.
Edumucated: Where do you work?!?! What secret law firm is there around chinablock?
I know for a personal fact that Diddy’s personal assistants make very little. Very Very Little. Like… $35k in NYC. So he sucks when it comes to paying staff, but them kids are paid!
(BTW… I like Diddy… *waits for stones*)
The problem I have with BET is not that it isn’t a “a beacon of hope for our community”. It’s that its called Black Entertainment Television. If it was called Bob’s TV or Debra’s TV then fine but calling it Black entertainment makes it seem as though BET has the endorsment of the Black community as a whole.
But Bob Johnson is still the devil.
Keep in mind, there are a lot of parentless young blacks and parents who work at night or just truly cant monitor those images.
All Im saying is that there is truth to one believing what they see it is is shown over and over and over….For blacks who DONT see a personal black role model, it is not a good look. Should we (blacks) base our goals on these things..hell no…does it happen…hell yes.
Indeed* My real boo would be pretty pissed at life!
Vanita:
I definitely do not work near Chinablock, but I was thinking about driving over there quickly if that is where my boy wanted to go.
@ B4Prez, you’re right. Never thought about that, but it puts in all in perspective. Who knows how much more money Diddy would have if he’d just zip it up and hold his own umbrella.
@ Ed: Please let JessAKA know that we’re expecting.
@ Esquire: At what point do we stop blaming other people and start actively blaming the parents for these children? Why is a TELEVISION network raising a child? Bob can only be held accountable for so much. Ugh, I really sound like I’m on his side, and I’m not, I promise.
@ JG* – rolling boulders at you for the Diddy comment
but yo, $35 g’s might help me pay some bills when i graduate, i mean vibe (where i kinda want to work) probably pay less…. why the fuck do i want to be a journalist? i should go work for a hedge fund and shit, or PWC – sell my soul for six figures
@ JG*
Hate to do it…but you must be bludgeoned with big fucking rocks.
Someone please explain to me why the hell is CNN on at every damn airport in this country?
“For blacks who DONT see a personal black role model, it is not a good look. Should we (blacks) base our goals on these things..hell no…does it happen…hell yes.”
Good point, Esquire.
@JG – Did u feel those 17 stones I just hit u with? How can any1like Diddy anymore? He’s such a disappointment.
Bob Johnson is NOT the devil…he’s just the Devil’s (The White Man) Advocate…he’s a sambo, an overseer…he is analogous to the Africans that sold our ancestors to the slave trade…
What are we talking about now black people?
Well those who friended me on fb know where I work..
My ENTIRE Department played a trick on me involving Senior Program Managers, Project Managers, and best of all, the freaking Inspector General!!
I had done some things which violated procedures (truthfully) and basically they created a false report of my doings and scheduled a meeting to discuss it.
They had me sweating for 3 Hours before the meeting and then a 30 min interrogation which ended with the guy congratulating me on getting my balls busted and everybody walking in and laughing…
I literally said “Oh Fuck all of ya’ll!” and walked out….
bastards….
I just had one pint of chocolate milk….My poor co-workers!!
Diddy can definitely afford to pay better than 35k. His assistant doesn’t even have running water in his apartment.
I can’t help it guys. I am entertained by him!!! *take that take that*!!! Ahhh I can’t help it! I don’t watch the shows tho. I just can’t. All that mess, the Baldwin Hills, College Hill, MTB4 mess. It’s not that much of a guilty pleasure! LOL
Esquire:
I understand where you are coming from, but Bob Johnson and Debra L’Evil (Boondocks) are not the only ones at fault. Just like everyone else, they are trying to make money off the people willing to spend it. Magic Johnson theaters are not put into the hood so he can give back to the hood. Magic Johnson Theaters are in the hood because Magic figures “niggas like spending money.” I think it is a shame that strong Black businessmen and women choose to take advantage of the Black community but it is reality. As far as the images on BET, it is Black Entertainment Television, not Black News Network, or Black Cartoon Network. The things on BET are shown solely for entertainment purposes. Do I like BET, not in the least, but I understand it. What I don’t agree with is that had Bob Johnson really thought about it he could have expanded the Johnson brand (like Turner) and created multiple stations. We could have had a BNN, BCN, and BET. Someday.
Dekla
Where in the Candid Camera hell do you work?
no I get what you are saying 8th.
I blame the parents, fathers AND the mothers. That being said….this programming is a factor. It this is unique to our culture because there is not a channel called “White entertainment television” that shows negative images of whites FOR whites. Yea, there is plenty of white trash on tv…but is not NAMED that…making it seem to the rest of the world OR those with little to no exposure to Blacks, that this is WHO we are…WHAT we like…etc.
While being a lazy parent, or being a just a bad ass child is the most dominant factor…this channel CERTAINLY doesnt help situations. Its enraging because it was formulated, derived BY us…FOR us… Come on now.
The media is most certainly a factor in a lot of people’s lives. This is one of the few networks that just SHOWS US on a normal basis. Is it ironic that the one network is full of coonery and buffoonery? Name it Black music entertaiment network…or something.
@ Puff
35k sucked for me in Baltimore…I can’t imagine making that much in NYC!
LMAO @ Né…
LMAO @ Dekela….. “Fuck all y’all!”
I fucks with you Esquire. You are absolutely right.
@ amadeo –
i just translated that into pounds and that is fucking chicken change… le sigh. i should move to dubai, get paid in gold bars and sand and shit.
Esquire:
White Entertainment Television is called MTV.
When my baby girl is a little older, I will have to figure out what type of programming she can watch that will help her have a positive image or herself especially since she is multicultural (Afro-Cuban and Italian/Brazilian) but for now she likes Dora the Explorer so I am ok. lol By the way, she has the posibility of being quadlingual, how cool is that.
@Puff – Jobs in the magazine world are virtually non-existent these days. Blogs are taking all of the money away from print media. And Vibe is known to be 1 big mess when it comes to employment there… Otherwise, life is too short to be a hedge fund manager if you don’t wanna wake up and go do that 10 yrs from now. Pick what you’re gonna enjoy doing. Ppl miserable at work become miserable everywhere.
@ JG & Esquire..
You can hate him for his actions, go ahead.
I really wouldn’t compare running BET vs. selling drugs. One of them is illegal after all.
Though I am somewhat concerned about what others outside our country think of us, a big part of me wants to say who gives a fuck what they think?
I guess I just want freedom. Freedom to be funny, to be serious, to be a buffoon or an inspiration. Freedom to be smart and stupid. Freedom to have serious programming aimed at us and have stupid images of us on the TV as well.
I don’t expect Black Entertainment Television to give me responsible programming either. That’s not entertainment!
Simply put: my real disgust is
the NAME of the network.
the REPRESENTATION of the network
Entertainment is not indicitive of RAP videos and knock off MTV shows. It should be named Black YOUTH entertainment..or something else.
Like I said, if you go anywhere else, people think this is US. oh…and Micheal Jordan. Thank God they see Obama.
@ 8th wonder – a place I wont be working at in the fall…..
And thank you everyone for the stoning. I now know the error of my ways! LOL
And 35k in ATL isn’t bad if you have your life together. But anywhere else…. I can’t imagine.
while pelting rocks at JG* can we aim some at Diddy himself in hopes of knocking out some of his big ass teeth so his damn mouth can close…
Esquire:
“Simply put: my real disgust is
the NAME of the network.
the REPRESENTATION of the network”
I agree with you, but I know grown women who watch BET and nothing else. The woman who owns the house next to me is a grandmother and she still goes clubbing. Hood Entertainment Television?
Esquire: Co-sign like a mofo. My point exactly. Even tho MTV is basically white entertainment television, it isn’t titled that way therefore it doesn’t lend to the same exclusion.
@ b4prez – thank you, i appreciate the info…. i guess i’m going to just have to bust my ass or leave the USA if i want to stick with writing/journalism. i still got 2 years of college anyway so i have a while to figure out what im going to do.
complete sidenote – how good was destiny’s child’s “the writings on the wall” exactly? i’m blasting the shit right now reminiscing on when miss new creole booty was still black…
@ Ed
Some of my biggest problems came from how they treated a lot of artists…Like not playing Little Brother for bullshit reasons, Telling the Beatnuts “they don’t break new artisits”…WTF??? Mind you MTV is bullshit, but they do at least have a variety of things on. I mean even from a business stand point…I’d rather have everyone on this board check me out for an hour each then have 2 of you checking me for 5.
Sigh, I miss the Midnight Love BET.
@ bajan girl bwahahahahahahhaahaha – and hopefully breaking all those damn toothpicks too… preserving his sexy indeed *smh* cassie must have a strong ass stomach, for real…
Amadeo:
I agree with you, but Bob Johnson is long since removed from the programming side of things. I can not stand BET, but I argue that Bob Johnson isn’t the bad guy everyone thinks he is. He just has said some stupid shit on camera.
Lol
BK24/7
you say you dont care what other countries think…until you try to do some international business. Or until you visit and they think you are Free off of 106. It matters because they TREAT you like the shit they think you are.
To me, entertainment is more than garbage. I like cooking shows, decorating shows, makeover shows, sports shows…more than Lil wayne walking around looking like Yo Gabba Gabba. (wikipedia that…sorry my daughter is 3)
But I dislike lots of blacks…AND 2520s for the same thing. Bob Johnson and Clarence Thomas can both kiss MY ass
8th:
We can make our own Midnight Love.
Amadeo: Amen!!!! Little Brother at least got play on MTV2!!!! I was “lovin it”
@ puff
I don’t remember the rate offhand…but is that less then 20-23K in pounds?
1. Only 2520′s would air a broadcast about a fucking potato.
2. BET was filmed live in Hell and is broadcast daily for your viewing torture. I swear, if I ever go to DC, one of the things on my agenda will be to set the damn BET HQ on fire. Arrest me dammit! I’m just trying to save the world!
BET HQ isnt still in DC is it?
Ed:
Speak more Spanish. It’ll go down.
@ Vanita
Yes ma’am, right on NY avenue.
8th:
We can make our own Midnight Love.
Nice. 2 points to Edumacated.
Black people that should be disowned by the black community:
* Bob Johnson
* Jesse Jackson
* Condoleeza Rice
* G-Unit
* Everybody who works for/acts on BET
* Monique (why is she trying to promote morbid obesity?)
* 99.9% of “mainstream rappers”
* The lazy bastards at the NAACP
(any additions? Yes, I’m in hater mode.)
@ amadeo – it’s like 17 or 18 grand, give or take. in other words, nothing to survive on in london which is about the most expensive city in the world… just thinking about it is making my eyes water
@ Ed
First: LOL @ making midnight love
Second: I do hear you, but it irks me when I see people who are all about business not take full advantage of things businesswise. It just makes it worse when it’s something like BET that people use as a measure for a race of people (especially cause I am one).
Like Hip-Hop in general…rock has all of these genres in record stores…not hip-hop…it’s just one solid block. Then when signing artists it’s treated the same way. People will tap into some little emo-fag-punk fad cause they know there is a market even if it’s not a big one. With hip-hop they keep trying to stick everything in the same bag. It pisses me off for various reasons, but when I break it all down to business it still doesn’t make sense to operate that way.
@ Chaotic
I used to reeeeeally feel some kinda way about Mo’Nique, but she has a radio show now in the MD/DC area (I mean, its syndicated, so you may have it in your area too), and its really made me respect her a lot. She actually has more than garbage to say. And she definitely has a personal trainer now, as most “Big & Proud” celebrities do once they become celebrities.
Like Queen Latifah, I really hope Mo’Nique turns her schtick around to be more like “Big is beautiful, but healthy is even sexier.” That way her fans will see losing weight less as an image thing and more as a health thing.
I heard Monique had lost like 100 llbs. lol she is a fatty sellout
I grew up like a bet a lot of you did, exposed to many different things. I loved early to mid-eighties hip hop and you’ll be surprised about how they talked about guns and drugs, even if it was only in passing.
I loved 2 live Crew, Kool G. Rap, hell I even put my pops and aunt on to Easy “I might be a woman beater, but I’m not a pussy eater” E. I loved NWA and any other “gangsta” rappers. I watched BET all the time and was exposed to a lot of bullshit. And I bet ya’ll did too.
Point being, I watched, listened to, and enjoyed the worst the world of entertainment had to offer and I think I turned out alright. College educated, over 30 with no kids and never been burnt.
We pay too much attention to the small percentage of people who do bad things. Those little girls on the youtube video weren’t doing that because of BET, they were doing that to emulate their dumb ass parents.
Trust me, if BET and hip hop never existed, there would still be simple minded fucktards being influenced by something else.
@ 8th…I’ll have to check that out.
@ Esquire…rumor has it, she got a secret bariatric (sp?) surgery….
yup BK:
you are right and lucky. Not all of us grew up exposed to lots of different things. Believe or not, for some, they go out and see real drug dealers, real prostitutes and go home and cut on BET and HOT DAMN…whaddaya know?
dumb people will always exist. but we dont have to speed up the process. I dont think that percentage is as small in our community as you think.
Couldn’t skim through all the comments @ work but..I would encourage anyone who is not watching International news to get on it asap. You will be surprised to see how one sided the information being presented in America is. Even on a busy day, I make sure to check BBC, Al Jazeera English, Daily Show and Colbert Report. There are a TON of news outlets. Just make an effort to obtain the news from all angles. The worst thing is trying to come off as knowledgable of world events then regurgiating everything Wolf Blitzer said. Ugh.
If you ever travel internationally, engage with people you meet about the US. They think we’re a bunch of tards. I was just in Trinidad & Tobago recently and they think we are all a hot mess. Once you engage them though, and show you are not a ignoramus, they look at you differently. Then you feel you did your patriotic duty.
I meant those news outlets, on top of news in the states.
@ BK…back then, when we were growing up watching BET, there was a balance of both filth and good. There were news programs, Teen Summit, in addition to Gospel music on Sundays. Now its just ignorant ass people on College Hill and super ghetto-fied crappy ass blaxploitation movies (see: Soul Plane) that these kids are watching, and seeing that its ok to act this way because their parents aren’t there to tell them right from wrong.
@ Overit…I love BBC!
CNN doesn’t like Black people.
Ha let me stop messing with you guys. I’m going to miss this damn blog.
You know, one of the most annoying things to me about BET (off top) is that damn show Hell Date. I hate, hate, hate how awful people act when the midget dressed in a devil suit comes out. “I aint neva see little people be fo’” Or they run and act like they saw a ghost, wth?
achondroplasiaphobia
its a real condition overit.
mmmmmmmmmohaahahaha
You’ll can say whatever you’ll want to about Monique being big, cooning on UPN, or whatever, but I certainly got my share of laughs from her acting like a crazy woman on the Parkers.
Oh and for those seeking advice on news outlets, there is news and then there are books. In regards to all the conflicts raging in Africa. the ME and Latin America, whether economic or civil, whatever, READ the history books! I can’t stand it when people act like a bunch of savage Africans woke up one morning in 1992 and decided to hack each other with machetes. I’m not saying the shit was exscusable in any way, but a lot of these conflicts are the fruits of seeds planted long ago. You will look at the Iraq conflict and many other issues being reported in the news from the most short sighted view, with a far better one.
B4Prez, I take offense to Monique saying skinny bitches are evil and can’t cook lol. I laugh but damn, she goes hard on skinny women.
@ BK
Same here…thing was (as has been stated) we had more of a balance then these kids are getting. I remember hearing Onyx on the radio, but then they would play the Pharcyde. It was cool to listen to N.W.A. and still try to jump over your leg like Kid N’ Play.
I tell these kids I work with that Hip-Hop used to be like your block…there were some dudes that wanted to go to the club and just dance. There was a dude that was all about his gear, there was a dude who did nothing but rhyme and there were some hardcore ass thugs.
Thing is everyone is not that hardcore ass thug. Back then Hip Hop music represented that and had a place for you…know the choices are waaay more slim then what real life is.
Esquire you wrong and you know it! lol
Any chance you can be convinced to keep on beyond the final three? This site has a great voice and I don;t know how I’ll occupy the lost 10 minutes per day of my time.
Anyone else remember when Uncut would play “What That Thang Smell Like” by Black Jesus? And that rapper from Alaska…As if Anchorage is so damn gangsta…
@overit -
Though I can’t relate to it first hand, being a male, I’m not mad at Monique for throwing salt at skinny women because everyone throws dirt at big girls all of the time. U gotta take it if ur gonna give it.
@ Rev: That video gave me nightmares.
*shudder*
@ Chaotic and Amadeo
That balance is what’s missing nowadays. That’s why I don’t watch BET or listen to the radio. You can’t listen to the hip-hop station in your city with young kids in the car. Even if they censor it, they’re still saying crazy stuff.
If and when I have children, I’ll break it down for them. I’ll give them that old school music that they’ll love as children, hate as teenagers, and thank me for exposing them to it when they’re grown.
Whenever my younger cousins ride with me, I turn to the country music station or the rock music station just to piss them off. I ain’t tryin to hear that bullshit they listen to!
@ BK
That’s exactly what my parents did. I was raised on Motown and Disco, and Jazz. People look at me crazy when I’m riding down the street bumping Jackie Wilson. But my parents also let me listen to what was popular when I was a child. The difference between now and then is, they explained to me the difference between entertainment and reality, and I never got the two twisted. Even though I heard about bitches and hoes, I never took any of it as more than entertainment. More parents need to have that discussion with thier chirren.
I hate CNN, but I don’t have cable so I don’t think about it too much. Hearing “CNN” brings me back to my hardcore obsession with New York Hip-Hop in the late 90′s. “C.N.N. network/channel 10/it’s on again
Street niggas that’ grown men”. You know, Capone and Noriega. I used to ask dudes if they “copped that War Report” before they got my number. I was crazy.
Wait? What were we talking about? What, what?
@ B4Prez, I feel you, trust I laugh with her and as much as big girls get it, nobody can get mad. Plus she is not completely serious anyways lol. I love Monique!
The minute I hear a dude referece, listen, or even nod his head to G-Unit..its over.
Overit, stop lying, you know you want a man to teach you how to stunt.
Also, I was on fb WAITING for the story last night and all I got was a brief hello from your little sister, lol.
@ ST
Word? The War Report is a classic. You’re quoting lyrics too? Now I’m sure about your passenger seat rolling skills!
@ st…it seems like ages ago when CNN was still hip hop….now with Noriega trying to be reggaton (he’s horrible, if you ask me, although Oye Mi Canto was my shit)….
As for Monique, and the skinny bitches thing…thats not what bothered me. I actually thought that routine was hilarious (and I’m a teeny tiny girl). What bothered me about her is that she was pregnant with twins and you couldn’t tell because she was so out of shape, and she was happy about it. I mean shit, I even liked the Parkers. It was just her joy about being unfit and unhealthy that was disturbing.
@ Overit
“The minute I hear a dude referece, listen, or even nod his head to G-Unit..its over.”
For real? Damn. Everyone has their guilty pleasures.
Before I go and defend 50/G Unit all day, I will issue a disclaimer: My boy does all of their packaging and I do his books. So if you’re encouraging people not to support them, you’re encouraging them not to support ME! Stop it!
In other news:
From the makers of Ojamas come Obamaflop!
lmao!!! This has to be the best election ever for merchandising. Great economic pick me up if you ask me…
Has anyone else made the connection that the reason why “all black ppl can dance” is because we grow up dancing with music in the house? YTs don’t get that if they grow up hearing rhythms then they’re more likely to have some after a while.
LMAO @ 8th and BK…I will be the first to admit I like some ignorant hip hop too. I’m talking about those dudes who will rep 50 (g-ggggggggGuniiiiiiiiit) and argue that 50 beats Nas (grr) or that 50 is the “realest MC”. These are the dudes who make me want to be a hermit. If someone will drop 50 for Nas, Kweli, or Dead Prez..then we’re good.
@ 8th, she just got a car and thinks she can pop up whenever! LOL, my bad. I’ma catch you online:)
“What bothered me about her is that she was pregnant with twins and you couldn’t tell because she was so out of shape”
LOLOLOL
@ B4Prez
I’m an exception to that. My mom always told me “your father had the loudest stereo on the block, but couldn’t dance a lick!”
I’m afraid I take after him in that regard.
I met this white dude with rhythm a few weeks ago, he was a rapper and actually pretty good. What was funny is his mannerisms, the way he spoke, his thought process all said Black, everything except his skin. When I say Black I mean educated Black, not nigga. Maybe its because he was Italian, either way he was cool.
BK, get yo money, you gotta work within the system to bring it down.
muahahahahahha
LOL @ Diva. There are stories about the morbidly obese who get pregnant and dont know it until they start to have ‘cramps’ and deliver the damn baby. smh
I cant dance. I can shake my ass, but dance, no.
Overit
Let the record state that Nas is the greatest rapper, MC, EVER! I didn’t want him to take the crown from Rakim, but listening to his new album solidified it for me.
50 is a better rapper than people give him credit for, but if someone said 50 was better that Nas, you should never ask for their opinion ever again. On anything!
@ Apollo “Not to mention that CNN is the fabulous news network that brought us the atrocity “Black in America.”
As much as my name suggests, I am NOT over that.
*stretch* Office naps are by far the best.
50 is actually pretty funny
Sorry, coming in all late… but I just wanted to say that I dont f*cks with CNN. I watch C-SPAN because there are less, if any pundits. They just play the news, with very very little editorializing. That means it can get kinda boring, but I’d rather watch the DNC, uninterrupted, and make my own decisions, instead of letting some talkinghead rake my people over the coals.
MSNBC, Faux, CNN, they all make me want to join the Taliban and attack CNN in the name of Al_ah.
“Let the record state that Nas is the greatest rapper, MC, EVER!”
BK, you are my new best friend! The thing about Nas, he isn’t taking ANYthing from Rakim, he is not acting like he is better, he gives due where it belongs.
50′s lyrics are not the worst but when I really lost respect for him is when he was beefin with Nas and said he will break him, ruin his career, then relish at offering him a job. WTF? This fool built a career off of getting shot in the pinky 7 times and wants to talk about breaking Nas? Arrogance is a pet peeve of mine.
@Jen – Jesus on a moth. You win!
There are always exceptions (see: coloreds bringin the rest of us down cus u can’t get ur 2 step together). So much for an all-black sweep in the Synchronized Electric Slide finals at the 2012 Games.
lmao!
@ Riz, the FBI read that..and they are coming for you.
Seriously, I hate the Taliban. They are not Islam!!!
overit,
You’re right. Nas did do a verbal autobiography of Rakim. He does pay homage.
I love Nas not only because he’s the best lyrically, but he’s one of a few true artists in rap today. He reminds me of his dad in that respect. When he released I Can as a single? I bet the label wasn’t trying to have that.
50 was just mad they took him off that J-lo song and put Nas on it. I guess he felt Nas should have said no, let 50 stay on it, but why would Nas do that?
50 is smart, but he definitely can act childish at times.
When I was a youngster I couldnt dance….
Then someone turned on the pleasure principal.
Thank you Damita.
overit:
I lost respect for Fitty, when he went from making the hotness to the wackness.
I love Nas… but overall my musical tastes are a lot more underground. I love Rap.. I love Hip Hop.. but now I’m a little more mellow.
Damita Jo if ur nasty
I hate you all for not caring that I met a cool ass Italian dude. I was really excited about it, what kind of baby mother do I have in you 8th?
@ BK you sum it perfectly. I don’t doubt 50 is smart, but he acts childish!
@ 8th, why did I start moving my shoulder from side to side like pleasure principle uhoh uhoh uhohhhhhhhhhh, Can we have an SBPH dance party?!
@ Edumucated: Basically.
B4Prez- Oh yeah, I’m a head from way back. You wouldn’t catch me listening to CNN NOW, unless it was on some nostalgia shit. I’s a woman now, I listen to Gil Scott Heron and Van Hunt and shit. But that was my kick back in the day. “Me and my girls rock
PradaH&M and smokemadthe occasional marijuana”. I’m so at home in Brooklyn.Man, if a dude told me he was a big G-Unit fan, I would be soooo turned off. You gotta be fine as HELL to make up for that fuckery, and the whole time I’d still be trying to figure out how I could “Drop Squad” him and help him see the light.
LOL @ Edumucated, I totally was going to say something about that. The coolest, downest (whatever its a word to ME) white boys I’ve met have either been from Europe or NY lol. Italians are just on their own stuff anyways.
feel validated?
@ Ed: Sigh. You are really high maintenance. Here’s an, “I met an Italian guy” cookie.
@ overit: yes we can! First song at the party, ” I Like” by Guy.
Well, of course everyone hates the Taliban! But when I see some of the tryf things on TV, it makes me want to hate America. Luckily, I live here, and I see its good parts, so I don’t hate. But man… If I judged America from these news organizations, then I would be a terrorist.
ST, this past weekend solidified I need to be in NY. Why did I feel like my life here in N. Va and working in DC is the Truman show compared? There was just more life out there. Except for all the white woman who would stop and straight up GAPE when I walked by their bullshit ass bougie ass houses while they walked their Jurassic Park looking dogs. What happened to a regular old Golden Retriever?
You aint lying, a dude would need to be a physicist to listen to 50 cent. Dealing with all that science all day, he just would not want to think. And I would understand.
If you like lyrics, check out Jay Electronica. Dude is the truth! My boy was bigging him up for months and I just downloaded his mixtape “What the F*ck is a Jay Electronica?” Fire!
http://www.zshare.net/download/1106613810442414/
Overit:
For the most part I do. I just really needed to know if anyone had ever met a Black white person before, because it blew me. I make a distinction between a Black man and a nigga, and 99% of the white people i’ve met who are “in-tune” with Black America want to be niggas. This white (are Italians still white?) guy was like an educated Black man not a nigga, and that is what got me. He could speak intellectually on Black issues without sounding pompous or like he read it in a book. I was amazed. His girlfriend was Black and it was really the first time I’ve seen a white/Black interracial couple that I was ok with (I know this is a terrible thing to say).
8th wonder..STOP! Now I’m really about to act outside my work demeanor and show these people how I get down. I liiiike it….aww babaay!
@ Riz I fee you. I’m telling you, they are trying to make us lose our ritcheous minds.
Jay Electronica is Erykah Badu’s new thang thang according to VIBE.
You know what happens to negros who tap Erykah.
Overit, next song- Square Biz by Teena Marie
lets get it CRAKIN.
LOL @ 8th. Erykah got that fire! Mess wit’cha head!
“His girlfriend was Black and it was really the first time I’ve seen a white/Black interracial couple that I was ok with (I know this is a terrible thing to say).”
No I hear you. Most interracial couples are a mirror of what Black culture has been reduced to baggy jeans, slang and NO knowledge of history or wild hand gestures and like broken sentences. Unacceptable.
Jay Electronica is alright. I also heard 8ball is tapping Kid Sister, which confused me greatly.
I am just waiting for Hip-Hop to turn in a direction I can appreciate more, there hasn’t been a new artist for a while which has really wowed me. Old artists making great albums (Nas, Jay-Z), but no young dudes making a move for the crown.
8th:
I have a 4 month old baby girl waiting for me every day when I get out of work, I think I should be allowed to be high maintenance on here.
*Gives Ed a hug*
You know I lub you e-boo
You know what happens to negros who tap Erykah-LOL. You aint lyin. Erykah that magic.
Teena Marie? You want me to just lose it at work. Matta fact, lemme close this door.
Overit:
I really don’t have a problem with interracial couples as an idea. My problem is that I don’t believe most white men can appreciate the intricacies of a Black woman. If the dude can appreciate a Black woman the way she should be appreciated, is not just doing it so he can get a hood pass or have an exotic girl on his arm, then I don’t have a problem with it per se.
That all leads to a good question, obviously white people will never be able to fully experience being Black in America, but can they understand and appreciate it?
@ BK24/7
Nope…I like Nas but until I die I will shout that Melle Mel is the best EVER! His shit from the early 80′s is still better then 98.5% of what’s out now.
Overit
if you closed the office door, then lets take it to One Nation Under a Groove and p-funk our asses into oblivion.
Edu: That’s a good question. I know an interracial couple where both individuals are absolutely amazing. However, together there are so many challenges. She’s black and has two black children from previous relationships, he’s white. Together they have a set of biracial twins. It’s a really tough environment they have found themselves in. Especially because he finds it hard to relate to his step-son who is fully black.
8th:
You can have all that, I am here drowning out my coworkers country with a little Curtis. The real curtis. “I’m your pusherman.”
When I was little I grew up on Bootsy and George when my dad was really feeling himself, and then Whodini and GrandMaster Flash and the Furious Five when he was hip.
But with my mom, I woke up to Luther every saturday and the smell of Pine Sol.
Edumacated…
The black white boys I know lean more to the ignorant side. Like this kid my boy went to college with. White boy was from Lynn, Mass. and was more hood than me and my boys put together. He bagged a lot of black girls though.
He was a computer software trainer so he went all over the country for work. He ended up in Hampton and since another one of our friends went to school there, he called up some peeps so my boy could chill out after his assignment. We got a phone call soon after from VA telling us they were getting ready to kill white boy because he was hanging around a bunch of blacks he didn’t know and throwing nigga around like he didn’t care. We used to say “That’s just him. He’s “blacker” than all of us!”
That all leads to a good question, obviously white people will never be able to fully experience being Black in America, but can they understand and appreciate it?
When you take away all the negative media, ignorance passed down from families, and just bring it down to the human experience. I think yes. I’m a very feeling person and obviously someone who lost a whole rack of family members to the Holocause will feel it more, but who is not affected deeply when they see the Holocaust, genocide, homeless people etc? As much as I can’t stant 2520s, historical and current oppression, I try my best to understand people and where they are coming from. I’ve met some amazing white people who have a real understanding of how shit really is, how its messed whole generations and societies up, and do their best to do their part.
I think it would be a disservice to white people in general to say they are not capable of understanding and appreciating the black struggle. I grew up around a lot of jazz and some of the best musicians and people were white. They understood what their fellow artists went through and they were all like brothers…I don’t know, I know its possible. And I know what could be is not what is…but that it could be.
JG:
I understand the challenges, I am Afro-Latino and my girlfriend/the mother of my baby is Italian and Brazilian, so there are a lot of different cultures being melded. My question though is can a white man (or woman for that matter), appreciate a black woman the way a black man would?
I definitely don’t agree with the white people who think they understand and know what you are going through because they read it in a book or one time were in a room that was all Black people one time. I want to believe in white/Black relationships, but I just have a hard time thinking that the white person could appreciate their Black lover.
Amadeo,
Melle Mell was definitely ahead of his time. I have Beat Street in my head and then there’s this…
Ed
Are you telling me you prefer Curtis over P-funk? Are we about to have our first fight?
JG i feel you on that Pine Sol on a saturday morning!!
Remembering that sunday morning cleanups with Music blasting and me cleaning the tub with comet and mr. Clean!!
Blue-pilling it ya’ll
see ya manana
I’ve known and loves a lot of 2520s in my life, some who are like brothers and sisters to me. But they will never understand the Black experience truly. It’s simply impossible, so long as we live different lives in the modern day.
Similarly, I can empathize all I want to other races, but I can never truly understand what its like to escape a war-torn country or have to immigrate to an entirely new land. I don’t want to belittle those experiences by claiming that I can “get it” just because I’ve seen movies, read books and talked to people about it.
Edu: Sorry. I got carried away in my story. LOL But from watching them, I don’t think they are both able to understand each other on the level that a black man/white woman would. They are two awesome people and they love each other, but there is a level of frustration that she experiences in the world that he cannot understand. It’s not as moronic as “I hate whitey” and he doesn’t get it. It’s just the pressures and frustrations that she cannot articulate to him. There are things that she feels a black man would just “know”. And likewise for him. She feels that she’s “missing” something in terms of just being able to “know” the things he experiences in the world.
@ST – Since ur such good friends with Mary Jane, are you gonna be at the Caribbean/Labor Day parade?
Amadeo, I usually stick to Nas, Kweli and Dead Prez etc cause most people can’t hang that far back. But if we are going to take it there, sheeeeeeeeeeeeet. Let’s go!
JG! LOL that cracked me up, cause that was my house, except it was pine sol and Pancakes on Saturdays. To this day, Saturdays and pancakes just do it for me.
Edumucated, as much as I think that its humanly possible to get to a place where struggles are appreciated, if you ask ME, I definitely see myself with a brother over another..simply because I don’t want to defend my experience in my own home, to in laws etc. That said, I’ve seen it work.
Curtis Mayfield e-boo. The Pusherman.
Overit:
I just feel like 2520s so often claim to understand because they did Teach for America or volunteer out at Ballou or Anacostia High, but at the end of the day they go home to their house in the suburbs and separate away from it all. I think it takes a very high level of intellect to be able to really internalize and understand a struggle that will not effect you everyday. What BK24/7 was saying I agree with, I have met plenty of White niggas, but they don’t get the struggle.
@ Ed
the really cool white people I knew(or have known) were people that realized that no matter where you turn there are assholes and ignorant people in every group.
Those were the ones that had good taste in hip-hop and would put me on to shit. Those were the ones that would date black dudes based on personality and didn’t want one “just cause they were black”…they would date a cool white boy just as quick.
I see it where I work…like minded people get together…ignorant folks regardless of color end up together and the sensible people regardless of color end up together.
I saw Teena Marie and Guy…
*gets excited*
Prince – Erotic City
Madonna – Lucky Star
Teena Marie- I Need Your Lovin
*tries to not go too old school for the sake of the youngins*
Soul For Real – Every Little Thing I Do
Hi Five – The Kissing Game
New Edition – Cool It Now
Evelyn King – love come down
Afrika Bambaataa – Planet rock
Oh see, I’m not even talking about those people. I’m talking about people who TRULY make an effort to understand, then don’t dominate a conversation saying “trust me, I understand but slavery is over”. I mean those who study, read, be friend those whose struggle they seek to understand and then still acknowledge they wont understand.
@ Riz, empathy is a big deal. Most of these 2520s don’t even have that much.
@ amadeo…so very true about ignorant people stick together. I wont exactly say the same with intelligent people. They often tend to gravitate towards people who they feel can relate, or understand what they’re going through.
Ooooohhh I love me some Erotic City. I love everything ever put out by Prince or any of his bad ass chicks.
Am I the only one who sang Karyn White’s Superwoman lyrics with a hairbrush in front of a full length mirror?
I’m not your superwoman
I’m not the kind of girl that you can let down
And think that everything’s okay
Boy, I am only human
This girl needs more than occasional
Hugs as a token of love from you to me, ooh, baby
Overit:
“they seek to understand and then still acknowledge they wont understand.”
I say to this, you either get it or you don’t. I feel like people who are really reading every book they can to try and understand, while that’s great, but that proves to me they won’t ever get it.
I really am lost, because up until I met this guy and his girl, I was extremely opposed to interracial relationships, now I am just confused. I was confused to the point that I even questioned whether our fight to only date within our race is something that has been institutionalized into us to keep us from “dirtying” another race. I don’t feel like I see it in other races (other than the outright racists). We as Black people always say, well I will date white but I want to marry Black so they will understand me.
I don’t want to talk about music, it will make me feel really old. lol. My mami was a big Billy Ocean fan. She didn’t understand anything he was saying, but she had a crush on him. “Get out of my dreams, and into my car.”
overit: Oh.My.Goodness. Did my mom raise you too? There is a picture of me holding a hairbrush standing on our couch belting Superwoman out at the top of my lungs. That was my SONG!
“Early in the mornin I put BREAKFAST on yo table. I make sure that your coffee has it’s sugar and cream”
Then you have the white boys who love underground rap, Rage Against the Machine and want to Free Mumia. I work with someone like that. He seems sincere and can acknowledge what has happened to blacks in America.
He told me he went to a PE concert in the ’90s. He had a Free Mumia banner with him and Chuck D invited him on stage. He wanted to meet Chuck backstage after the show but was warned that Chuck probably left, and the other guys (S1W’s perhaps) would beat his ass and fuck his girl.
Honestly, it depends on the individual. Personally, being Muslim, black, E African, a woman, (lol do i need to put my social on here too) I find myself having to explain things to too many people. Caught between multiple worlds and coming across too many people who refuse to acknowledge one or the other. Ideally I’d like for my partner to be able to be a place where I can just BE damnit. Its a bit different in Europe, Latin America etc. America is definitely one of the most race concious countries. There is a lot to contend with and I do feel like living here your whole life your natural inclinations are obvviously tainted with the BS you deal with day to day.

It might prove they wont ever get it but if they dont know how will they ever? I give credit to ppl who TRY than those who choose to cling to miseducation passed down from their freakin slave owning ancestors.
BK, that reminded me of that scene in Malcolm X where that white girl came up to him on the stairs and asked if there was anything she could do and he looked at her and said no.
Crucial.
Ed,
My mom loved some Billy Ocean. Jeffrey Osborne too! And some white dude that won the first Star Search I think. Forget his name.
I had to go to classes but I have to say that I cannot go back on my statement. Edumacated said something about “getting” his/her (sorry) news from other media outlets and that is fine. I was just talking about those douchebags who say that they only “get” their news from the Daily Show.
By the way, I HATE the expression “getting” news. You can’t “get” news. You can read it or watch it and that’s it. Where this “getting” one’s news comes from is a mystery of the English language.
Okay, so Me, Overit, Chaotic and JG are the awesomest chicks EVER.
I was singing superwoman this MORNING.
Boy, I am only human…
Sam Harris?
Don’t get me on Jeffrey O. Love Ballad is one of my favorite songs.
It’s amazing how many people think that because they watch CNN they are informed. I had to take a hiatus from watching TV at all due to overexposure to 24 hour news during the primaries. I could feel my brain cells disolving.
lol @ 8th, kindred spirits!
“Curtis Mayfield e-boo. The Pusherman.”
Sorry E-boo, my mind was still thinkin Fiddy. Now how’s about some mid(day) love?
I grew up on Hector Lavoe, and Tito Nieves. My papi loves salsa. Then I got into GoGo. lol Chuck B, EU…
you know what, I think Chris really needs to seriously consider a SBPH sitcom.
ooh does anybody remember Kut Klose? “I like” is my jam!!!! I also remember how “knockin da boots” used to make me blush once I understood what they were talking about (I was young…and at that time, someone told me it was about kissing…lmao).
Chuck baby dont give a what!
Overit,
Good call. Boy my mom loved him, at least for one album anyway.
Moms also loved the white Mariah.
8th:
Only if its quick, because I am leaving to go see my baby in about 20 minutes. She gets so happy when I get home, I love babies. lol No one has yet mentioned Earth Wind & Fire yet.
Trouble Funk, Rare Essence
The movie Good to Go
Not this shit they call Gogo now. Boo CCB and Mambo Sauce.
Who else here used to take their parents cassettes and either used tissue or tape so they could record over them?
I’m showing my age, aren’t I?
Krush Groove
World Class Wreckin Cru
Roxanne Shante
Ed,
When I graduated from high school, my mom gave me my first CD player with EWF greatest hits and Marvin Gaye’s greatest hits for my grad present.
I love my mom!
BK24/7:
My parents would have beat my ass had I played with their tapes. I had the ill mixtapes though. How about when the tape would get stuck in the player and you would just end up with that long string of tape?
@ Ed…I didn’t get introduced to salsa until my mom decided to bring home a Tito Puente CD. My dad was more into hip hop than anything (swear its a Queens thing). But when I got into college, I started getting into classic Celia Cruz, Buena Vista Social Club, and La India. Of course there’s Alexandre Pires…but he’s more Samba than anything…
…I realize that I like Samba a bit more than Salsa…Sergio Mendes is my dude!
you know, if i had to choose one artist it would have to be Sade. No matter what I’m always in the mood to listen to her.
I love Sadeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Ed,
I used to take the tapes that were collecting dust. My mom wasn’t listening to them anyway. But when my folks were still together, death was almost guaranteed if you made my dad’s record skip while playing in the living room.
http://www.megsplace.com/TimeWarp/child.html
lol @ Casette tapes. I just found all my old mix tapes that I would attempt to throw together…lmao!
While on music, I gotta pub MC Lyte, who’s doing it big with her new group Almost September…
…sorry…but she still rocks it.
And Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie (although he comes off as a bit slow to me), the old LL (although not as sexy), Boyz II Men (motownphilly, II), Montell Jordan (circa his first 2 cd’s), Slick Rick, Dana Dane…shit, they got me started…
“HEEEEEYYYY YOU GUYSSSS!”
Reference?
Can we make a “You might have been a Black kid in the 80s if you remember…” list?
WOW@ BK 24/7 – I used to do that all of the time
Edu: That would be awesome. But you know what. I might suck on that one. Because I grew up in the country with the 2520′s.
From CNN to 50 and Nas. Boy I tell you… I was too busy today to partake in the conversation. I got a shitloada stuff to do tomorrow too, but its SBPH’s last day, so they gon’ sho’nuff hafta wait.
Can we play the Sho’nuff game again tomorrow? Pleeeeease?
JG – Goonies! Right?
Yonnie:
Sho’nuff is not a game but a way of life. Who’s the baddest?
Speaking of LL, anybody heard his new song? I can’t remember who its with. But LL starts off his first verse with something about how the “little girl” looked. Anybody know what I’m talking about? It grosses me out everytime. That negro is too old to be talking about a “little girl.”
Yonnie: HI FIVE!!! Correct. I loved that movie.. So much.
And Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie (although he comes off as a bit slow to me), the old LL (although not as sexy), Boyz II Men (motownphilly, II), Montell Jordan (circa his first 2 cd’s), Slick Rick, Dana Dane…shit, they got me started…
You know as soon as people hear This is how we do ittttt…its a wrap. Everything on your list.
Krs1 is still doin it. Big Daddy Kane! I def “borrowed” my aunts tape and took it to my elementary school to profile.
@ Ed: Quick? Nah, I’ll wait. LOL
And I used to tape over IMPORTANT shit…got that good whoopin a few times for that.
Remember waiting all night for the radio to play your song then running like a fool to the stereo to press record?
B4P- Man, I dunno. They be shooting on the Parkway and I don’t like most modern Dancehall anyway. I’m trying to go party with some cute boys, really that is all I care about. I really want to go to DJ Spinna’s Prince vs. MJ party but it’s always bananas trying to get in, I hear.
Remember waiting all night for the radio to play your song then running like a fool to the stereo to press record?
LMAO! Man…you took me back with that one. YES!
@ Yonnie, the new LL song is called Baby. I love it, because I love anything The-Dream sings on for some reason.
In other news: did anybody realize its the 45th anniversary of the “I Have a Dream” speech? Its kind of awesome because Obama will be making his Presidential nominee acceptance speech today. Nice to see the 45 year progression…
But yea, this is how we do it is my SHIZNIT!
As for that 80′s baby site…I’m starting to think the only reason I remember so much of the 80s is that my parents were in their mid-20′s still rocking out…
And yes, I own EVERY MJJ CD. As well as Control on casette.
Living in central CT, if you could get Red Alert on your radio on Friday nights, you were the man! My brother and I would string all types of wires out the window to try and pull KISS FM from almost 100 miles away.
One day I set up to record and got the station in stereo! I was so amped. I had my tape ready and everything. Once Red came on……..static! This is when Top Billing was the best song ever!
@ st…where is that party at? I wanna go…
@ 8th…the Dream doesn’t annoy you? He’s not as bad as Akon, but his constant “eh’s” as well as his Chester-esque voice scare me.
You might have been a black kid in the ’80s if….
You wanted to be Morris Day.
@ Chaotic
No sadly, I really love his non-singing ass.
@ BK
As soon as you said Morris Day, I did the penguin in my mind.
I am gone for the day, I here my daughter crying for me.
Goodnight Mi Gente, 8th hold on for that midnight love, I will be there.
Man I really want to have an 80s and 90s party. I would not mind re-livin the 90s.
@ BK, Top Billin is still the best ever!
Chaotic- Its somewhere in Manhattan, but I am not sure where. Tickets were pre-sale, so it may be a moot point.
Montell Jordan is 6’8, I’d DEFINITELY have about 10 babies for him. Fine-ass….
I saw Morris Day with Prince and Sheena Easton.
Al B. Sure MC’d my very first concert.
Al B. Sure could get it if he fixed that unibrow…
OOH OOH! Debarge. “I like it” and “love me in a special way”
ST the 6’8 is like 60% of it all. Def baby maker material lol.
Casanova was my ish too
lmao @ ken lee:
http://www.gigglesugar.com/1802343
Casanova!
8th.. The Dream?? The same guy who brought us “fuck… that nigga?” LOL
You get rocks for that.
And I am just in tears.. Already… J. Hud did a great job. Didn’t go overboard with the gospel runs.
JG yeah had me blinking too:) I’m so glad she got to sing it.
Isn’t it Beyonce who goes nuts with the runs?
Def teared up over here. She sang beautifully, and yeah, did not go crazy Beyoncify it w/oversinging.
I mean what are the freakin’ odds. The 45th anniversary of Dr. King Jr’s. speech.
Republicans make me sick. So what if he’s a “celebrity”. At least he’s one people like. And John McCain isn’t? He’s a celebrity, just B list. They should swing it that way. Like “We’re both celebs!!! ‘Cept I’m A-list, and you’re wompity womp womp womp…… B-list.”
@ JG
Next time they say Obama is a celebrity someone should say: “Oh, like Reagan?”
so tomorrow is the last post?
aha! good one Amadeo
no tomorrow is not the last post. I mean it WAS going to be, but Chris felt bad and was like “hold up self, i cant leave these people hanging”.
back to liiiiiiiife, back to reality….
Yeah Amadeo.. Schwarzenegger, too.
p.s. They planned the DNC on Dr. King’s anniversary, on purpose… Not the whole campaign, but this convention was on purpose.
MMM….Venison.
Wassup All,
I am new to the posting. I just found this beacon of light of a blog site while searching for response to this DNC coverage. Wow, now I only have a couple of days to get my points across before it seems like the blog will be plugged.
I am having problems with CNN as well. The way they analyzed this shit is like Barack is about to defend a dissertation. I am sure it is only a matter of time before Wolf Blitzer ponders “Does Barack wears boxers or briefs?” or “Will his jump shot alienate people in Kentucky?” WTF???? I mean do a novel concept like cover the NEWS without filling this breast of a journalistic broadcast with silicone. Oh well, only 4 days until McCain and the Rovettes descend on Minneapolis. Talking about a 4 day splurge on 151.
The dancing at the DNC… Not to keep harping on it, but…. Wowwwww. That’s all I can say.
Is the Tour de France? Is she still dating Lance Armstrong? What in the hell made the DNC want to put on Sheryl Crow as a performer. They could not get Smokey Robinson or someone, lol. I know he ain’t doing shit. Slowly reaching for the Bombay Sapphire with no chaser.
Am I heathen for watching the Pre-season football right now?
Not at all. It is better than this DNC musical performance on now. I just know that Paul Simon is the main act.
STEVIE is performing right now at the DNC.
C-SPAN.
… and Stevie has a Native representing in the band… and an asian dude on drums… and all brothas in suits singing backup.
Lovely!
…they already asked him and he chuckled (@ the boxer/brief thing)
Is it just me or is the music (the background band) a bit um….black? LIke they were playing John Legend’s ‘Ordinary People’ earlier. I like it.
Ahh!! Laughter. The best way to make the white man at ease with the black man. Established 1550 A.D.
Please see “Fiddler” from Roots for biological reference.
Al Gore…I’ll check back later.
@ Chaotic Diva…after they asked him was there a pale rider in the background?
lol…it was actually in a magazine article earlier this year.
btw, does anybody know what they are chanting before they say “yes we can”?
omg…Michael Mcdonald…my blackness is being compromised.
On the coronation of America’s first African-American presidential nominee from a major political party, they have a soulful white man singing. Does anyone else see the irony in this?
You know Michael McDonald has that blue eyed soul, stop hatin!
Paul Begala and the walking-dead (also known as James Carville) are always trying to hate on Obama. Wow, talking about Democratic unity!
I just realized I’m watching today’s topic. Once I see Amy I can turn.
@ CD and KL
ummm…Yamobethere?
@ kirk…lol…yes.
@ bk…he was the stuff until 40 year old virgin…lmao!!!
LOL, since the Doobie Brothers.
Remember him on “What’s Happening” when Rerun had to tape the show or be beat down. Damn, late 70s T.V. had it all.
That soulful white man was good.
When he came on, me and my brother were like ‘oh lord’.
Then after he opened his mouth, we approved.
I say bring out Jon B., Robin Thicke, and Color Me Badd!
Jon B! Dude had a hot song back in the day. I thought CMB song was hot but listen to it now and it’s mad corny. Robin rolls with Pharrell and married Paula Patton.
Robin Thick Wins!
1. At least we’re not subject to Giraldo Rivera.
2. John King pisses me off. He’s that rocket scientist working the touch screen. Closet McCain supporting piece of shit.
3. Anderson Cooper? Pussy for miles.
Robin Thicke and Jon B are winners! Yeah, CMB wasnt really that hot if you listen to it now.
Anymore soulful white men? Saying Michael Bolton could result in the self-destruction of this post.
If you bringing out white dudes…give me Hall and Oates
I heard Anderson Cooper was Gloria Vanderbilts son, is this true?
Hall & Oats all day- Rich Girl and Sarah Smile.
Joe Biden looks like he would fight you in an alley after about 2 beers. We need that. For years the Dems have been as strong as generic garbage bags.
I can respect Hall and Oates.
Bobby Caldwell = Soul
I learned he was white as a grown ass woman, and KNEW I was being lied to.
George Michael was doin his thing back in the day, before everyone found out he was gay.
Joe Cocker…he kicks ass on the Beatles remake….when Wonder Years was on I knew he was a black dude.
Bobby Caldwell and George Micheals, wow I am impressed.
Gotta co-sign Hall & Oates. I was just listening to their greatest hits album last week. I forgot how many hits they had.
Okay…a few months ago I ran across a video on youtube of Patti LaBelle and Joe Crocker singing a duet on Showtime at the Apollo in the 80′s.
All I can say is that I felt they both looked a little touched.
I guess they bring out Roland Martin every fortnight. They better watch out. I heard TV 1 is poaching brothers, lol.
Whamm/George Michael had some joints too. So did Culture Club. Damn Brits!
The only soulful white women that I can think of who could of held their own are Teena Marie and Lisa Stansfield? Any more soulful white women that could of helped out?
Does anyone know that Robin Thicks dad Alan Thicke was the dude that was singing the Dif’rent Strokes theme song? I think he song the song for his show too, Growing Pains.
Annie Lennox? No…no takers?
Wow!!!!!!!! (sounding like Flavor Flav). Boy George.
Does anyone remember Taylor Dane?
Whatyoutalkinbout Willis?
I recall Dana Dane.
Annie Lennox is hot. ‘Why’ is my favorite song by her. What was the name of the duo she was with, they were hot too. I kno they did the song Sweet Dreams.
Taylor Dane had that song ‘I’ll Always Love You’ and not the Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston song.
I must admit the White British singers do have some soul.
I remember Taylor Dayne, she could blow. Tell it To My Heart was her hit.
Lisa Stansfield was and will always be my SHIT.
Do you know I really and truly thought she was “just light skinned” until I was about 18 or 19 years old??
Eurythmics was her duo
I remember Taylor Dane…she did Love Will Lead you Back too
Yeah, Lisa was the shit back in the day. Been Around the World. Classic
Riz-I double majored, Journalism was one of my major…it’s def not easy. I’ve chosen the freelance route for my side ish lol. I can’t see myself working for mainstream media. But you can def do it, don’t be discouraged. There are news agencies that are beginning to realize that there is a world outside US borders. I think its an exciting time to be a journalist. Use this time to get as many publications as you can..you will have to write for free at first but soon you will have a portfolio and can start gettin paid. Good luck:)
LOL @ Taylor Dane. I vote George Michael.
@ Overit: Huh?
I think maybe you accidentally mistyped the name… Although, it sounds nice to be a journalist. My brother was a Sports Writer for most of his life, until recently. I’m a lawyer. But I do respect GOOD journalism. Not the trash on the major networks.
BTW, I am NOT feelin Joss Stone. I don’t care what anyone says. Fiona Apple could whoop Joss Stone any day of the week.
Hey, maybe we can put Remy Shand on with his one-hit wonder ass.
What about Jamiroquai
Amy Winehouse would come if someone would bring the China White. Where is Frank Lucas when you need him.
Im not feelin Joss Stone either, she is not coming from the gut to me.
Jamiroquai, that is a good one.
I’m about to go out and buy some Jamiroquai…I keep forgetting about dude.
If you want to see some blue eyed soul hilarity, youtube Jojo’s (the little teenage R&B singer) childhood performances.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd-QZjlY_oI
This never fails to bring tears of joy to my eyes.
I used to think that Jamiroquai was “light skinned”, like Jen did on that girl.
Okay… Obama is on.
Im kinda feelin Maroon 5 too. And when I was coming up my guilty pleasure was The Red Hot Chili Peppers- Under The Bridge and Give It Away.
Who is gonna get choked up in a few? Is anyone getting the Kleenex close?
@Riz, He probably got some Black in him LOL.
Nice, the Chili Peppers do not have to be a guilty pleasure. Guilty pleasures, at least for me musically, are trash artists that still make catchy music. They aren’t trash.
I always throw on some Brand New Heavies. I love that group.
The Obama children are absolutely gorgeous!!!!
BK24/7- you are right tru that. I said that because it the time, it wasnt the cool thing to be listening to if you werent White, but they are very good. Brand New Heavies too.
I think Im gonna cry seeing Obama on that stage. This is really real.
The Chili Peppers are the shit
ya’ll got emotional when he shouted out Michelle…didn’t you
Two unknown blue eyed soul singers: Jene and Kiley Dean. Those girls can hold their own.
And who can forget child prodigy Jojo?
Hall and Oats is my shit!!!! And now that Jon B is single…I am hoping to tap…lmao…
Joss Stone has one song that doesn’t annoy the shit out of me. And yes for Teena Marie, Robin Thicke (yum), Remy Shand, Jamiroquai (which is a mixed group…lol)…
Average White Band anybody?
@ Kirk…the brand new heavies album with the teal cover is my shit!!! Never Stop and Dream Come True are my two faves from that album, but I can bang it for days..
And I’m mad because I can only hear the speech and can’t see anything on my tv…I can’t get it off of channel 2.
How could I forget Average White Band? I actually have a few of their albums, and yes I said albums. You can consider Brand New Heavies a mixed group also. Hewey Lewis and The News were good too.
@ Huey Lewis and the News
[Christian Bale Voice]They’re too black sounding[/Christian Bale Voice]
(did anybody see American Psycho?)
@ Nice…I had Sports….on Cassette.
Jojo can sing, but Im not feelin her.
I need a hug right now yall. I love Obama, Michelle and Malia and Sasha.
Yes, I saw American Psycho at the movies. I loved his music obsession because I am obsessed with music. I have Hewey Lewis and The News on Album too. I love I want a new drug.
Man, Im mad I threw all my cassettes out. I thought they were no good anymore. This man was bumping Bel Biv Devoe down the street today. Memories
What about Dee-Lite, Groove is In the Heart.
I wanna be like Michelle Obama when I grow up- the epitome of a woman.
I just had a scary thought…If Barack wins the election, what if they try to call him the first Bi-Racial President as opposed to the first BLACK President? I know it’s technically correct, but screw that!
I love that Obama just told parents to do their fucking jobs!!!
I <3 that man!
Groove is in the Heart –> good song!
Tevin Campbell –> Alone With You, Always In My Heart, Can We Talk…
Anybody remember Jonell? She wasn’t that far back…maybe like 02…
They wont do that. He’s been Black all this time, so why when and if he becomes prez will they want to be politically correct? We are all mixed on some level or another. I also think that even tho he acknowledges his bi-racial background he still identifies himself as a Black man.
I was never a big Tevin fan, but I do remember that Jonell song she had with Meth- I have that song a CD somewhere in my ever growing collection.
Not to fret BK, the one drop rule still applies. What black person is called bi-racial? A Keys, Halle Berry, Shemar Moore ,so many others. He certainly acknowledges it, but so do many other mixed celebrities. They choose, and the media chooses to identify themselves as black.
I remember watching a Halle Berry interview where she said her mom sat her down and told her she needs to say she is black. That she can acknowledge her white side, but that this is America, and she’s black.
I also have to say, that for Obama, A Keys, Halle and so many others, to be so comfortable and proud to be who they are, it says something about their white moms. None of them have a complex or issue.
he sure did call out triflin parents. did anyone hear bernie? “do yo muthafuckin JOB”
rip…
I could just see Fox News trying to call him that though! You all are right. They’ll call him black and pray for him to fuck up.
for the record – i love barack obama.
Yes he did. I hope my sons father heard that.
Groove is in the Heart is my joint! Am I the only one who jumped when the fireworks went off. I wasn’t looking at the screen at the time. I just heard a bang. I was like oh no they’re trying to get him….then I turned around and saw the fireworks……I need to relax
Why am I watching BET’s post election coverage?
I really, really, really want Obama to be my president. Not because he is Black, but because he REALLY understands us “regular” people. He is one- just an ordinary person. Maybe that is all we really needed in the first place. I love him. He is like a modern day Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King. Just Brilliant. He really believes in making a difference, not just being a ruler. He wants to see everyone do well, not just the rich and not just Black people. He is the truth and what we needed all this time.
LOL BK, do you want us to say its ok? Is Cousin Jeff on there? Cause I might watch (him)..llol
BK24/7, youre watching it because I am too! LOL.
Obama….
After that speech, we have already won. Not the election, but as a Black community. We have won.
I am so proud. So. Proud.
oh snap..it IS cousin Jeff!
i just hope Ms. I love New York keeps her Obama endorsement to herself..
lmao @ the callers via cspan…
I wish Ludacris would have kept his Obama endorsement to himself- I like him and all, but that song was just a waste of freedom of speech.
The stupid fucking 2520′s calling in on some “I’m supporting Romney/Barr/my coke habit and hating on Obama” are going to make me hunt them down…lmao!
Oh, the callers on C-SPAN are the worst. Some of them, I’m like, did you even watch the speech or research anything?? Angry Republicans!
LOL @ “I’m supporrting my coke habit and voting for Barr.”
Chaotic- “The stupid fucking 2520’s calling in on some “I’m supporting Romney/Barr/my coke habit and hating on Obama”
That is too much, too funny!
C span callers are comedy.
lmao @ the 15 year old kid from Wiscounsin calling out the Obama haters…that was funny…
Um…what is up with the stupid Ron Paul Supporters?
As for the rest of the idiotic callers:
*I will not be a white hating extremist*
*I will not be a white hating extremist*
*I will not be a white hating extremist*
*I will not be a white hating extremist*
*I will not be a white hating extremist*
*I will not be a white hating extremist*
*I will not be a white hating extremist*
*I will not be a white hating extremist*
…pfft.
Reppin Wisonsin to the fullest.
Oh, Wisconsin. How did I spell my home state wrong? LOL
@ nice – be like t-pain spell it wiscansin
sigh..t pain, will not go there.
OMG, ya’ll all the Harleys are here in Milwaukee for the 105 yr anniversary and I think Im gonna lose my mind if I see one more damn bike or get stuck on the freeway again.
MSNBC has Jesse Jackson commenting… Sr… not Jr.
But, Jackson just had a good line; “Looks like America is more ready for Obama than the commenters are.”
@ Riz
Obama….
After that speech, we have already won. Not the election, but as a Black community. We have won.
I am so proud. So. Proud
- I feel you. My heart swelled with pride and the tears came streaming down my face. I know the haters will still hate but this has never been about winning over the haters, but about winning over any body with a modicum of sense and an understanding of the signs of the times.
- I wish Prince was there to sing Sign o’ the times, but I guess he is still recovering from hip replacement
… this has never been about winning over the haters, but about winning over any body with a modicum of sense
CO-F’ing- SIGN!!!!!!!
Haters will continue their campaign of lies. We have shown the entire world what America can be.
@ Nice.
I totally resonate with your expressed sentiment.
Defiant (14:00:48) :
You guys in the states should just watch the BBC or if you’re up in the North CBC which is the Canadian Network no flash just news. I’ve met Americans who have moved up here and like our laid back approach to just about everything. After watching CNN for more then 2 hours I start to feel my blood boiling and I have to turn it off.
I live in Seattle so we get CBC. It’s the only network for watching the Olympics; NBC* was an absolute atrocity
*and its spawn USA, MSNBC, Telemundo and CNBC. I’ll let Oxygen slide, because they weren’t trying
Has anyone seen Robin Meade’s morning show? It comes on opposite the far more in-depth reporting of Mike and Mike on ESPN2 for those who haven’t
been subjected to it during an early morning workout at the gymseen itSpeaking of the Jesus potato – isn’t there a missing Black woman and/or child they could be reporting on? No? Carry on…
Rev Leon Lonnie Luv (17:30:53) :
I remember that Cribs episode with Master P. They were living in Country Club of Louisiana and the camera caught some 2520’s playing golf and just staring at Master P and his crew in disbelief.
This is a very depressing video, but I think all Americans, especially Black Americans, need to understand the economy today. I apologize if you find this upsetting, but we are all hurting due to gas prices today.
Fucking amazing night.
That’s all I can say.
I’ll be watching the RNC next week. But how… how can they compete? It’s going to be a moronic feces throwing fest full of bullshit. Unless they do everything that the Dem’s did including having Obama speak, then it’s going to suck.
@Vik… LMAO!!! That fool had the real ticket too. I aint seen one of those tickets in forever! I have my shit printed out before I leave the house. Head straight for security! LOL
They were reporting that Repubs were considering delaying the convention because of the storm coming in…. Bush is considering not coming to the RNC….
Yeah.
I don’t know how bad the storm is in terms of weather, but I think the real delay may be from Hurricane Obama.
um…last??
Just getting a chance to finally post and just a few thoughts:
*AWB is my shizz!!! I’m only 22, but “If I ever lose this heaven is my jam!
*I am changing my name to Erica Obama in the morning and photoshopping myself into all family photos.
*That speech turned around my completely crappy day.
* C-Span viewers are idiots. Bitter loyal idiots who want to still whine and complain that their candidate(s) did not progress, and whose arguments did not compute, even to a 15 year old!
Angry much?
Oh yeah, my beefs with ol’ Bobby J stem from him being an alum of my (as of the 4th) alma mater, and learning that our cultural center is in the exact same state that is was when he went here!! I wouldn’t have even associated him with this place if they still didn’t try and recognize famous alums. Got his ol’ stanky portrait on the wall in the Union and we can’t get a new coat of paint…
ok. last now. :*)
Chaoticdiva incorrectly stated that “Obamaflops” were made by us. They are NOT. Ojamas Sleepwear is a registered trademark, and we only make one thing – Obama Pajmas. We appreciate the opportunity to provide the correct links. For original Ojamas, please visit http://www.ojamas.us. Coincidentally, the very first pair off the assembly line didn’t quite meet our design specifications, so we’re auctioning it on eBay with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Obama/Biden campaign. I didn’t see Jesse on MSNBC but I did see him talking to Michael Eric Dyson and Rev. Al on TV One and he looked like he was drunk/hungover and like he didn’t want to be bothered. He came across to me as the biggest hater that ever hated as each of his comments underscored historical implications and potential of Obama’s nomination. He basically kept saying that Obama’s nomination was a result of the Civil Rights Movement which is true but Jesse insisted on focusing on what happened in 1954 instead of what’s happening in 2008. He even made a dig about how the poverty level in South Chicago is much greater than it was in the 1960s. He gave a specific statistic but my stats bullshit radar immediately went off and I was thinking that it makes sense to me that there would be more poverty now because the population is larger now. It was almost like he was saying that Obama hasn’t done anything to improve the area but what about Jesse’s organizations that have been around forever? How have they aided the area?
I think Jesse is just mad because Obama was able to do what he never could and that really is sad considering he’s supposed to be a champion of our people. riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
I loved Obama’s speech. I loved that he called out everybody on their own bull. I love that he wants his presidency to not only work for the benefit of regular people but for us regular people to take accountability and work for our own benefit, too.
Now being 1 of the only 2 Blacks in my departmnet I have to go put in some face time with the 2520s. I really wish I could’ve worn my Barack the Vote t-shirt to work today, but I guess my black skin and shit-eating grin will have to do.
@ I should be working
Something interesting, J.J.’s daughter and Michelle Obama have been friends for years she even sang at their wedding. That and the fact that his son is working for Obama push his haterism to new levels.
This is what I wanted though. Not to put Obama on a pedestal, but when you strip away the things that make him an individual he’s what I wanted in this position. Someone who needed student loans, who’s mother had problems with health insurance, who’s white grandfather needed the G.I. bill, someone who’s eaten because of food stamps. It’s bad enough to have a string of old white men, but having a string of them that come from affluent families or that were set for life before they became president…that’s the gap.
:’( one more post guys! Im sad this morning…
@ Amadeo
It’s bad enough to have a string of old white men, but having a string of them that come from affluent families or that were set for life before they became president…that’s the gap.
- yet no one accuses one of them of being elitist!
its very clear obama had to be “accepted” by white people first.
Everyone will hate me for the comment I am about to make, but I need to make it.
I have never been one for politics, I have never voted for a president before, but I was excited to vote for Obama this year. After watching his speech last night I realized I am only voting for him because he is Black. I will still vote for him for this reason, but I listened to his speech and just kept thinking to myself “this is such bullshit, none of this shit he is saying is going to happen.” Last night reality set in that Obama is just another politician. I like his character, I like that he will be the first Black president, but he is still just part of the machine.
Why do you feel like nothing he said is going to happen?
Well, I have my own list of reasons why I am voting for Obama, and at the very least (which does not give him enough credit) he is the better choice of the two.
I am not putting all my hopes and dreams in leadership to begin with, whether Obama or McCain.
Two things that bother me:
Obama’s constant “protect Israel” comments. Before anyone jumps down my throat I realize the power of the Jewish lobby. I just remember how the one time he said something remotely favorable about Palestinians-he was rocked by the media.
Biden’s position on dividing Iraq into 3 with Sunni, Shia, and Kurdish regions.
Edumucated, there is more to Obama aside from his being Black. But I can’t knock people who say that is their motivation for voting for him.
No, Edumucated, I made that conclusion immediately upon deciding to vote for him. My thoughts through the speech: “And how the fuck is this supposed to happen? A 60% flat tax rate?? You may as well be promising a unicorn to every child upon your election. Happy talk indeed!”
I only ask so I can get real insight.
I realize that Obama has lots of plans, and big ones at that. And I realize that it will be difficult for him so I don’t expect it all. I am worried about the people who feel like he is our Saviour, and who expect him to take this mess we’re in and magically make it go away. They will be the ones to jump ship the fastest and that bothers me in advance. He will have 8 years. And the people against him will work even harder to make his goals impossible.
He is feeding those supporters with speeches like this.
I guess it isn’t that much different from any other speech a politician might make trying to be elected, but considered he has been elevated to the level of a deity by Americans, the repercussions will be far worse.
I don’t support Israel, I don’t think it is possible that this country will be gas-free in 10 years, I don’t understand how 95% of the country will receive a tax break, but it will only effect 100 million people. If there are 300 million people in the country, how is it that 100 million equals 95%? Obama is making all sorts of promises, but most of the things he is saying will not happen without congress’ support, and congress will not support most of the things he says.
@ Edumacted
I hear you, all I want is that we could have things like they were under Clinton. As long as people look solely to presidents, senators and so forth not much will change. I just want more bang for my buck and us to stop fucking up in other countries so much.
With a democratic majority some things can get done.
Utopia? Not even close.
I fear for the safety of the Obamas with these loonies out there. The man has yet to be elected, and there have already been two plots to murder him.
I worry about the idiots in this nation.
@ Edu: I hear ya loud and clear.
I think also I am a grassroots optimist. Here in ATL I’ve been doing a lot of work with the campaign and I have some projects of my own on the horizon that will be affecting our community here. Over the span of time that I’ve been working on these things I have seen a change in people’s attitudes, attributable to Obama. Some of these people barely knew who he was, but now they are informed of his platform, registered to vote, have been driven to their poll site so they know where it is, and are very excited to be a part of something. That transitioning into my project is really awesome, because it’s a small effort to help a few people, but it has such potential to grow. To ME, that’s the change I want, and while gas prices are still high and will be high, and taxes suck, some good is and will continue to happen.
@ Edumacated
Yes there is 300+ million people, but how many are of working-age tax payers?
When you exclude, retirees, elderly, disabled, children, good portion of college students, illegal immigrants, stepford wives… I can see the number being close to 100-150 million.
And honestly, even if he wasn’t this great of a candidate, I’m still voting for him because he’s black
@ Ed
Another thing…Democrats in office normally means more grant money available…so there is more chance for people with ideas to get them funded and do something themselves.
This kid is my new roll model. lol You need to watch the videos in the order I posted for the full effect. I just fell out of my seat laughing for the last 20 minutes. This is bad.

Dekela:
That makes sense then.
I just am not convinced that Obama is the knight in shining armor everyone wants him to be. I will still vote for him because is he Black, but he hasn’t made me like politics anymore than I did before.
@ Ed
What bothers me is that everyone may make him out to be more…if he can just stabilize things that would be a great job.
Ed
Just like you I didn’t give two shits about politics and also didnt vote in the last election.
Now my ass is following campaign trails, reading reports on policies (half-assedly though) and giving a damn….
Just for that he has my undying support
He isn’t perfect, but he’s black, so close enough
Ed: That’s a good mindset to have going into the voting booth. While I do feel all sorts of way about this election, the history that is being made, it still says lot that him even running and being a “viable”candidate IS a big deal to begin with. He is inheriting a hot mess from the judgement of the Bush administration and that is a feat in itself.
One point he did stress yesterday which I appreciate is the idea of civic duty. Shoot, that civic duty could just be raising your kids properly.
JG* (14:01:05) :
I only ask so I can get real insight.
I realize that Obama has lots of plans, and big ones at that. And I realize that it will be difficult for him so I don’t expect it all. ITA JG*. My pastor (I think I’m one of the few SBPHers that isn’t not Christian) spoke on this very subject last month. Obama is not God and Obama is not the end all be all answer to this country’s problems. It might sound cliche but I think that he and his administration will be the catalyst toward change that gets the country moving in the right direction. I don’t think he can fix everything in 4 or 8 years but he can definately make improvements.
Good Morning everyone…
I think his speech last night was good. It was no different than any other political speech to me but it felt good to hear him speak of things that represent some of my personal ideals. I am tired of listening to these tires ass white men talk about stuff that 8 times out of 10 will affect me negatively.
The problem is that people are so tired of the current state of the nation that they are making looking at him as our savior. He isn’t going to accomplish a lot of things that he said he would last night, as most administrations don’t, but the difference is that people have set such high expectations of him that when he does do everything, they are going to tell him he failed and he was a bad president blah blah blah. People are going to want to see changes immediately and its not going to happen. There is nothing microwaveable about the problems we have.
“This is what I wanted though. Not to put Obama on a pedestal, but when you strip away the things that make him an individual he’s what I wanted in this position. - that’s the kind of experience I want to see…This means so much as far as I’m concerned.
I’m not voting for him just because he’s black but that makes it a whole hell of a lot easier. He has swag. (Swag in the white house~c’mon). Plus I like his baby hair. Its always laid perfectly. lol.
“Plus I like his baby hair. Its always laid perfectly. lol.”
Why?
Jesus, take me home.
“that civic duty could just be raising your kids properly”
@overit- I vote that this is majority of the nations duty. Much of what’s going on today is a direct result of this…
wow, can we talk about McCains VP pic? Gov Sarah Palin
Obama also gets me mad when it seems like he is refusing to acknowledge that he could be the first Black president. He almost said it last night, and then didn’t. All I want him to say is “I know I am not the typical shade of president, but I am the shit.” Or something to that effect. I know he knows he is Black, I am not accusing him of that, but I hate how he has to avoid mentioning it in any respect because of politics. I guess I am too much of a revolutionary. I would have voted for Huey Newton if I could.
He is desperate and trying to appeal to all of those idiotic Hillarybots.
ishouldbeworking: If I read that correctly, then I’m like you…. (Christian) and my pastor has been talking a lot about this too. Especially since people think he’s actually the AntiChrist. We had a convo that God wouldn’t do that to us black people. We’ve taken too many L’s in history. LOL I love Obama. I love what he represents, I love what he wants this country to be like even if it can’t happen. I love that as far as we can tell he loves his wife, and I love that it’s obvious that he loves his children. I love that he’s black because THAT’S the kind of Black men I know. They are everywhere! Just have to be the kind of black woman that has the vision to see them.
Wow.. went off on a tangent.
OMG!! I KNEW IT!! I knew he would pick her.. I just knew it.
I guess I am too much of a revolutionary.
LOL I think we all are…or as Jen made the point last night, basic logix is being treated as radical and crazy these days. The fact is Obama cannot place too much emphasis on what makes him different. He is focusing on his white side from “the heartland”, his grandfathers service in Patton’s army, his single mother who had to use food stamps. Can’t focus too much on the fam in Kenya.
LOL, I was laughing to myself thinking how many Kenyans will apply to come to the US claiming to be his cousin.
So I have fam in town today and will not be able to participate in the last post.
I just wanted to say hi, sniff sniff. See yall on DSL??
Oh, and I watched the speech at the Park last night…man…it will be the first and last time a club is so quiet you can drop a pin in there. It was SO inspiring to sit around with other young black professionals and just soak in the fabulousness that is Obamadom.
Beautiful.
I really hope and pray…. that the crazy HilBots do not fall for this trickery. I pray.
*logic
I am in total agreement with everyone regarding Obama’s speech last night. For me it was a historic moment. Then he started speaking about his policies and I for the most part was in agreement, until he said that in ten years we would no longer be dependent on foreign oil…..and as soon as he said it I yelled out “Nigga please not even if you were Chuck Norris”…Don’t get me wrong I am a Obama supporter but it is going to take a while before we develop the technology to become independent of foreign oil or oil period. I’m glad he has the foresight to get us off the oil pipe but some things are better left unsaid…he could have kept that.
In all I thought it was a great speach, one more observation, that little joke he tried to put in the “8 is enough” didn’t really go over that well or is it just me?
Damn 8th, just leave! GO! I’m so mad, I was supposed to be at the Park last night. Grrr!
Everytime I get upset with the Hillary supporters I just watch the South Park episode when Hilldog has a Snizz in her Snatch. Classic.
And can i also say…McCain is a dirty player…it is soooooo the obvious choice..damn that is nasty.
8th:
How are you just going to quit me because family is in town. What kind of shit is that?
Chris has posted the final post
“Nigger”. [/PSA] back to regular scheduled programming…
Sarah Palin as VP for the republicans thats going to make things hard for the dems. I’d like to think the HIll supporters are smarter then then to fall for this shit, but alot of them just wanted to see a woman in the white house period…. Now they can play that card.
Well now McCain can’t (although he will) attack Obama for not having experience. Neither does his running mate.
/off topic
My sister went to the Obama speech at Bronco’s stadium. So Jealous!
I too hate CNN nice read it was entertaining.
