For those who don’t know, a powwow is a Native American gathering centered on song, dance, and food typically taking place on the weekends. There are very few things I don’t enjoy about powwows. The food is delicious, unhealthy, and cheap (or, if I’m dancing, free), there are hot women EVERYWHERE, and you get to talk shit all day with a bunch of wild snarling hostile Indians.
But there is one fucking thing about powwows that I absolutely cannot stand: the inordinate number of black people claiming to be Cherokee.

Figure 1: My brother, after claiming to be Cherokee (note broken foot)
If you were to base your assumptions of all American slave-descended black people on those you met at a powwow, you would assume they all had the following in common:
- Dark skin
- A pulse
- Cherokee ancestry
It never fails that when I get done dancing, some fuckface gets all excited and approaches me bright-eyed and bushy tailed (if it’s a girl) or wannabe-cool and nonchalant (if it’s a guy) and tells me that they’re Cherokee as if it’s somehow special, even if it were true. YOU’RE AT A POWWOW, YOU FUCKING TARD! I’M NOT SURPRISED TO FIND INDIANS HERE! Maybe I’ll saunter over to Howard Homecoming this year and start telling all the black people I’m black. God fucking dammit.

Figure 2: “GEE! I WONDER IF THERE’LL BE BLACK PEOPLE HERE!!!”
For some reason, every single ‘Cherokee’ black person traces their Indian ancestry through a grandmother. I actually had a bet going at one point with another fancy dancer about who would hear the words “grandmother” and “Cherokee” uttered in the same sentence by black people the most. He won the bet, having heard it over 300 times in five fucking months. Though this trend seems to have died out a bit, in the late 90′s early 00′s it was VERY popular not only to say that your great-great-(to the nth power)-grandmother was Cherokee…but she was also a Cherokee PRINCESS.
Everytime someone utters the phrase “Cherokee Princess”, God sends ninjas to kill an Indian. That’s why there are so few of us left. The Cherokee Princess phenomenon got so bad that at one point a certain t-shirt became popular on the powwow circuit. The design of the t-shirt was a brothel called ‘The Cherokee Princess’ with pictures of white and black whores dressed as indian women running in and out. It remains the single most awesome thing I have ever seen.

Figure 3: Irony: Indian women portrayed as sex goddesses despite being notoriously prude
The only thing more annoying than the Cherokee epidemic is the one that’s slowly starting to displace it – the Blackfoot* epidemic. Since about 2004 or so, black people suddenly decided they didn’t want to be Cherokee anymore and instead started telling disinterested mixed indians like me that they’re Blackfoot.
Really? FUCKING REALLY, DUDE?!?!?!?!
At least large numbers of black people claiming Cherokee ancestry is historically and geographically plausible. But Blackfoot? The people from Montana and northwestern Canada where only about four black people have ever set foot in 500 years? FUCK THE FUCK OFF. You are more likely to be Martian than to be fucking Blackfoot.

Figure 4: He’s dark skinned, wears red/black/green, sports b-ball shoes, and clearly has an attitude problem. Marvin the Martian is blacker than Kunta Kinte.
Why is this something black people hate? Simple – this shit makes black people look stupid, and the part of me that’s black is very pissed off about our people looking stupid. Maybe you have indian ancestry, and maybe you don’t. Unless you’re actively involved in the culture, please shut the hell up about it. If someone wants to know, they will ask.
Imagine you’re in a step show and after your set some white-looking dude approaches you and says he’s 1/64th black. Pissed? Confused? Annoyed?
So are we.
* Not to be confused with the ‘Blackfeet’, who are blood-thirsty savages that will make love to your ten year old son and your smaller livestock.**
** This may or may not be true.
oh shit, First
FIRST!!!
damn…i wasn’t first at all…back to the post…
Okay…I am SOOO glad you did a post on this…my department that I work for at school (mentioned in comments section of the self-censorship post) brought Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. to campus and he went through how he traces blacks ancestry, etc. and he showed the clip of him on Oprah’s show and how she said “I am part Native American” and Dr. Gates laughed and talked about how common it is for Black people to wanna be mixed-especially with Cherokee (“good” hair, high cheekbones, beautfiful skin tone, etc,) but in reality a VERY SMALL percentage (he gave the % but I forget) actually have ANY Native blood in them at all! It was so funny because before he gave the stats and results, he asked the audience to raise their hands if they have Native blood, and almost every Black and some YTs did…he did Oprah’s test and she was found to be pure (minus the rapemaster’s blood) African!!!
It was funny cuz i hate with a passion when Black people claim to be Cherokee or mixed in general and it’s not true…just be happy being chocolate and nappy!
we don’t get this phenomenon in good ole blighty you can understand but we do get ‘egyptians’…
everyone is descended from an egyptian queen…. what the fucking fuckety fuck..
annoying as hell…
Yeah…
I hear “Cherokee” a lot. I know you’re for real when you say a tribe that isn’t Cherokee.
My friend is part Seminole. My family has Russian Jewish and Algonquin ancestry. But I wouldn’t go around claiming it. At the end of the day, I’m black, and happy to be so.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Yes, I remember this growing up!! All the damn light skinned bitches would ALWAYS claim they was Cherokee Indian. How about you spell Cherokee??
I HATED that.
I know I got all kinda stuff all mixed up in me. I think even chinese, but Im never claiming that.
all black people here will claim to be part jamacian this weekend with notting hill carnival…
chris.. a question… why cherokee anyway? did i miss something above?
I know people who think they’re part native american because they don’t grow facial hair.
@’London’
WHAT are you talking about?!
I’ve lived in London all my life and this is the first time i’ve heard anything of the sort! Egyptian?!
I know about 2 fully Egyptian natives but never in my life have i come across a black person claiming Egyptian heritage!
Its more common to hear the Carribean kids claiming Indian heritage (claims which actaully have more potential to be true)
i’m part Cherokee
Your brother got some tall-ass hair.
Gates does a show on PBS where he runs the DNA test on Black celebrities and other notables. Once a month, my mother calls me to announce who THOUGHT they were Cherokee (or from the Masai Tribes, if they claim to know their African roots) and how they immediately get played on national TV. In fact, a lot of them turn out to have more European roots than they thought. This is why I am afraid to take that test: “Actually Ms. Lemieux, you are 97% Angloid. You just have a really fabulous tan .”
I used to just pity Black people who told me they “have Indian up in them” because we are reaching so hard to have a cultural identity (thought they never DID anything with this knowledge). But it drives me really nuts from White people. I asked my late grandmother some questions about her family and when she started talking about some Swedish people and a Cherokee, I seriously considered just tellin folks she was Jewish.
im part Finnish
LMAO
I heart you.
This here post’s the truth. THE TRUTH!
I hate hearing about anybody’s United Nations ancestry (real or imagined) beyond that 1/4 point, and to me, it is only acceptable to announce it publicly if you are biracial. I will roll with you to the death about not claiming all this fucking ancestry you have no cultural connection to–especially when it is not physically apparent or even imaginable by observation.
I think Cherokee was very popular in my part of the world (Texas) in the 90′s because such ancestry was feasible. I haven’t heard it in a while, and I’m not sure if it is because I have substantially less contact with people who are uneducated enough to be comforted by developing false ancestry or if it is because it is a phenomenon decreasing in popularity.
Among middle class Black people, saying “You got Indian in yo faaaamily” is bound to get a pretty hearty snicker and a roll of the eyes. It is more common in middle class communities for 2520s to trace their love for organic foods and lack deodorant to a fictitious Cherokee ancestor from six generations back or attempt to take advantage of Affirmative Action programs because they allege to be 1/16th Indian. Both cases = tragic fucking fail.
I know someone that drives a Cherokee. They still black though.
I loved the part of Skip Gates’ “Black Lives” doc last year and the year before when he reports to each black celebrity that they have no Indian ancestry whatsoever, based on the results of the admixture tests they took. This after all except Oprah were like “yes, my grandmother’s grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee.” Oprah was the only one who straight up said “I have no white or Indian blood, I’m all black.” And that’s exactly waht her test showed, too, lol.
You are wrong for putting your brother on blast with his broke down foot.
You are more wrong for Figure 4.
You are just wrong in general, which is why I come on the daily.
Im part cherokee and creole. Im hot.
oooh jen, so right about texas!!! during my first year in texas, i was at school and a friend of mine told me she was part cherokee, then i blinked and about 12 more people bombarded me with the same story. *sigh* it’s ok to be just black y’all…
SORY BUT I AM BLACK FOOT INDIAN LOL. NOT THOUGH MY GRAND MATHER BUT MY MY GREAT GRAND FATHER HER FATHER. NOT SURE IF THATS CLOSE ENOUGH TO MEAN ANYTHING BUT YEHA i GOT SOM EIN ME . OH WELL, BUT I DONT SPORT IT UNLIKE SOME RETARDS MAINL Y WHITE PEOPLE.
I SEE MANY OF THEM PROCLAIMING THIS STATUS AND IT SICKENS ME, LIKE WHEN i WHITE PERSON SAYS YEAH I’M AFRICAN TOO YOU KNOW ( BORN IN SOUTH AFRICA) NO YOUR NOT AND YOU WONT EVER FEEL AFRICN WHEN YOU WALK THE STREETS LIKE I DO! ASS HOLE
Hey Jess, like I just said above, I remember Oprah saying that she KNEW she wasn’t anything but Negro. I remember T.D. Jakes talking that nonsense about being part Indian, meanwhile looking like an Ewe chieftain from Togo.
“…Affirmative Action programs because they allege to be 1/16th Indian. Both cases = tragic fucking fail.”
Reminds me of the time I went into the Morgan State Financial Aid office and asked about the “Minority Scholarship” and the lady looked at me like I was crazy…
… I should guess I should’ve known better.
@Not_Shaniqua: STOP TYPING IN ALL FUCKING CAPS.
Thank you
Well surely you will get someone who will post this…so I will do it.
Chris, waa waa waa, please dont forget that it is really possible that someone would have a descendant who was Cherokee (the only type of Indian in the world) because they were stolen from villages and sold off into slavery and cross bred with many of the slaves. My great great grandmother was indian and my grandfather was a tibetan sharecropper. I am living proof.
Duh. Your post is unfair and you suck at life. sniff sniff.
Scipio…maybe I was thinking of another celebrity, I coulda sworn was Oprah tho…anyway, still hilarious…and I so have a crush on Dr. Gates, he was so charming and nice-the 2520 staff thought he was pompous during our post-lecture dinner tho, go figure!
I definitely don’t practice but some of my family does. My fathers side is from MD. and related to Cherokee and Mohawk. They don’t really get involved with the culture though. My moms side is related to the Nottoway Indians and they are into it kinda heavy. My aunts and uncles take part in some of their ceremonies but I haven’t witnessed much. I tend to stick to my slave roots. I did do the knowledge on it since my moms family is from Southhampton County, VA and we are direct descendants of Nat Turner, who led the famous slave insurrection in 1831.
fast forward to the 1980′s when Willie lloyd Turner masterminded the largest prison breakout in U.S. history in Mecklenburg, VA, releasing the likes of Lem Tuggle and the notorious Briley Brothers. Not a particularly proud moment in history, but it did interest me that records indicate a severe storm the night Nat Turner was hung and I remember a severe storm the night Willie Turner was electrocuted by the state of VA.
but I digress.. I usually find that people think of it as kind of a romantical notion of being affiliated with cultures from a different era, as it fuels their vanity. Of course its ignorant. Am I guilty of the same behavior? Yup. Although I’ll try to justify it by showing how I interact with my family, visit the farm, and Nat Turners cave. But people who aren’t actively participating in their cultural history have even less reason to try to relate…. so yeah they need to shut the hell up.
I think it was Tina Turner who was told all her life that she had injun in her family, and the Doctor was like, “No”…
…and she just stared at him.
“Hey girl, do you have Indian in you? Do you want some?”
I am just Cuban and Black. As far as I know. Another real common trend in the Latino community is for Puerto Ricans to claim that they are Taino. I hate to tell you, but the Tainos were completely eradicated by the conquistedores so the likelihood of this is fairly nonexistent.
How about if I claim some Lakota? I know we have some mexican roots in my family but I only took to mentioning it when the illegal immigration thing became big. The fucked up part…I still can’t explain my Jewish last name…but I have figured out a way to put it to good use.
First and middle initial, last name and taking some bass out my voice over the phone.
PRAISE GOD, EDUMACATED! You too are the truth.
The Dominicans are even worse about the Taino shit.
I have said it once, and I will say it again. I could EASILY pass for a Nigerian. 99% of the slave rape genes were recessive in my person. So how come when I lived in the Bronx, Dominicans STAYED trying to argue me down about my ancestry.
Apparently, despite the fact that I look 102% Negroid with a 2% margin of error (thank you, Uncle Ruckus), I am CLEARLY Taino because of the undertones of my skin. NEGROES (yes, Dominicans, I called you BLACK), PLEEEEASE.
I ain’t no damn Taino, and you ain’t, either.
I know that I had some 1260′s in my ancestry (therefore, I know I have 2520s in my bloodline too) as well as Native Americans. Hell, my last name is the same as some 2520 sportscaster down in Australia (and a town in southern VA off I-85 too).
However, at the end of the day, I’s still a knee-grow. People just can’t be happy with who they are.
But f’rill though, this basically comes from people not wanting to acknowledge the fact that most of our non-African blood (and there is plenty of that) was the result of white rape during slavery. That was too painful for folks. My grandmother used to tell my aunt when she was little to tell kids at school that she was part Indian. Nonsense.
Two weekends ago at my family reunion in Virginia we’re sitting around looking at old family photos and another aunt looks at a picture of my great-great grandfather. She’s kind of dippy and she goes to my mother “Oh, look at Grandpa John, can’t you see the Indian in him?” My mother, hip to the mindfuck that this represents for the Black community in general, simply replies “no, he just looks like an old white man to me.” My aunt simply got quiet and moved on to the next picture.
For some reason, after reading this post, the “Saved by the Bell” episode when Zack Morris discovers he’s an Indian popped in my head. It was a big ol’ ball of hot corny mess. I mean, “Running Zack”?!
Yeah, the Dominicans and some Puerto Ricans are the worst with that Taino stuff, the Spanish killed damn near all of them if they weren’t murdered they died of syphillis after being raped by Christopher Columbus himself.
The only difference between Dominicans and Haitians is the language…
LOL about the Zack Morris story. Isn’t the guy that played him half-indonesian anyhow?
Edumucated,
A friend of mine who is PR and Black and currently studying in Cuba was saying what you just said. She said that PRs have this unfounded love affair with the Tainos and Boricua Indians, but that Cubans are generally more realistic about the lack of real Indian ancestry for folks there.
My friend asked my history teacher thet once. She was like “why is every black person Cheeroke? Was there a time in out history when the two races banded togetter and just decided to have sex?”
The whole class lol’d for like 5 minuetes. I can actually say I’m part carrib indian since my mom is, unlike everyone else where you have to go back 15 generations. haaha
RLLL, yeah, Zach is Dutch and Indonesian (that’s a fairly common mix, actually.)
The only difference between Dominicans and Haitians is the language…
We have a Dominican and a Haitian that work here at my job. Both of them are black, but no surprise to me, they get along like muslims and pork.
@ Chris
Wondering if you ever go to the joint in Bmore at Patterson Park. My moms used to take me back in the day when they had it downtown, and then they started moving it (Like they did Afram). I just got hip to it again and went last summer.
Oprah claimed that she was a Zulu. Which considering that the slave trade was in West Africa and not Southern Africa was highly unlikely. And sure enough Skip told her she was NOT Zulu, which was funny as heck! Lol
@Amadeo – About your Jewish last name. There are a lot of White southerners that have Jewish sounding names that aren’t actually Jewish, like Osteen, so that may be the case with your last name if you are a descendant of African Americans who were enslaved.
Omar: Sort of lol.
Scipio: I am not really sure why Boricuas and Dominicanos are so set on being indigenous. I think for Cubans, at least, part of the reason we can embrace our Afro history so easily is the fact that the slave trade didn’t even end until 1886, not to mention all the racial problems that followed.
@ Monie
How about Goldsboro?
The only reason Black folk claim to be Indian is because they can lie and tell people that it isn’t a perm or chemicals, it’s ‘good hair’…even though they’re as dark as my Liberian self.
Rev, what the hell is a 1260?
Yeah, Oprah’s ignant ass did say she thought she was from South Africa. Has she ever read a book about the slave trade?
@Amadeo – I’m not sure about that particular name but it could be one of those southern Jewish sounding names.
I haven’t heard the cherokee princess bit yet….lol
1260 is a 1/2 2520. AKA, Mulatto, biracial, etc.
LMAO! @ 1260.
@yonnie – if she read it, it would have been on the book club… when y’all gonna learn that oprah don’t have your best interest in mind or heart at all… she about that paper!
Is this 1260 thing some old census code or something? I’ve never heard of any of this.
Damn, if I had a nickel for everytime the phrase, “Ooooh, she got Indian up in her” was said when I was in grammar schol when someone saw a girl with long, straight hair I’d be Cindy McCain rich. I remember one time someone said that to a girl with long straight hair and this other girl gave the long, straight hair girl the stink eye and was all, “Naw, she got perm up in her!!” From that very moment, the stink eye girl became one of my best friends.
I think that some Black people claim Native ancestry because we are taught that everything Black is bad. So if you are part Native American then maybe you aren’t 100% bad.
Also it may not be the fault of the individual person, thinking they are part Native American, since families tend to pass these stories of ‘other’ ancestry down. ‘My grandmother told me we are part Lakota Sioux’, etc.
lol @ gabriel…it all boils down to self-hatred, we are force-fed images of beauty, that, aside from the overly sexualized big hips, legs and asses being the only “acceptably idolized” aspects of african beauty [why is okay to have a Black ass but not a Black face?!], consist of light skin, thinner, wavy, straighter hair, narrow noses, high cheekbones, etc….i see claiming roots of being Native is less painful for Black Americans, as someone said, while Blacks may have these “fair” phenotypes, it is less heart-wrenching to claim that they are attributed to Natives, another targeted minority, rather than the blood of a rapemaster OR as gabriel said, some females relax, lengthen or whatever their hair and some use skin lightener to aspire to these ideals of beauty that for Blacks seem to be somewhat unattainable…another reasoning is the culture, while Natives also had a lot of who they are stripped away from them by whites, they still have way more of a connection to their traditions and history…the only way black americans can even begin to embrace a culture that was stripped away and burned is to pay Dr. Gates big bucks to trace their bloodline…this is definitely a deeper, more painfully psychological issue than it has been treated with for years….
AHAHAHA @ 1260. This NEEDS to be made official, now.
@Chris – Your brother looks like Derek Jeter.
yeah, Cheekie, that was def a catchphrase in elem. school. urrybody had indian in them.
whenever we had May Day, you had to rep your culture, and my cousins and i would always be the “regulars” and that felt so awkward. it wasnt until i had a heart to heart with my father a year ago that the whole “we part native” thing came up. they have a picture with my great-grandmother in full dress.
i asked my mother about that side of the fam, and my grandmother responded, “we plain old niggas.” i love my granma
Someone just sent this to me. Take about 10 minutes out of your day to watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdk4v11U4tQ What the fuck is wrong with British people?
dying at figures 1 and 4…
lol it’s times like this that i’m happy my black ass is african. what the fuck are you going to claim except sierra leone motherfuckers?!
although as desperate times call for desperate measures, i have heard the following garbage come out of one of my people’s mouths:
chick: “i’m half nigerian, half british and half american”
Me: “…..trick, you can’t be 3 halves. did you miss arithmetic class in primary school or are you an alien or some shit?” *smh*
@edumacated
Darkie day? wow
white dude about darkie day-”yeah I don’t think they should sing ‘gone where the dead niggers go’.
um u think
Yea I am Choctaw on my father’s side and when I was younger I went to the pow wow’s and camps etc (exposed to everything black, Indian and in between) Hence the curly natural hair as mentioned in previous post.
BUT…the thing that pissed me off was in high school when it was time to apply for college and scholarships how all the White Kids at my private school would suddenly get in touch with their ancestral roots and suddenly be part Cherokee, Blackfoot, Comanche or what ever flavor was in at that time in hopes of being able to scrape up some extra scholarship money so they could live off campus or get a new car or for some other equally nauseating reason. That’s the kind of stuff this black person hates.
@ edumucated -
yeah that shit doesn’t surprise me. the british aren’t big on political correctness. i think owning 2/3 of the globe up until 50 years ago got to their heads, and it hasn’t hit them all they have are two islands with appallingly bad weather and people with terrible teeth who don’t bathe.
Oh yea and I am dark and proud 2 =0)
i know folks are all sorts of mixtures these days and fuck it, people can be whoever they want to be, but dammit, what is so HORRIBLE about being just BLACK if that is what you are? i am black, i’m fine with it. i would love to do a dna geneology one day, but i’m still BLACK and happy about it…
yea…this post had to be done…surprise it took so long.
One of my favorite ZNH quotes : “I am colored but I offer nothing in the way of extenuating circumstances except the fact that I am the only Negro in the United States whose grandfather on the mother’s side was not an Indian chief.”
IA with Jen’s post ….and it disturbs me to hear a black person claim 1001 parts of their heritages with imaginary fractions and not mention african once. This makes my saliva dry up/
This is nothing new with us black people. From the beginning of time we’ve always been more then happy to list off all the non-black genes we carry ” Oh yeah I’m part, Dutch, Irish, Spanish, but my dad was Black” BARF. It’s all in the hopes to try to be belong I guess and in the end us trying to seperate from the one thing we clearly are and clearly seen as BLACK, and there ain’t nothing wrong with that!
take the s of heritage..my brain is melting. i scrubbed in on a hysterectomy this morning for randomness sake.
I’m Half Negro , quarter African-American and a quarter colored…
Yet people still refer to me as black, what is up with that?
@puff. Same here, AFRICAN.
saturday is the caribbean festival in boston…i will plan on being jamaican or trinidadian…whichever one has the prettiest costumes…then i will be black again on sunday…;)
why do people say they are Cuban and black or PR and black? Am I in the twilight zone? Does nobody else stumble over that when reading a sentence?
Its like saying Im Nigerian and black or Im a Sengalese and black? I sooo hate pseudo-races. It will never mean. Soon people will start saying they are Afro-AMerican and black. I will die.
I’m Pangean.
I’m part Cheekie.
What are these Londoners doing on this blog? How come in Blogsphere Londoners are all over American websites. You could be forgiven for thinking that there are five million black In England?
http://stuffgirlslike.wordpress.com
@ ninasimone – Because there are White/ Spanish Cubans and Puerto Ricans as well as Black.
Nina:
I am Afro-Cuban. If people say they are Cuban and black it is the same thing. It is to differentiate between the Cuban Spaniards (read YT), and those who claim indigenous roots. If you look at Cuba’s history post slavery, there were three classes, white, mulatto and moreno. For a Cuban to say they are Cuban and black is just implying that they are the descendants of the slaves and not from a direct lineage to the conquistadores (other than through rape).
@NINASIMONE
Race is one thing but culture is another to say one is Cuban and Black means they do have a unique cultural background one that would be different from someone with a Jamacian background, and yes both would have black skin. Race is just the skin deep part its a person culture that actually shapes you.
I’m a Sexual Chocolate American
ninasimone-in reality, a lot of Latinos don’t think PR, Cuban & Dominican, etc.=Black…I know that in a lot of these countries, just as in the U.S. Black is seen as inferior and there is a HUGE variation in skin tones and features…and in U.S., Latino Culture does NOT=Black Culture, there may be similarities, but there are differences that each group likes to realize…why? I don’t know, maybe things are different on the East Coast and Florida (?) but I live in the Midwest and my mother is PR and my father is Black (majority blood) and to them, they are not the same race or culture, altough my mother, being raised by a Black stepfather sometimes says she is Black…my two cents
@amadeo- hahahaha! pangean!
i once waited tables on a friday night with a heavy Jamaican accent… and my white guests loved it! i made a lot more money that night than my southern ass usually walks away with… coincidence?… does that make me a bad person?
“In fact, a lot of them turn out to have more European roots than they thought. This is why I am afraid to take that test: “Actually Ms. Lemieux, you are 97% Angloid. You just have a really fabulous tan .””
I just want to address this point even though it is a little off subject. I am afraid of this, too. Genes are a funny thing. I have African features, but people always ask me about my child’s racial background because she doesn’t have even 1/4 of my coloring and has loosely curled hair. I pretty much say “My baby is Black and Blacker, so get out my damn face.”
I’m scared to shake the family tree (as Paul Mooney so eloquently put it) because I’m afraid more 2520s than I’d like might fall out.
Ninsimone, it’s not that deep. It just means that one parent is from one culture, in teh case of my friend, PR, and the other parent is Af. American (well actually, her father is Jamaican and Jewish, but why complicate things?)
You may be getting tripped up by the fact that folks frequently say Black when what they really mean is just Af. American. We all know this is not techically correct, because all people descended from the recent African diaspora (the last 500 years or so – not teh human outmigration from Africa 100,000 years ago) are black. But here, in the US, Black just means Af. American.
Most Latinos will not say they are Black because the differences, rather than the similarities, between African-Americans and Afro-Latinos are often highlighted. This issue was discussed in the comments of a previous post. Although both of my parents are Cuban immigrants and I know my Cuban history. I grew up in chocolate city in fucking Anacostia. Being a dark motherfucker, as well as living in a city with no Caribbeans. I am fairly in touch with Black culture in the US.
I’s nigra!
I don’t think there is anything wrong with paying homage to your other backgrounds just as long as you respect the black in you equally. My mother and father are from Guyana, My mother is Chinese and Portuguese ( yes meaning my grandfather was 100% Chinese and my Grandmother was 100% Portuguese) my dad is black. I am black, and I thats what I am if asked, this angers my mother because she feels like I don’t pay respect to her genetic contribution. Fact of the matter is, is that thats how society sees me, thats how I appear, and that’s how I see myself.
Black Americans and immigrant blacks do not have the same culture, and I understand why people differentiate the two when they talk about their backgrounds.
Why are people not claiming to be part Mexican, Latino? why Black people think they are better than Latinos in a way.
You see Being part cherokee gives you a sense that this is your land, you have a sense of legitimacy.
Edumucated,
Once you’re well versed in the history of the Big Chair, you can’t really go back to whatever heritage you came from. If you’re part of the diaspora at all, you’re pretty much Af. American whether you like it or not. j/k
Defiant:
Do you think it’s more important to see yourself as what society sees or what you know is there? Not out of disrespect, but I have had issues with that myself…my mother is a dark PR and my father is a light Afr-Am (his father is Black, Japanese and white…weird huh?) so I usually say I’m black, but when topics of race and culture come up I mention the different layers…it’s still slightly confusing because I think society sees a Black woman, but I get that “what are you” thing from blacks and whites all the time…jeez, now i feel like confused ass Mariah Carey Cannon
They’re actually offering a class on tracing your genes at the Brooklyn Public Library this saturday for NY heads.
yea, Ya’ll I get why people say it and and I am familiar with that history.
Monie: LOL! Girl, I understand that. I got a brain:-) ..but no that wasnt my confusion… it goes along with what JessAKA Rabbit is saying here
“ninasimone-in reality, a lot of Latinos don’t think PR, Cuban & Dominican, etc.=Black”
this is what is disturbing to me. it seems that sometimes the people saying they are Black and whatever are not aware of the distinctions or differences between culture, nationality and “race”.
In my experience, people dont usually mean culture and race when they say they are PR and black. They seem to think there is a Cuban race or PR race or you know. WHich just messes with my brain cells something terrible
Im just saying that I have a critical ear and eye for racial/cultural descriptions and that one irks me.
thanks yall
I just realized folks not familiar withe Soufees, or the Big Chair totally won’t get my last comment, and will overlook the j/k I put at the end of it.
Scipio: lol That is not funny at all. Actually my parents came over in 1980 as part of the Mariel Boatlift. How they ended up in Anacostia I have no idea. How my mother still does not speak English, I don’t understand that either.
It is ok Scipio, I understood it. That is all that matters. That big useless fucking chair.
Who ever it was that asked what Londoners were doing on an esssentially American blog….it’s because the blogging thing hasn’t really caught on over here. Most people are satisfied with IM’ing, which im not really a fan of.
Secondly, with refrence to the whole ‘Darkie Day’ event, considering the location, it’s hardly suprising. London itself is a very metropolitan city where you’ll find a multitude of classes and races living together (sometimes for the better, sometimes not). With the exception of other major cities eg Birmingham, the surrounding small towns eg Cornwall, are home to possibly the most ignorant, uneducated people you will ever come across in your life( and after life)
They are a few decades, maybe even centuries behind when it comes to anything from technology to fashion to politics and race relations.
For this reason, im not offended by events like ‘darkie day’. It evokes another sentiment: Disgust.
I find it frightening that people are still so backwards in this day and age. They are the UK’s very own hillbillies.
@stuffgirlslike –
I think it’s just easier to claim ‘i have indian in my family’ than latino because it’s more believable. You can say how your slave grandma hooked up with the cherokee chief way back in the day, but since latinos have only been on the scene here for so long, u might catch a few more side eyes w/o some physical ‘evidence’.
“Ninsimone, it’s not that deep”
I disagree. I find IRL and online people are very confused about the differences. Maybe I am building a semantics mountain out a molehill but I find it all very interesting. Im used to an academic environment where people carefully delineate what they mean when they describe who they are—cuz Im always curious and love to hear about someone’s history. It justs takes an extra word or two to say what you mean. Thats no biggie and it lets the reader know that you are not under the impression that Cubans cant be black and must say you are Cuban AND black. See what I saying?
“How my mother still does not speak English, I don’t understand that either.”
has she ever wanted to learn? tried? Maybe she feels better connected to her history/culture by not doing so?
Nina:
If someone says they are Cuban AND Black, there is probably a good chance they are referring to being AA and Cuban (Moreno or otherwise). I misread you earlier I think.
Nina:
I don’t think its that she feels particularly connected to being Cuban. It is not like we can go back there and see her family. I think she is just happy speaking spanish. She speaks enough english that she could get by, but she is just happy speaking spanish.
@JessRabbit
). But I do see myself as black not just because society sees me that way, but because I can better identify with what it is to be black within this society.
I hear you on the race confusion before any sort of racial identity I am Darryl Spencer first ( to all the hot women out there look me up on facebook if you’re in the Toronto Canada area
“If someone says they are Cuban AND Black, there is probably a good chance they are referring to being AA and Cuban (Moreno or otherwise). I misread you earlier I think.”
oh ok i get it
“she is just happy speaking spanish.”
gotcha
It’s obvious from looking at my light-skin, straight-hair self that I have a whole lot of something other than black in roots. When asked what I am, I always answer (indignantly), “I’m BLACK.”
White people and Latinos, especially, want to add something to my mix. “You’ve go to be part: white, Latin, Indian…” “Nope, I’m just plain black.” That ticks people off. They can’t imagine that I’d want to be just black. Having mixed roots would make me more acceptable?
As for Jewish names in the south: Many German and Swiss names sound Jewish. The difference is in the spelling. ZimmermanN is German. Zimmerman with one N is Jewish. The names probably just got misspelled along the way.
ninasimone – Okay, sorry I misunderstood.
On another but related note; if I were a Boricua or Cuban or any person having a culture originating from a Spanish speaking country I’d be pissed if someone called me a Hispanic. That is such an annoying term; it’s like saying you have no culture so we are going to lump all of you darn Spanish speakers in one big meaningless category.
Darkie Day reminds me of Zwarte Piet, the blackfaced Dutch slave that follows around Santa Claus, and America’s infamous Ghetto Parties.
So many people do say thEYRE cherokee. My fav part =
everytime someone claims to be cherokee, god sends ninjas to kill an indian…lol cant ask for me
- http://www.anythingblack.net/forums
cleen..
i have never heard of claim any indian heritage..
i always hear egypt is the motherland… we are descended from kings/queens and all that bullshit…
ninasimone – PLEASE!
I visited Hispania during Spring Break my junior year of college, and it was a lovely, colorful place?
“we are descended from kings/queens and all that bullshit…”
Lol..More like our ancestors were sold by Kings and Queens…There is a lot of mythology with regard to where we, African Americans, come from and who we are. That’s what happens when your true history is stolen or lost.
I’m mixed with a variety of BLACK!
And I’m happy to say that I’ve never had Indian in me genetically or sexually.
“More like our ancestors were sold by Kings and Queens
I co-sign on this one!
LOL at this. I don’t tell people about my Indianness unless they point blank ask what I’m mixed with. Otherwise I just say I’m black and leave it at that.
I laughed out loud though with the “my grandmother is Cherokee” crap. My grandmother was, in fact, Cherokee so I personally find it hilarious when those who quite clearly are NOT mixed at all claim some Indian ancestry as though that makes them better than everyone else. No it doesn’t. All it means is your ancestors got busy with people who didn’t look like them.
@London….
I see what you mean, are you reffering to when people have those ‘african intellectual’ debates and say that black people established the first eductional instititions, built the pyramids etc and then the caucasions came and stole it?
I was reffering to everyday conversations with people whose parents are from Trinidad, Jamaica etc.
They’re always saying stuff like ‘my Grandma/ Great whatever is Indian (East Indian, I think Americans call it Red Dot) and thats why hair is straight/ skin is red/ nose is straight/ or insert any other non-black phenotype here, even if it isnt traditionally attributed to Indian heritage!
@ Tomatohead…
I was thinkin the same thing…. all it means is that either there was some serious cross- cultral ho activities going on during that time frame or somebody’s lying!!
Personally I think 90% of the Black people who claim Indian heritage of bullshitting themselves and have self hate issues going on. What’s wrong with just being Black? I suppose the less Black you are the better right? Black and White people (Bc those crackas also love to talk about their pseudo indian roots) shouldn’t claim Indian heritage unless they are actively part of that culture. That’s like me claiming to be French or German. Yes I have a great grandfather who was German and some French relatives but am I part of that culture? NO.
I didn’t realize how many mixed folk there are on here. I would strongly recommend you all read Mixed: My Life In Black and White by Angela Nissel. She is an amazing and funny writer. Both her books are hilarious. The Broke Diaries is great for anyone who is in school or recently out and Mixed is great for anyone. lol These should at least help you pass the time until SBPH book comes out.
I couldnt stand Tiger Woods reply when the media asked him what race he is. “Well, Im 1/8th this, 1/16th Indian, 1/38th black, 2/3 that…..” w.t.f. Negro, at the end of the day you black.
stuff girls like..
What are these Londoners doing on this blog? How come in Blogsphere Londoners are all over American websites. You could be forgiven for thinking that there are five million black In England?
?????
been coming here and commenting a while… so please do me a favour & fuck off..
Once again, me and Muse are on the same page.
Edumacated, I just procrastinated YESTERDAY by reading excerpts from both of those books. They seem like they would both be cute, light reads for a short plane trip.
Because I think 90-98% of the Native American population was murdered/ genocide, its impossible for the majority of African Americans to have that linage. My great-grandmother claims, as so many older African Americans do, that she has “Indian in her blood”; however, I know that is not true. Her light skin, straight hair, and high cheek bones are the result of her I understood that claiming another race is just another symptom of self-hatred we all share in the community. High cheek bones are an African trait, so is having less hair all over the body. Most other races are hairy (European especially). If you have these traits, most likely it came from Africa. I saw this model/ video girl on the cover of a magazine with beautiful dark skin, hourglass shape with a round ass claiming to be everything in the world except Black. We do that shit all the time and it pisses me off. Most Black people don’t even want to be considered the same race as Africans, but love to say that they’re Spanish and Italian, and “Indian” (ignorantly meaning Native American). I know that its difficult to exactly pin point whether your ancestors came from Ghana or South Africa, but its understood that most of our ancestors originated from West Africa. And there are genetic tests that can pin point your African lineage. Also, Because of self- hatred, its better to say that you’re not like the other niggers, but you’re special and better because you’re multiracial. White people will claim all types of EUROPEAN lineages, but do not continuously lie about being part African/ part Asian/ pat non-european.
Edumacated: I can’t speak for Puerto Ricans, but the reason why most Dominicans don’t self-identify as black is because to Dominicans black = Haitian. It started when Haitians took over DR shortly after they gained their independence from France. However, things got so bad that we had to reannex DR to Spain in order to get Haiti off of our backs. Add to that years of intense anti-Haitian propaganda in an attempt to foster Dominican nationalism (that ultimately led to a “final solution”-esque extermination attempt on every Haitian living in DR at the time) and there you go.
Now about the topic at hand: the only indigenous ancestry I know of is a VERY distant black Seminole on my father’s side who fled to DR after Florida was taken by the English (but that’s at least seven generations back). But I would be a damn fool to walk around claiming it. As far as I’m concerned, I’m just Dominican, Cuban and Samoan (my dad is Dominican and my mom is 1/2 Cuban and 1/2 Samoan).
Someone asked the question of why is it that “Cherokee” is the most claimed indigenous ancestry among blacks? It might have something to do with the fact that of all the indigenous tribes who owned African slaves (usually given to them by the English or even the Spanish or French), Cherokee owned the most.
cleen..
never heard of this red dot thing.. must ask my mother…
i do hear the ‘coolie hair’ ‘ nice hair’ expressions all the time though…
tomatohead
cannot believe people straight up ask ‘what are you mixed with?’ so rude..
the other one i have seen on here is ‘what are you?’
i mean.. when is that ok?
Marcus: You are preaching to the choir. I am very familiar as to the history of Haiti and the DR.
Tomato, co-sign 100%
w.t.f. Negro, at the end of the day you black.
Yeah, but those big ass teeth he has sure are Asian. Wasn’t there a joke about him “going down on a woman and giving her a hysterectomy”?
Edumucated – I heard about the Broke Diaries a while ago and meant to read it but forgot about it, thanks for the reminder….
Oh yeah, and Traci Bingham is a stupid hoe. She’s always talking about how she is everything BUT black. I hear that is news to her family back in Boston.
Reverend, such language, oh my…..
@ Quiet Storm
Tiger Woods has issues with being “black”. To me, he looked more Asian than anything else but someone pointed out to me that old, racist white men in golf would just see and classify him as black.
To me, he looked more Asian than anything else but someone pointed out to me that old, racist white men in golf would just see and classify him as black.
Fuzzy Zoeller let him know, didn’t he?
@Amadeo
The Jewish last names can also be traced to Jewish slave owners. Yeah, you heard me right–Jews owned slaves, especially in the the South, and they definitely financed and owned slave ships to the New World (all of the Americas and the Caribbean). There are public records of these if you want to check them.
You can look here, too, even though the site seems biased. But the facts are facts.
http://www.rense.com/general76/ssje.htm
Jewish history in America is long and rich–many Jews came here in the 1500-1800s, and they were in government and made public policy. This was especially the case in the South. Keep in mind that during the 16th-20th century, Jews AND Christians from Europe were colonizers and both benefited financially.

Where are all the “regular Blacks”? Surely I am not the only one. I know my people are pretty bad off in America, but more of us than three or four have to be frequenting this website.
P.S. I think a lot of the self-proclamations of non-Black ancestry are rooted in the fact most people don’t understand that Black Americans are a somewhat multiracial people, like most Blacks in this hemisphere. When people talk about their white, Chinese and Indian great great grandparents, I wonder if they realize that pretty much everybody Black they see has a similar background.
@Monie:
Yeah, I know. But Traci Bingham and her self-hating issues can go eat a dick as far as I’m concerned. She is the ultimate in FAIL.
I don’t know about everywhere else, but the PRs in NY pretty much get the picture. Abuela might not, but the younger ppl do.
I crack up thinking about Tiger Woods, a successful multi-millionaire (soon to be billionaire) marrying a nanny. Lmaoooo. Talk about low self-esteem.
Finding a Tanisha Rodriquez isn’t as strange as you’d think, here in NY.
———————
@Jen – Regla Black right here!
b4prez, I am going to have to disagree with you on that one. New Yoricans fit into the hip hop culture because of their involvement in the very beginning, but you would be very hard pressed to find a Puerto Rican who actually claimed to just be black. They are Boricua or Taino before they are Black.
London: You’d seriously be surprised. Most non-African Americans just assume I’m black and move on but Black people…jesus. Almost every black person I’ve met has, at one time or another, asked me what I’m mixed with. And I tell them and such, but it’s just weird. I’m like, I look black, what difference does it make what I’m mixed with?
My sisters on the other hand…the younger one looks white with a tan and nappy red hair and the older one looks like a straight up Cherokee-wide face, big, flat eyes, strong nose and thick as all hell hair.
My family is odd looking to say the least…I find it easier than them because I just look black and can say I’m black. They get all the shit from other people about beig “mixed”.
Rev – I agree Traci seems pretty lost. I’ve only seen her on that reality show that came on VH1 and she seemed pretty miserable.
My personal pet peeves are Caribbean trying to pretend that they are better than African Americans. My dad’s side of the family is from Jamaica and Martinique. Unfortunately some of those Negros think that they are better than African Americans because they work harder and have “culture.” These people always seem to forget that the slave ships stopped in the Carribean first.
Jen, did you not see my comment about being “plain old nigga”?
i’ve always made the claim that being Black means that your were bastardized by some other culture somewhere along the line. i don’t know anything about my great-grandmother, and my father and aunties don’t practice the culture, so really, my whole family is just regular black.
i can see why people want to be associated with something other than black because being black has such negative cultural connotations. claiming to be something else means you have the chance to be apart of something with deep rooted traditions and beliefs, instead of being apart of a culture that had to adopt someone else’s beliefs. this is not my viewpoint personally, but i am astute enough to see what triggers it.
Finding a Tanisha Rodriquez isn’t as strange as you’d think, here in NY.
Exactly. Caribbean Latinos are known for their African heritage. Now when when ya’ll find a Soon-Yi Jenkins or Shaniqua Silverstein or Booshietta Ming or Logan Nahasapeemapetilon, then we’ll talk. LOL
When 2520s ask a friend of mine what shes mixed with she says, “I don’t know, the slave owners didn’t really share that information.” That is usually the end of the conversation.
Muse – “What’s wrong with just being Black?”
Bingo!! The problem lies smack dab within this terrific question you’ve posed, Muse. The very reason why our sistas/brothas are so quick to add something like “I gots Indian all up in my family!” or “My great-great-great-great-great-grandmother was White!” (No shit Captain Obvious, and you’re NOT special!) in order to make themselves something “more” than Black. Because, somehow, that’s makes them better in their eyes. Because it seems to many of my Black family in this world, just being Black ain’t enough. Dagnabbit!
I am Half Costa Rican and half American however I am all black.
I grew up in NY (Queens) and I really don’t remember us making too many distictions about Black vs. Puerto Rican/ Cuban, etc, unless it was about food.
Jen, aren’t you Creole? that ain’t regla black to me! lol
@ Jen, what’s wrong? You’re “please” scared me, lol
“Lol..More like our ancestors were sold by Kings and Queens”
You are fabulous for saying this. It makes the TAST no less tragic and deplorable to admit that the vast majority if not all of the enslaved Africans were normal everyday people who got caught in some powerful people’s mess. I understand why folks say that but yea.
oh and I am regla black too.
Monie:
I think that is really interesting because most Latinos I know from New York definitely make that distinction. In fact, most Latinos I know are super racist towards African-Americans. They will have nothing against me because I am Afro-Latino, but according to them African-Americans are selfcentered and arrogant and ignorant and the list continues. Once again, something I don’t get.
I hate when people claim other cultures because they think being Black and proud isn’t enough, however, it also annoys me when people ignore every other part of what makes them who they are genetically just because others will simply see a Black person. That’s THIER problem and THIER ignorance. If you have a parent who is half something or another, then shit, if someone asks you about your genetic make-up, why is it wrong to state the facts proudly? Everything you are makes you everything you are. Now when you start getting to the 1/8′s and shit like that…just go sit your ass down.
NEVER be ashamed to acknowledge the parts that make you…you. If you aren’t Black enough OR mixed enough for someone…why you fucking with them anyway?
“My personal pet peeves are Caribbean trying to pretend that they are better than African Americans. My dad’s side of the family is from Jamaica and Martinique. Unfortunately some of those Negros think that they are better than African Americans because they work harder and have “culture.” These people always seem to forget that the slave ships stopped in the Carribean first.”
I’ve seen this but I didn’t think it was that serious because each Island thinks it is better than the others. Trini’s think they are better than Jamaicans and Bajans think they are better than Bahamians; but there wasn’t really any malice just kind of competitive.
@muse – Ditto! I hate when Caribbeans and Africans act like they’re better than AAs. I wish sum1 would let the caribbeans know that they just got dropped off first.
@edumucated – I didn’t mean that they’d just call themselves black. I was just saying that they get the picture that we’re pretty much in the same playing field, unlike Dominicans, Mexicans, and S. Americans (not many Cubans in NY).
Hello, god. Its me ninasimone. Thanks for letting me know that there are people who share my thoughts and that not everyone is clinically insane.
THis Ghanaian guy asked me where I was from…and when I said that so far I am still in Louisiana in terms of uncovering information..he said “you’re probably Haitian”……and it may well be that my people stopped there first but that still does not answer the question! They came from somewhere too. Black folk did not fall out the sky.
Oh, the stories my family in South Florida have about West Indians talking shit about AA’s (in general) all the time…
Everytime I go to Miami, I feel like a riot could pop off in a New York minute with all the ethnic tension down there.
Cubans tend to think they are on a better playing field than everyone else. Cubans tend to have a much easier time being naturalized (Wet foot, dry foot), and often are very very light. Cubans, like S. Americans, often look down on other Latinos. I get what you are saying though.
@edumucated – I’ll be the first to say that outside of the PRs, the Latinos are very anti-black.
For all the Blacks that claim to be this percent Norwegian or that percent Chinese; when the cop pulls you over explain to them about your mixed heritage and let us know how that works out for you.
I’m not gonna lie: I did not read through the comments but just scanned them because I don’t really care about hearing the ethnic breakground of every commenter… Not that it’s unimportant, it’s just that I don’t really care. For example, my maternal family has traced its ancestry to Watusi, Algonquin and Irish blood. Dad’s side has not done it’s research…. See how much you care about that?
However, I did go to law school with this broad who claimed to be Blackfoot Indian. She said that she was born in a teepee in Montana. This trick knew *NOTHING* about the culture and just used her so-called Native status to explain why other Black people “hated” on her. Yeah. We hated on her because she was a lying ass, manipulative, shit-talker, rumor-monger with absolutely no sense of identity, yet wanting to lead Black orgs.
This, I don’t get.
Nina:
Maybe they did? Maybe one day a bunch of 2520s were sitting around praying and Hurricane Negro came and Black men and women just fell from the sky. New Theory?
I remember how the papers were going crazy during the primaries when they realized that more of the Latino vote was going to Hilary. It was shocking to them because they, YTs, lumped us all in together this whole time and figured we’d vote the same. I guess the minority communities never got the memo that YT doesn’t give a damn about any of us.
You know what’s really weird? Groups of people trying to claim that you are, in fact, one of them.
I went to New York with my family once and we went to Chevy’s. I was standing by the sinks in the women’s bathroom and these two Puerto Rican girls came out of their stalls and looked at me and one started speaking Spanish in my direction. I told her that I didn’t speak Spanish and they both got stank faces on. Then one asked (in Spanish) if I was Puerto Rican and I said no I’m just black. They turned around and one was like, (In Spanish and in a huffy tone), “She looks Puerto Rican!”
I was like, wtf?
“In fact, most Latinos I know are super racist towards African-Americans.”
Edumucated – Really; when you say Latino who are you referring to? I never had one single problem growing up with anyone whose family originated in a Caribbean Spanish speaking county.
Now if you are talking about Mexicans, then I understand because there seems to be a very deep seeded racism in Mexico against Black people.
@ Edumucated,
LOL. That would explain the insanity —all those bumps on the head..concussions…it would make a lot of sense
…thus, since we can’t take YT down, let’s just tear each other down for 2nd place. SMH
Riz: “I’m not gonna lie: I did not read through the comments but just scanned them because I don’t really care about hearing the ethnic breakground of every commenter… Not that it’s unimportant, it’s just that I don’t really care.”….and here is where I stopped reading your comment, cuz now I don’t care…have a nice day! lol
Anyways…since we are all saying the same shit over and over again, I went to the Beyonceitis website to get this entertaining tidbit from the Q & A Section:
Q: Is this site a fan site or a hater site?
A: Yes.
——————————————————————–
Q: Why do you always hate on Kelly Rowland?
A: BECAUSE I AM KELLY ROWLAND!
———————————————————————-
Q: Why are you such a fan of Beyonce?
A: I’m a fan of old-school natural performers. Before lip-synching, and Pro Tools, and marketing teams, and ringtones. Where it was just you and a mic, a band, a wig, and a spotlight and you had to work it out and if you sucked they booed you (or shot at you, depending on the city). You had to sing and move AT THE SAME DAMN TIME. And Beyonce is as close to an old-school performer as we have right now. Plus I know what’s it’s like to be hated on for being talented and light-skindededed and and a natural blonde, so in many ways me and Beyonce are soul mates.
——————————————————————
Q: Why Doesn’t (Insert Name of Your Favorite Artist) just perform on (Insert Name of Awards Show) or (Insert Name of Talk Show) or be on the cover of (Insert Name of Magazine) to boost their record sales?
A: Promotion is a 2-way street. These shows are not going to book anyone who doesn’t attract viewers and these magazine are not going to put anyone on the cover who doesn’t generate sales. Beyonce could pick her nose and wipe it on the cover of VIBE and it would sell millions of copies because there is an interest in her. If your favorite artist isn’t all on magazines, award shows, and talk shows chances are
no one cares about them.
———————————————————————–
Q: I’m gay and all my friends are gay and love Beyonce, but I’m just not into her like that. It’s something wrong with me?
A: No. As I said previously not all gay men love Beyonce. Only attractive gay men love Beyonce. Unattractive gay men prefer Brandy, Amerie, and such… Old gays still think Janet is the hottest chick in the game, generally wack queens prefer Mariah, homothugs prefer Keyshia Cole, old homothugs prefer Mary J. Blige (we’ve researced this heavily)
———————————————————————–
Q: Beyonce is ok, but I like Rhianna much better. Is there something wrong with me?
A: No. But if you’re a Rihanna fan chances are you get a LOT of urinary tract infections and/or “cold sores”. I listen to Rhianna’s music from time to time because somtimes the sound of a goat groaning over a dance beat soothes me.
———————————————————————–
Q: I think Beyonce is overrated, played out, overexposed, her time is up and she needs to go away. What do you think?
A: I think your mother is an old, toothless prostitute who used to sell her ass for $5 and candy bars for 25 cents, and made more money selling candy bars.
———————————————————————–
Q: How did Beyonce and Jay-Z Meet?
A: Jay-Z and Matthew Knowles went to high school together. The exact year they graduated is unknown…
Yeah, coming from Cali, lots of Mexicans are SUPER racist towards blacks. Isn’t there a race war of sorts going on between mexicans and blacks in LA right now?
Paul Mooney: Everybody wanna be black, but nobody wanna be black.
I don’t really self-identify as Creole, but my dad’s family is Creole. I’m a regular nigga (as Sarah put it). But, the t-shirts at my family reunions have a difficult-to-spell last name printed on them, my daddy tortures me by playing Zydeco CDs in the car on long trips and it is easier to find cayenne than black pepper in my pantry.
“Isn’t there a race war of sorts going on between mexicans and blacks in LA right now?”
Rev – That’s mostly between gangs but the media plays it up like it’s just regular Blacks and Chicanos going at it.
There is always a race war going on between Mexicans and Blacks. Mexicans hate Black people; at least Mexicans in LA hate Black people.
I forgot this part:
One day Matthew was hot combing his afro because he wanted Tina to braid his hair and put beads on them. Unfortunately, the hotcomb was too hot and all the oil and Creole herbs and spices that Tina put in his hair burst into flames setting Matthew’s hair on fire. Jay-Z just happened to be walking by and ran in and put the fire out and saved Matthew’s life. Out of gratitude for saving his life, Matthew promised Jay his firstborn child’s hand in marriage. And that is how Jay-Z and Beyonce got together.
Monie: I am referring to Dominicans, Colombians, Cubans, Mexicans, Salvis. The Latino community is even more infatuated with lightening than the Black community. Latinos have realized that if they get light enough they can pass. They aren’t racist like 2520s where they won’t talk to you or be friends with you. But in a group of Latinos you would be amazed some of the stuff that comes out of their mouths.
Totally off topic: Why are all of the American sprinters all kinds of butter-fingers when it’s time to run the relays? I watched that crap last night and could not believe that the men and then the women went out like that. WTF!
@Jessaka: Clearly you missed the sarcasm tag, wherein I said, “See how much you care?”.
Don’t start with me. Really.
“Why are all of the American sprinters all kinds of butter-fingers..”
LOL. I don’t know why but that totally made me guffaw. And now I’m embarassed.
Yeah, it’s one thing when the gangs do it to each other, but I’ve heard stories about innocent bystanders getting in the crossfire too.
I have relatives in Cali that HATE Mexicans. Especially my uncle. He sounds like a white supremacist when it comes to them. I remember when I was 7 y/o and we were driving somewhere and he saw these Mexicans running across the street, one pushing a stroller and had a baby in the oven too. He says, “I ought to run their asses over, and the mama is gonna be like, ‘oh me bebe, me bebe!’”.
That was some disturbing shit for a second grader to hear.
Paul Mooney: Everybody wanna be black, but nobody wanna be black.
@Amadeo – This IS NOT the exact quote, are you self-censoring…
Edumucated – Okay I understand. Yep I agree about the light skin thing. I sometimes what tele-novellas and am amazed atthe portrayals of darker skinned people.
Monie: I was listening to the steve harvey show this morning and I was rolling cuz he said the athletes can’t get it like they used to cuz they’re going through roid-withdrawal…he was like Marion Jones could of did it with one shoe on! lmao
P.S. CHRIS!!!! Where are you??? I’ve just been e-threatened! lmaox20
Edumucated – Okay I understand. Yep I agree about the light skin thing. I sometimes watch tele-novellas and am amazed atthe portrayals of darker skinned people.
Wait the Beyonceitis really exist? I thought you Negros were joking. The world is ending man…i swear.
Pretty much all races are so scared to be associated as “Black,” that they do whatever it takes to dissassociate and act “Better” that regular old Black people.
I think this is going to get worst as Obama brings the middle class Black presence more into the public eye. It could take away other minorities sense of superiority that they feel due to their skin color and hair, and remind them that they are taking up the positions that we, Blacks, used to do (cooking, cleaning, nannies, etc).
You’d think that would make us bond more and note that we share in the struggle. But as was mentioned in the Reverse Racism post, people are content to fight over crumbs.
Yea…my family is all kinds of racist towards Mexicans. But it’s quite honestly only the illegal ones. I don’t have a problem with legal citizens of this country but I hate hate hate hate illegal immigrants and the Mexicans are the only ones who make a big stinkabout being illegal and how much it sucks to be illegal. Of course it sucks, you’re breaking the law, asshole.
In Texas, Blacks and Mexicans are pretty cool.
We say ugly things about each other, but in one another’s company just as much as behind one another’s backs.
*waves hand* I’m regular black!
LMAO at Hurricane Negro
Actually Muse, this is why the world is coming to an end
“Tyree Monique Tate and her sister shoplifted $500 worth of children’s clothing from a TJ Maxx store in a mall. They ran and even sprayed a security cop with pepper spray. They ran so fast, so far. They ran to the local Goodwill store. Tyree climbed inside a large green trash compactor, ignoring the many signs that said “Keep Out.” Cops found her sister and her sister refused to snitch on Tyree and claimed that she didn’t hardly even know her. Well, a Goodwill employee decides to use the trash compactor. Tyree was crushed to death and died from wound sustained after being compacted. She was only 26.”
I do not understand why people dislike illegal Mexican immigrants.
@tomato- I had the same thing happen to me. I was in San Fran last year and this white and phillipino chick kept asking me if I was part Phillipino cuz my eyes were chinky. Drunk ass chick wouldn’t give the idea up either. Was the first time I had heard that one.
JessAKA Rabbitt – I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t some truth to that. Think about all the American favorites that lost, Tyson Gay, Jeremy Wariner, Allyson Felix (and Allysons ex-boyfriend is currently under suspension for doping).
You’d understand if you lived in Los Angeles
@Tomato: Yeah, I agree about the illegal/ vs. legal difference. I find that a lot of BLack anger is directed to those who are in the country illegally and are getting the so-called “perks” and benefits of American citizenship without payin taxes. But man, I dunno. I wouldn’t pay taxes if I didn’t have to, either.
But other than that, I find Blacks and Mexicans get along better than the media portrays it. 2520s believe in Divide and Conquer. It’s worked since colonialism.
Da Brat just got sentenced to 3 years in jail. Someone get her a Baconator.
ILLEGAL MEXICANS DO PAY TAXES, PEOPLE.
AND they don’t get refunds or social security.
@ Jen
What was amazing to me was that TX is like a whole other world when it comes to Black & Mexican relations. I lived in TX for 5 years and before then I swear I’d never seen a Mexican in my life ( I was a little kid, don’t judge me), but when we moved to NC, people were dogging Mexicans out like they were the lowest form of life. Not even human. It was crazy to see just how much things differ depending on region. I would tell people Mexicans were running shit in TX, and they never believed me.
How do you know this Jen? It’s not like they keep tabs on them in that way…they’re illegal. technically, they don’t exist in this country.
My perspective on the illegal issue? If my black ass went to Mexico, demanded that everyone kowtow to me and speak English, refuse to learn the language, and used up their services, I’d be ran out of the country, looking like a damn fool.
I’m sorry, the issue of illegal immigration is one of the few issues that I’m a conservative on.
Legal immigrants who have not officially gotten their papers do pay taxes (like those on an H1 visa pay tons of taxes), but not those who are working under the table.
@Edumucated – LMAO – it would of been easier to just get clothes from the Goodwill, what is wrong with people?
ILLEGAL MEXICANS DO PAY TAXES, PEOPLE.
Ummm, not the ones you pick up at Home Depot and pay cash to fix your kitchen. Not that I’d know anything about that. *whistles and goes to lunch*
Tomato:
They pay taxes because they work with fake socials. They just can’t claim refunds for the same reason. They also have no access to health care. Most immigrants, particularly illegal immigrants try very hard to learn English, however, the bilingual education system in this country is fucking garbage. The media has provided information regarding immigrants and immigration that is about 90% completely false.
Having Latinos walk up to you and start speaking Spanish in NYC is kind of common for alot of black folks, actually.
@Edumacated:
Sad story, but God says Thou Shalt Not Steal as you will get crushethed by a compactor.
Or as my brother says, “God’s cleaning out the gene pool I guess”.
Pray for me ya’ll…
Why do Black celebs always actually go to jail and the White ones always get rehab or counseling? Oh wait, silly question.
I feel bad for Da Brat. But it’s time for her to grow up and start using her government name! Isn’t she in her thirties and still calling herself Da Brat? I swear rappers are like cartoon characters.
Most illegal Mexicans gain employment by using false social security numbers.
You don’t think most people who employ illegal Mexicans are so big and bold that they just hire folks that are blatantly illegal, do you??
They fill out employment apps and tax forms using fake social security numbers, they have taxes taken out of their checks and, of course, pay taxes when they go to stores and make purchases.
I thought this was common knowledge.
@ Omar
I have a bunch of Mooney swirling around….I sometimes forget parts…forgive me.
@ Tomato
You can’t live in America and not pay taxes unless you exist of shoplifting alone. Wino’s pay tax regular.
Yes, there are places that hire people that are blatantly illegal. Ask a dishwasher at Paco’s Taco Shack if he’s legally employed.
@Monie,
Some (but not all) Black celebs WANT to go to jail, in order to keep “street cred” because, as you know, it’s real important for all Black people to identify with the criminal element.
Ironically, once Martha Stewart went to jail, I didn’t dislike her as much.
Everyone pays taxes by buying stuff…durr. What I think most people, including myself, mean by “paying taxes” is getting tax returns and W-2s all that.
When I was in high school I had long flowing black permed hair ( lol at myself) anyway, my peers would state that I must had Indian in me, but them heifers were talking about people from India. How rude..
Just like you stated in the post in the ’90 it was popular to be Native American I guess I didn’t fit the bill.
Now I got people literally stopping me on the street to ask me either 1. Am I from Africa? (they mean just off the boat Africa, from Nigeria, Egypt, etc)
2. Am I Caribbean? When I tell them I am from VA and I am African American or just plain American they look at me as if I am lying. What the hell what is wrong with just being black?

Oh, something really bizarre that has happened to me on two separate occasions: East Indians asking me if I’m Indian. And when I reply “no”, they ask if my parents are Indian. And I say no…I’m just black. And both times the Indian person replied with something to the effect of: “You could be Indian like me”.
And I just went on my way wondering why in on earth someone thought I looked East Indian.
lmfao at this post!!!
Sorry it took so long for me to come join y’all…just waking up from last night’s drunkeness…lmao. Story to come soon…
For now, I’m going to get my pancakes.
All I have to say about illegals is; try and go to Mexico and set up shop as an illegal and see how long it takes before you’re in a Mexican jail cell eating three day old tortillas and drinking muddy water.
It’s amazing that the Mexican government is always pushing for better treatment of illegals in the U.S. and yet treats Illegals like crap in Mexico.
lol at “long flowing black permed hair”
TomatoHead – Okay you just need to buy a tee-shirt that says 100% Black if this is happening to you so much. Lol It’s will save you a lot of time.
It’s amazing that the Mexican government is always pushing for better treatment of illegals in the U.S. and yet treats Illegals like crap in Mexico.
Right, that is my whole issue with the illegal immigrants. We can’t go to Mexico and set up shop like that. Hey, turnabout is fair play, isn’t it?
And don’t get me started on how some of them come here acting like they’re better or superior to AA’s…
@ Tomato
Yeah but if you don’t make over a certain amount you aren’t really taxed (per state of course) so where everyone gets hit is purchases….others explained the fake SS already. An employer would have issues if no taxes come from his employees…the Gov. doesn’t give a shit if you don’t claim money they owe you.
Okay, so 2/3 of Immigrants pay taxes.
And the US government does knock the hustle by requesting that those under the table also pay.
My bad. All the immigrants that I know are on H1s… and some even act like Black-Latinos do towards regular old Black people– they are prejudice against them for making all immigrants look bad.
LOL @ monie. I think if I did that people would talk up to me and ask if I was being ironic.
*would walk up to me
I thought I was the only one that said “regular black” My friend looked at me like I was crazy when I said that to someone. I was living in NYC and was tired of everybody labeling me, expecting me to be from some exotic land. Va is exotic, slave central back in the day
@edu and Monie-
Damn I told ya’ll the Brat wasn’t gonna be able to help her girl Lisa Raye out.
@ CD
Umm…do you have maple syrup…mmmm…pancakes.
@ All
Don’t ya’ll know…Mexicans own California. I just go ahead and call it Califas so when shit goes down they’ll know I understand.
I thought Brat and Lisa Raye were sisters or cousins…
“The non-partisan National Research Council found that when the taxes paid by the children of low-skilled immigrant families — most of whom are illegal — are factored in, they contribute on average $80,000 more to federal coffers than they consume.”
reason.org/commentaries/dalmia_20060501.shtml
This about gov’t issued fake SSNs (called ITINs):
“The immigrants have been able to file since 1996 when the IRS started issuing special tax numbers for people living and working illegally in this country. Experts say the 8 million to 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States contribute untold billions each year in payroll taxes.”
signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20040415/news_1n15taxes.html
This about straight-up made up SSNs:
“These days, most immigrants working unlawfully buy a document combo for $100 to $200 that includes a fake green card and fake Social Security card with a nine-digit number plucked out of thin air. “They’ll make it for you right there at the flea market,” said David Blanco, an illegal immigrant from Costa Rica who works as an auto mechanic in Stockton, Calif.
This process has one big drawback, however. Each year, Social Security receives millions of W-2 earning statements with names or numbers that do not match its records. Nine million poured in for 2002, many of them just simple mistakes. In response the agency sends hundreds of thousands of letters asking employers to correct the information. These letters can provoke the firing of the offending worker.”

Explain to me how the best argument against immigration so far is that “we can’t go to mexico and ‘set up shop’?”… raise your hand if you ever WANTED to go to mexico and be an entrepreneur?
i have NO problem with mexican immigrants at all! the ones i’ve come across work extremely hard, provide services at reasonable prices, and spend money in the united states….
every time i meet a negro who don’t wanna work i drive to mexico and sneak in an immigrant… snitch if you want to.
“Explain to me how the best argument against immigration so far is that “we can’t go to mexico and ’set up shop’?”… raise your hand if you ever WANTED to go to mexico and be an entrepreneur?”
Basically.
have we talked about sex this week?
Dekela is Af-Am
Yes I have been in many discussions with Carribean and African people in NYC and its like AfroAmericans are the scurge of the Black Earth, we are lazy, shiftless and criminals….
Oh the line in which I lost it: “Black Americans have no culture”
That’s when my educated ass loses it and breaks down their nationality, their culture and why its NOT better than mines, smh…
Chad: Have you ever come across the kind who call you nigger to your face and tell you that this is their land and you shouldn’t be on it? Or the ones who have their children playing in the street and get hit and try to sue you? Or the ones who bring down the property value in your neighborhood because they create their own personal “villages”?
Late as usual, but I’d like to kiss Rev Love’s ring for spelling “kowtow” correctly.
B4Prez,
I just did a search on the Brooklyn Public Library site for the tracing your genes thing and I couldn’t find any event like that. Do you haev any detailed info? Thanks.
TheChad – My hand is raised. I’d love to go to mexico with about $5000 buy a house for $1500 and retire! Seriously.
Lindsay & BenAfficial – As far as I know they are sisters and both seem to be going through a rough patch at the moment.
THANK you, Chad.
I hate with a passion when people give illegal immigrants a hard time.
What gets me the most are loud ass white people who do it knowing good and damn well their great great grandparents hopped their immigrant asses into this country via boat–frequently, much more easily than did their modern Mexican counterparts.
Only, then, you didn’t have to jump through all these damn hoops to be an American the way they are trying to have brown people jump through hoops today.
Mybest argument against illegal immigration is that it’s ILLEGAL. There is a reason why it’s called illegal immigration. The people who do it are criminals plain and simple.
Did you all know that California is named for a mythical Black woman named Queen Califa?
…can I point out the majority of illegals are people that outstay their student/work visas?
Yes, that means those europeans, canadians, and such.
Ugh. It is only illegal because most people immigrating here illegally aren’t white. When most immigrants were white, this country was an immigrant free for all. Lady Liberty was doing the cha cha slide at the sight of people flooding in.
And they shouldn’t be here either, Chaotic.
Whenever people ask me about race, I just tell them African-American, emphasis on the “American,” which in itself signifies a mix of cultures. Even 2520 Americans are mixed English and Irish and French or whatever, so I let people know that “Black” is a diverse race of people.
I do it because, by claiming that all Black people should look the same, people reinforce old stereotypes. Usually people question our race when we are good-looking, articulate, cultured, sophisticated or otherwise a non-stereotype that the mainstream has not seen on BET (as someone else mentioned, cops don’t ask if you’re 1/4 Chinese when they pull you over). When these “good” Blacks are labeled as Other, then “regular old Black” gets to stay at the bottom of the heap.
I refuse to allow that to happen.
LOL @ Monie
I thought you made that up until I just googled it, sure enough a Black Amazon warrior queen.. interesting
@ tomato and chad- I agree about the property value issue. I have personally seen some neighborhoods get beyond ghetto and I didn’t think it was possible. I haven’t experienced anyh of that other stuff though. I do know that all my black friends are now on some, “yo dawg I don’t do the moving thing anymore, my back you know what I’m sayin?” So every time I’ve moved (prob 5 times in the last 6 yrs) I head right on down to home depot and hire two or three latin dudes for the heavy lifting.
Its hit or miss with the Latino countries,
PR’s tend to associate and embrace their African roots while Dominicans (speaking from many prior experiences) are probably some of the most racist non-identifiable of the group. Especially if they are first-generation/migrant.
Chica: Excusa, donde Evergreen y Halsey?
Me: Sorry I’m not spanish (though I do understand it)
Chica: Oh you look dominican!
Me: No, dominicans look black..
Chica: You saying I look black?
Me: Si
Walks away…
@TH: I feel you, i really do. that hasn’t been my experience at all, but perhaps instead of condemning all immigrants (which inevitable turns to ALL mexicans), we should only condemn the offenders in the situations you mentioned…
It really bothers me to hear black folk use terms like “the ones.. ” or “the kind…”. it sounds like when southern racist whites used to group us into good niggers and bad niggers…
people aren’t brand names… races aren’t product lines… this whole thing is a socially constructed concept with little scientific basis… i KNOW yall know this. how dare you collect an entire group of people and stigmatize them for offenses committed by strangers who share physical characteristics…
“Lady Liberty was doing the cha cha slide”
Best mental image ever!
@the Chad
well said
@Scipio-
It’s the branch on Macon in Brooklyn. The class goes from 1-3.
and co-sign Riz.
I wouldn’t be who I am without ‘regular’ blacks at my foundation. Nigerians, Ghanaians (sp?), Jamaicans and others are often visibly disappointed when, after they ask where I’m from, I say “Maryland,” and further prodding only gets them “D.C.”
OMG I’m not even going to get fucking STARTED in illegal Mexicans in Los Angeles. You have to live here to understand. SOme of them are in gangs that target Black people. When it comes to immigration, I feel that everyone regardless of their situation should go through the proper channels to become legit. Just because some asshole decides to scale a wall doesn’t entitle him/her to stay in this country. And before anyone goes there, Yes I know CA use to be part of Mexico but it’s now America. Deal with it. In fact illegal aliens underminds the whole immigration process in this country. Allowing illegal aliens to stay here is unfair to the individuals who spend thousands of dollars to stay here legally.
Chad: there are good people and bad people. i don’t understand why there can’t be good mexicans and bad mexicans. There are mexicans who came here legally, who learned English, who bought homes and keep them looking nice, and had children who know English and Spanish and go to college or trade school and generally live boring, legal lives.
Then there are the illegal immigrants (and not all illegal mexicans are like this, there are the kind who actually just come here to work and stfu) who whine about how Americans should speak English, how black people are useless and how we aren’t sensitive to their needs. You are not legally in this country, no one should care about your “needs”.
Jen: That time has come and gone. There was also a time when brown people were forcibly brought here and that’s over and done with.
@ CD
But they keep trying to make it even easier for them to get here…I think it cause they think they’re accents are better.
B4prez, thanks.
not to mention that i’ve noticed a family and economical structuring of mexican culture that we all need to learn before people get sent back:
A few immigrants come to america and learn a TRADE through apprenticeships or cheap labor well enough to start doing side jobs for extra cash…
they take the money earned, invest in cars and property to support the rest of the family while other schooling takes place…
through a tightly knit network they have their own grocers, cleaners, churches, bus stations (i’ve seen em), mechanics, etc… who provide services that are affordable for their community…
soon enough they can open own shop/business based on the skills learned so they can support their family and get this shit…
THEY TEACH IT TO THE CHILDREN AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY WHO NEED HELP AND WORK….
which is why they are NEVER leaving and will soon be MUCH more successful than us prestigious af. americans…
*how we should speak Spanish…not English. my brain isn’t working as I am at work
Do ya’ll realize that in the last study of people caught coming into the country Chinese were the largest numbers by far. Mexicans weren’t even in the top 5. Ethiopians and Eritreans were on the list as well.
Amadeo: Tis bizarre…but then again you don’t have 1 million of them marching on downtown LA saying that they aren’t criminals…
I’ve just been reading back and forth…I’m kind of shocked that some of these bloggers are using the same racist and xenophobic logic of European conquerors ( read: rapists, murderes and thieves) that has held us down for so long against latinos…just my two cents
@ Muse, TH
This is probably not news to either of you, but HELLO!
The immigration process in this country is wack as all hell. Muse has already alluded how it favors privileged [cough-white-cough] people. And, I’ll add that the entire concept of asylum is a joke.
For the illegal immigrant convo, I just believe if the country allows Latin immigrants to live here they should allow it for everybody. (I would rather everyone do it legally) The government will ship Haitians and Africans back in a heart beat when they are caught. Also, they allow Jewish, Russian immigrants to live here. There should be a balance. But I mostly agree with Tomatohead
@ Amaedo – I know there are other types of immigrants, but most of those that I know are Mexican and, to a lesser extent, West Indian or Nigerian. I dunno about much of anything but about their experiences.
The land of the free can’t accommodate all. I believe other countries need to get their stuff together so their people can enjoy their heritage and their land.
I just don’t understand how people can think so negatively about people who are struggling in this country with poverty and racism in much the same way that Black people are and who are, by and large, honestly just doing the best they can for themselves and their families.
TheChad –
“which is why they are NEVER leaving and will soon be MUCH more successful than us prestigious af. americans…”
I’m sick of hearing people say simplistic crap like that.
First; if African Americans en mass had to go to a foreign country to make a living you’d better believe we would be sticking together too.
Second; all of these separate businesses that you refer to already existed in the Black American community during segregation. During that time we provided most of needed services to ourselves. Mexicans are doing the same because they are segregated because they are illegals.
Third; as Mexicans go from being first generation to second gen and so on they live, shop less and less in the Mexican area’s you refer too.
So please stop with the sill school of thought that we, Black Americans, should emulate Mexican illegal immigrants, it shows your lack of understanding of African American and American history.
Can someone please tell me exactly what in the hell is a 2520?
The country allows who they like or those that by letting in the spit in the face of a country they don’t like. I enjoy whatever scares the mass of 2520 America.
I feel that we as a people who have experienced hardship, distrust, and racism shouldn’t be so quick to jump on the get the hell out of town bandwagon. I feel the Mexican American community has something to offer; if nothing but the ethics of hard work.
Same time I agree that illegal is illegal and should be regulated accordingly; but I’d be much more inclined to handle deportation on a case by case basis.
My fear actually is the future, as the latin american families grow up here, they take on the characteristics of the popular youth. I see the same problems of crime, drugs, and gangs growing as the new breed of youth expands. These youth are not here for the same reasons that their parents came here. They will take much for granted (same way I feel about some black people). They will probably be much like I was as a youth; destructively applying energy to the detriment of the community instead of the upliftment of it. Even so, I find it hard to punish all for the sins or even possible future sins of the few.
“The land of the free can’t accommodate all.”
As much as i hate to admit it… you’re exactly right…
I say we drive down to your nearest neighborhood, slum, suburb, all of the above and find the lazy muthafuckas collecting welfare with two good legs, arms and too many excuses and get them the fuck out of here…
For every person i meet who “can’t get a job” i know someone else with 3…. i met a dude once who was homeless and needed money…
me: can you wash windows?
him: i don’t believe in windows gettin’ dirty…
he’s a legal citizen… get him the fuck out of here.
Can I point out that the U.S. makes it really easy for Cubans to come to this country. Under 5 and over 18 they can come to this country and get automatic citizenship.
“I just don’t understand how people can think so negatively about people who are struggling in this country with poverty and racism in much the same way that Black people are and who are, by and large, honestly just doing the best they can for themselves and their families.”
Live in LA for one year and you’ll know what I’m talking about. I think negatively about them because they don’t have to be here. They volunteered to come here and then they complain about poverty and racism. That is just stupid.
I’ve never had a problem with legal immigrants who come here, it’s the ILLEGAL ones. Call me what you want, but spare me all this PC bullshit.
I guess living in California for years has really affected me on this issue.
@Amadeo
You are right about the Chinese. I was watching a program the other day talking about how they have so much business interest in many countries in Africa right now to support their ever expanding populace. I wish I had some acres to plant a shitload of soybeans cuz they eatin the world up. Brazil has even cut back some rainforest to plant more soybean crops to support China’s growing needs.
So poverty and racism are nothing to complain about??
WTF…I don’t even feel like I am exchanging with the same group of people anymore.
I don’t understand how Californian and Texans can be so different when it comes to our perceptions of illegal Mexican immigrants.
A lot of the immigrant struggle does build on the backs of the Black struggle. Many are able to own their own businesses and have close-knit communities because lynching is no longer acceptable and laws have finally passed that protect the minority (due to our efforts and deaths along the way).
This is not to say that immigrants do not face huge struggles and difficulties, but it is to say that they, too, stand on the shoulders of giants.
Also, many see the “privileged” immigrants as embodying the American Dream , whereas Negroes are just a reminder of America’s dirty little secrets.
But ultimately, Mexican and Latino immigration is not the big issue these days.
“Second; all of these separate businesses that you refer to already existed in the Black American community during segregation. During that time we provided most of needed services to ourselves.”
—- that system still works… what happened?
I have the same understanding you have about african americans… and i get so infuriated because i WANT to experience the same kind of community leadership and financial stability WITHOUT having to go en mass to a foreign country… that’s not even culturally specific to me, it just seems like human nature… you take care of your family, you sustain money within YOUR community first, and you teach future generations how to make their own based on YOUR experiences so they don’t NEED the “just for us” stuff…
i don’t like to see those values diminish in the black community…
if that’s silly then fuck it… i’ll be it.
Jen like Tomato said, live in Los Angeles for a year. If you don’t live here you won’t understand. There are complex issues involved when it comes to Illegal immigration in So Cal. In fact it is a burden on our tax dollars in CA because so many govt services are being used to accommodate illegal immigrants.
I don’t understand how Californian and Texans can be so different when it comes to our perceptions of illegal Mexican immigrants.
If you ever lived in California, maybe you’d understand…
Jen: If you were to go to a country where you know full and damn well you were going to be poor and experience racism, would you still go and then whine about it?
I’m not going to apologize for feeling that illegal immigrants are dead wrong for being here. They are committing a crime. I don’t understand why people are sympathetic towards them. It’s like feeling sorry for someone who takes a shit in your backyard.
@ TheChad “that system still works… what happened?”
Integration.
@ Muse – I dunno shit about California except I would rather die than practice law there, so I will probably not be living there anytime soon. And aside from that, I LIKE liking Mexicans, so anything that is going to make me hate what is almost like an adopted culture to me, I politely decline.
@ riz “A lot of the immigrant struggle does build on the backs of the Black struggle.”
This is also true. That is why I asked Chaotic Diva to research the experience of Mexicans in Texas during the civil rights era the other day when she made the lazy Blacks comment.
“i WANT to experience the same kind of community leadership and financial stability WITHOUT having to go en mass to a foreign country…”
Well don’t be so brainwashed by the media then. The majority of African Americans are middle class, 75%. So exactly what is the problem? The media paints us as being ghetto, that’s the problem and then some Black people buy into that crap and run around talking about how badly ‘we’ are doing. Don’t believe the hype. We are doing just fine; especially when you consider that just 143 years ago we were enslaved, that’s not even three lifetimes ago.
Immigration is out of hand because of NAFTA and other business deals that our country made with Mexico that put a lot of people out of business there. Let’s not fight over crumbs again and the only reason they can survive hear is because people hire them and we always hear about them raiding these places and deporting people but never hear about them shutting down businesses and pulling people’s business license if they hire illegals. It is and has always been about the money and if certain people benefit then it is enough to look the other way.
@ TH
Yes, I would. That is how improvements are made in society–people bringing them to public attention.
This is all going down a very redneck path that I do not typically entertain. I understand you all have had a different experience living in California and interacting with Mexicans than I have living in Texas and interacting with Mexicans, but I can’t help but picture Bubbah from West Texas saying of feeling sorry for an illegal Mexican immigrant that “It’s like feeling sorry for someone who takes a shit in your backyard.”
We are at polar sides of this argument, and that much is clear.
Jen,
No one is telling you to hate Mexicans. I never said I hated Mexicans, but I do have a problem with illegal immigrants (all of which who are not Mexican but a large percentage of them are from Mexico) who come to this country and make demands that they aren’t entitled to. Although I think people like Ann Coulter are devils, she made an excellent point in one of her rants which she recommend that next time there illegal immigrants stop the flow of traffic and have one of their silly rallys, the INS should round them up and take them back to their countries.
co-sign Muse. I don’t hate legal mexicans. I really dislike illegal immigrants who feel they are entitled to be here or have rights in this country.
TheChad -
Also where is that community leadership in Mexico. Mexico is totally fcuked up, which is why Mexicans are coming here. So if Mexicans are all that and so much better than African Americans at everything why in the heck are they jumping ship and coming here?
Fuck it…I’m going to start sneaking Samoans into the country…BIG samoans.
Co-sign TH and Muse
I’ve never said that I hate all Mexicans either. How this was misinterpreted is beyond me.
I used to live in San Diego, Veinte Minutos from La Linea.
*sigh*
@ Jen…the lazy blacks comment was directed towards blacks in my area, and not nationally. Being that I have been very much so involved in volunteering to improve the black community (through free tutoring, volunteering at soup kitchens, and working at the black owned community center [that has seen a shortage in blacks volunteering there for the last 15 years..there are more asians and whites that come out and help there]), I feel that I have the right to make the comment that I did.
Although we do not have very many latinos in the area, and the ones we do have are mostly students from out of state, I will say that Latino Student Association, as well as the La Raza do alternative spring break every year, not to mention, they have mentorship programs with young latino kids in inner city areas, as well as recent immigrants that have been displaced from their parents.
I’m not saying that the black groups elsewhere don’t get involved, because I know they do. However, speaking on behalf of my area, especially in the Detroit area (Lansing, not so much, I will give Black Student Association credit at MSU, they will get out and actually go to work), the black groups, including the greeks, NAACP, Black Student Union, and such, are all more focused on being social organizations instead of giving back to the community.
And one more thing; if you think Mexicans are so unified, try putting some Nortenos and Southerners in the same room and see what happens. There will be blood.
Monie-
the ones i know personally come here to work and save money for a few years at a time… then they either GO BACK to mexico with money for their families or have enough to get their families here…
what i’m saying is that it’s not the same “umma do me, you do you” mentality that i get from a lot of black people.. yeah 75% may be middle class, but the gap between our middle class and our lower class is widening because we’re not lifting each other as we keep climbing… i’m extremely proud at the strides we’ve made financially in this country and the alarming speed in which we did it… but i can’t help but to be disappointed in the arrogant disconnect with others who used to struggle beside that came as a result…
and if 1 in 4 blacks are below middle class… that’s really nothing to shout from the rooftops…
mmmm…Amadeo mentions Samoans and all I can think of is millions of guys that look like The Rock pouring into the country….let’s do it! Lol
@ Muse…I got something to tell you!!!
@ Everyone Else: My Debauchery tale:
I was with my cousin, and 2 friends that we both graduated with from high school. We went to Denny’s (see: Sambo’s). There was a large group of hideous black dudes on the other side of the wall (we were at a booth), and there was a large group of black women at the two booths behind us.
My drunken ass made friends with all the females…and then this really ugly dude kept popping over the wall being nosy. Being that he was dark and ugly, I decided to name him Craig Mack.
Just imagine the jokes from our 3 tables on my side of the wall that erupted from that…
My other issue is that many of the public schools are now making accomidations for illegal immigrants who don’t speak English. Time, resources, and tax dollars are being these people English. My belief is that if you are here in this country illegallly, you should not get free education to teach you a language that you should already know. If you desire to learn English, then public resources should not be used to your benefit. I have no problem with individuals who are getting the appropriate visas to work here and following the law using tax payer resources. When I lived in Switzerland I had to have all my visas in order and I had to speak with French, German, or Italian. No one made accomidations for me and I was perfectly okay with that.
American is held to a double standard because in other countries like the Netherlands, a person wishing to become a citizen must speak Dutch. In addition they do not have access to tax payer resources unless that individual has an approved visa to be there. Many other European and Middle Eastern countries are the same way. SO my question is why can’t America enforce their immigration policy? Why are we granting exceptions for certain peoiple? My grandparents weren’t born in America and they went through the LEGAL means to become citizen not to mention spending thousands of dollars to come here.
“If you were to go to a country where you know full and damn well you were going to be poor and experience racism, would you still go and then whine about it?”
Yes. That is how societies evolve.
@ Muse – I don’t have any problem with public resources going to a largely tax-paying group.
Jen those illegal immigrants paying taxes are comitting fraud by using stolen social secuirty numbers. For all you know that social security number could be ruining another citizen’s credit.
@ JEN R U IN AUSTIN!! The “love” of organic food here is the first thing ppl i meet rave about!! Just askn.
The social security numbers are made up frequently–not stolen. Some pay taxes using ITINs. And clearly credit card fraud among illegal Mexican immigrants is a nonissue, because if it were, it would be all over the xenophobic American news.
Muse, you are equating morality with legality.
“equating morality with legality”
Chuuch.
Ok let’s talking about sex now
lol@Sharita
Austin could not be more hippified if it were carved out of the Great State and airlifted to California.
Another topic: what the heck is up with Rhythmic Gymnastics? Why are they making up sports? What’s next Olympic tippie-toe walking…..
What’s next Olympic tippie-toe walking…..
LMAO
Olympic Cupid Shuffle?
Olympic Spades?
So you are saying that all countries should eliminate the immigration laws and let anyone and anything come and go as they please? Do you understand the social and economic ramifications of such a thing?
The laws and are in place for a reason. The presence of illegal immigrants also has a negative impact on the poor working class in America. Illegal immigrants are willing to work for much lower wages under the table which inevitably hurts the job market for poor working class Americans.
Not to mention illegal immigrants are a strain on the economic. For example hospitals in the southwest part of the US incurred about 200 million dollars in cost for providing emergency medical treatment to illegal immigrants. Also the INS found that the cost of educating the children of illegal immigrants is in the Billions of dollars.
Oh and BTW you are wrong about the social security issue. Identify theft is associated with illegal immigrants who use social security numbers that don’t belong to time in order to get documentation. You can’t fake a social security number. Go on a credit card website and make up some random social security number, it won’t be found in the system. Those social security numbers being used by illegal immigrants BELONG or had BELONGED to someone else.
So there is no way you can justify illegal immigration and say those who are against it are immortal.
I sometimes dream of bringing my sword to work. I would cut and destroy as much property as I could, then I would love a woman vigorously on the conference table. After which I would drink three shots of tequila and wander off into the city.
Middle Eastern immigration is actually The New White. I’ve heard programs discuss how the U.S. is waiving in many of this type of immigration whereas blocking visas from Mexico.
Simply put though, the US has always existed on slave labor. Mexican’s provide this type of exploited labor. That’s why we want to deny Mexican legal immigration while still incentivizing it– an illegal class cannot fight back.
I’d be down for some Olympic slaps…
Or Olympic wall ball…
Are there any New Yorkers here and did you that fake-ass Handball they had at the olympics?
I’d laugh if they had Olympic ‘stepping’… (not what the fraternities do but what the Chicagoans do)
Speaking of making up sports. I think the goofiest I’ve seen so far is speed-walking. GTFOH with that. I mean, how do you know when you’re walking JUST fast enough not to be running. And it looks like it hurts your thighs to put so much pressure on your legs without jumping like you do in running. Like there’s no relief ‘cuz you have to keep at least one foot on the ground or some other nonsense.
lol@Amadeo apparently zonin’ out at work.
Olympic Tip-Toeing takes the cake!!! imagine those muscle bound fruits tip-toeing around a square of carpet in their unitards to some corn juicy ass classical music! lmaox25
LOL @ JEN!! I just moved here about a year ago and if i hear another person argue about how we need to GO GREEN (driving an SUV), tell me racism is not THAT BAD in AUSTIN!! , or GAY RIGHTS are is the same as CIVIL RIGHTS for BLACKS imma LOSE IT!! I always hear how all the YTs HATE houston but LOVE austin!! LOL (I try not to read too deep into that HATE HOUSTON statement) GRRRR!!
They ought to have dodgeball in the Olympics. That would be good. Can you imagine a dodgeball match between Iran and Israel!
Lmao@Olympic spades!
Olympic Letter B?
What about Olympic Dodgeball? It would be classic….
“I’d laugh if they had Olympic ’stepping’… (not what the fraternities do but what the Chicagoans do)”
LMFAO! That ain’t even right. Of course, Kells will provide the soundtrack and will run the torch.
What about Olympics ‘Hood Monopoly?
*in Douche Sports Announcer voice*
“Let’s watch Dejanay as she effortlessy throws the dice with such precision. Amazingly walking her thimble gamepiece and….she lands on Free Parking! The joy on her face as she scoops the money from under the board! Folks, what a treat! Let’s get a replay…”
“imagine those muscle bound fruits tip-toeing around a square of carpet in their unitards to some corn juicy ass classical music!”
LOL!
Olympic darts, beer pong and percolator triathlon….

Or OIympic Dominoes
lord….thank you for letting me find this site….

@ Monie
You mean two teams throwing…or the kind with enders?
Olympic Hot Hands
Or Olympic dominoes, they would have to have the announcers translate all the domino speak.
Co-signs Olympic Dodgeball, Spades, and Dominoes. Yessir! [Insert bloodsucking network channel here] would have all kinds of viewers. I’d watch that ALL day.
Olympic Dominoes?
Commentator 1 says: “He slams the ‘bone’ down with such force whilst yelling “Dominoe Muthafucka!”.
Commentator 2 says: “I think we’re going to need a new table after that one.”
Olympic Connect Four, ya’ll!
hood monopoly…. stop…. i can’t take it any more, my ribs hurt
If there were an Olympic Spades tournament, I’d kill for an instant replay of Pookie or Ray Ray throwing down the Big Joker.
With two teams throwing from opposite sides. That’s the only dodgeball I know.
Olympic Hide and Go Get it!
Olympic Crumpin!
If there were an Olympic Spades tournament, I’d kill for an instant replay of Pookie or Ray Ray throwing down the Big Joker

*snort* Okay, ya’ll killin’ me here! LOL! This is serious business. That play would be all up IN YouTube as one of the greatest plays of sports. Or if someone got SET?
Sup JG, how’s the trip going?
@ Monie
Awww…enders rocks…people get in the middle and you place someone on either side with one ball between them. The enders throw at you and you have to be quick and pay attention. If you play yourself out and dodge it the first time the ender behind you will kill you on the rebound.
Olympic number pulling?
Ohhhhh, he was rejected
Well Bob his wingman totally left him out there that time.
I watched Olympic BMX and I couldn’t believe it. They were basically just riding bikes over a few man-made hills and around a corner. I was like I can do that.
I think they add sports based upon White people being able to compete and people of color going what the f’in hell kind of sport is that. Thus you have BMX and Rhythmic Gymnastics.
lol @ olympic hide and go get -it
Olympic dutty wine… i just wanna see china and russia get it!
Olympic beat boxin?
Okay, ya’ll killin’ me here! LOL! This is serious business. That play would be all up IN YouTube as one of the greatest plays of sports. Or if someone got SET?
Or the asswhoopin/curse out someone would get if they reneged on a suit. Been there, done that, won’t do it again, long story.
Amadeo – Enders sounds fun too
@whoever mentioned handball – I grew up playing handball in the park in NY, that crap they have in the Olympics IS NOT handball.
And grown men playing vollyball is just weird…..
Olympic dutty whine…..I’d be glued to the TV!
“Or the asswhoopin/curse out someone would get if they reneged on a suit. Been there, done that, won’t do it again, long story.”
OH, no, Rev say it ain’t so?! I never did that, but was on the other end before. They’d pull out a damn club outta nowhere and we’d be like, “Um, Negro, I thought you didn’t have any damn clubs”. And earlier they had thrown that spade out, taking people’s King of Clubs with a shrug all, “Guess I lucked out with my hand”. I’m assuming by the “long story” that you learned your lesson, though.
Amadeo:
Olympic number pulling?
Ohhhhh, he was rejected
Well Bob his wingman totally left him out there that time….
wait I think Keyshia from the Watts team is making the classic move…wait for it…awww, she just threw hot grits in his face!!!!

olympic keg stands
I’m a regular looking black girl. The only time I’ve ever had anyone question my ethnicity was when I was in Mexico in undergrad and people thought I was Dominican until I opened my mouth to speak. There were four black people total in my program and a black guy from Cananada who went to another school. Fun times.
Olympic Hot Hands
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@ Muse, I think you know I am not suggesting chaos. I am suggesting that the current system is unfair, ineffective and immoral.
I also think you are kidding yourself about the “evils” currently being committed by illegal Mexican immigrants. The vast majority of these people are just trying to work to support their families. Undocumented Mexican immigrants are real, they exist and our economy NEEDS them.
The government should develop a system which more easily allows them to work without having to buy false papers. They should be able to get credit and lease apartments without using social security numbers. Companies who offer them such should not be villainized. Children should not be penalized for their parent’s actions and people–especially people seeking asylum–should not be discredited for just living their lives as they pursue valid citizenship.
I just do not believe that illegal immigrants are snatching food out of the mouths of “bona fide” Americans. I think their presence enhances our lives and enriches our society. Again, they bring billions of dollars into the economy each year, and, as the aforementioned article mentioned, as families, frequently put upwards from $80k more into American coffers than they take out.
Illegal immigration is one of the subjects upon which legality has little effect on my stance. The fact that illegal immigrants are “committing fraud” when they try to work, house and feed their families is not going to pit me against them.
If you do not or do not want to see this, we are going to have to agree to disagree because I’m sure you’ve heard it all before.
I guess I’m late. That’s waht I get for working today and then reading the comments and not refreshing the page before posting. Carry on.
LOL @ Omar!!!
Olympic Dutty Vine! See Russia get it!

Ahahaha…
If we had more Black games, we could have more Black-related Olympic sponsors, like Vaseline Intensive Care lotion and Popeyes.
OLYMPIC BBQ COOK OFF
I just see the controversy now in the Olympic spades tournament when the first White person yells “He reneged” ..then the Black players yelling “who did he just call a n*gger!” …fight!
Olympic fence jumping
He didn’t even use his hands on that one…someones got some priors Jim.
@ jen – preach.
also, i think a lot of americans should remember that the economic treaties their government signs with mexico (“free trade” ones) alongside retarded policies like agricultural subsidies are contributing to the increasing numbers of mexican immigrants.
as an “immigrant” (albeit legal, please do not call border protection on my african ass), i feel their pain. also, their refried beans/burritos/chorizo con nachos make me happy.
@ riz – don’t forget the malt liquor brewers.
I’m assuming by the “long story” that you learned your lesson, though.
I sure did. *shudders*
But have you ever played with someone who doesn’t understand the concept of “Big Joker/Little Joker/Deuce/Deuce”? Ugh… Back during undergrad, when we would be in the dorm lobby playing, one player threw out a 2 of Diamonds, and everyone was like, “Are you sure about that?”.
He threw an Ace of Spades down later with this look of confidence on his face and a near-riot occurred.
We did teach a bunch of 2520′s on how to play spades, that was, um, interesting…
…I should’ve asked them to teach me to play Texas Hold Em though.
yeah… then we could have Olympic chugging
it’d be a WHOLE new meaning to doing a “40 in 4.8 secs”
And Cadillac.
How about…Olympic Blunt Rolling!
Yeah, I’m going to hell wearing gasoline lingerie…
@Amadeo- In keeping with todays topic, we the Mexican’s might have us on Olympic fence jumping lol
“Not only did he clear the fence Jim, he did it with sandals and sombrero. I think thats a new record”
America has over 300+million people…..
Isn’t about time we rethink our immigration policy??
I mean seriously, we’re good with the amount that we have now if we close up our borders for the rest of our years
@ benafficial – bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahhahaa you’re so wrong
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/6390297.stm
also wrong
Can you imagine NBC doing a profile of the American Olympic Spades team? Lol Or the Jamaican dutty whine team!
@ BenAfficial
MWAAHAHAHAHAHHA
Migrant Mountain? They can’t be serious. I mean, they can…but they CAN’T! Wow…
Jen it’s all good. I respect your opinions. We don’t have to agree. Still think you are fierce even if your opinion is flawed : )
I really do love to debate though. Hearing different opinions is what makes life interesting.
Anyone remember the Inner-City Olympics on “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka?”
it’s a lifetime Ben……i’m just trying to stay black…..in america
yall got me rollin up here
i’m going to get Olympic-type fucked up this weekend…
yall have a fun and safe weekend…
A free baconator to whomever has the best story to tell on monday… not counting Chris…
so weirdly enough, i notice a lot of (liberal) white people doing this too. “oh i’m 1/4 irish, german, french, and whatever the fuck else. some kind of indian usually gets thrown in as well. i’m always that bitch that goes, oh really? that’s a lot of different cultural traditions to incorporate into your life. how do you do it? i usually get retarded answers if any to this question.
i think they do this so they don’t have to wake the fuck up and realize they’re white americans and they’ve got a legacy that’s not so pretty. basically, it’s a lot easier to just start claiming all this random ancestry than it is to start forging a new identity for yourself that doesn’t fit in with the mainstream.
so yeah…good post and lots of good comments on this one.
@rev lonnie
It is so crazy where there are like 40 different Spades variations in terms of the use of Deuce of Diamonds. I can’t even keep up w/ all the changes. They need to condense and make one rulebook that everyone follows.
Hey everyone
I just found out that I got Carib Indian in my family!!
So yall know ALL the Jamaicans WORLDWIDE partying tonight!!!! I just need to find a good party and a drink…whats up!?! Whos up for a drink?
Lol!!!!!!!! @ chad
whoa whoa whoa, did she say we should close our borders???? wtf. . . niggas on THIS side of the fence, always got shyt to say. bet if you had folks back in “motherland”, “home country”, or “meh-he-co” u would feel otherwise. . .
this country was built on immigration, now that it isn’t from eastern Europe bammas are all salty. Pipe down on get a REAL cause, like healthcare
I’m considering going to the Mocha Moms conference this weekend. I’ll demand that they let me in since my wife works so hard taking care of our kids so I let her rest. If they deny me I’ll make a sign that says: Mocha Moms don’t support Strong Black Fathers
I actually do have an aunt who lives in Africa and she gets in and out of the US with no problem LEGALLY!!!
Amadeo, I hate you ROTFLMAO
lol
You are my favorite, Amadeo, but you need to sit down. “I let her rest” is on the cut up.
possibly because she can afford it. . . or maybe she isn’t running from political strife. . . plus she isn’t mexican, those are the only people the government is really trying to keep out
just wanted to say y’all got me busting out laughing at your crazy olympics talk… right as the director of disease control walks by my door… THANKS.
and as a legal immigrant, i’ll just say one thing. the system favors the white and the priviledged…you gotta have some dollas to get a green card…
oh yeah, regla ass dyed in the wool african over here…and even still, i’m considered a ‘mutt’ with my Ga/Ewe/Fulani self
okay, carry on…
You know, as a first generation American…USA is great, but I cant help but thinking some real shit is about to go down soon…I dunno what, but when it happens, Im getting the fuck out. This country has its hands in WAY too many things at the moment. Im just scopin out the countries I wouldnt mind living in.
@ Vanita
you can come stay at the house we have in the T.O.
my parents never sold it for EXACTLY that reason…
Just wanted to put 2 cents in for the immigration argument… this is the first time I’ve written, I’m a lurker
Jen is right that the US should allow more labor workers to acquire working visas. Many of these people don’t want to stay in America–they just want the money to be able to live in Mexico, but they practically have to stay here because everytime they leave they may get caught trying to come back (illegally). A more open and legal border, set up by these work visas, would have taxes paid to America AND have less non-citizens using public resources. People talk about crossing the border like its so easy, but moving entire families across, including small children, is hard– but probably a better alternative to practically never seeing their father/brother/mother/whoever is over here making the money again.
Also, if we had just allowed the border to stay open for cheap labor the way we were doing in the 50s and 60s (when the numbers were, admittedly, much lower), many believe that Mexico’s economy probably would have corrected itself enough by now that people wouldn’t need to come over here to have a shot at a living wage.
But when has America ever taken the advice of someone that actually cares about long-term effects instead of instant gratification for the majority of voters (see Carter and his 1976 long term plan to get off of oil that everyone has ignored for 30 years for another example)?
What T.O.?
To quote my man from CB4, I’m black y’all and I’m black y’all and I’m black and I’m black cause I’m black y’all!
Vanita I love Switzerland. It’s an awesome country. That’s my back up plan if the shit hits the fan in the US.
Jen…were you protesting my earlier posts???
@ninasimone – Nah. I was agreeing with you about the ridiculousness of the Hispanic moniker.
Yes, this shit irritates the hell out of me. My husband was on that “I’m part Indian” b.s. for months. Him: “Aww shit, my grandfather’s great grandmother was Indian! I might as well tell people I’m Indian”.
I had to bring his ass back to reality. (Now mind you it’s very true, he really does have the features with the skin tone, high cheek bones, and non-black nose, but who the fuck cares?) My family is Indian about 4 generations back. But so is every other black person you meet on the streets. Can’t even get a fucking card for that shit.
I was JUST going to talk about this (what is mentioned in the following post), and I’m glad someone else pointed it out.
____________________________________________________
JessAKA Rabbitt (14:22:24) :
Okay…I am SOOO glad you did a post on this…my department that I work for at school (mentioned in comments section of the self-censorship post) brought Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. to campus and he went through how he traces blacks ancestry, etc. and he showed the clip of him on Oprah’s show and how she said “I am part Native American” and Dr. Gates laughed and talked about how common it is for Black people to wanna be mixed-especially with Cherokee (”good” hair, high cheekbones, beautfiful skin tone, etc,) but in reality a VERY SMALL percentage (he gave the % but I forget) actually have ANY Native blood in them at all!
I also hate when people claim a bunch of shit. It’s annoying and I don’t give a damn where your great-great-great-great-great grand uncle’s brother’s sister father is from. We’re so busy trying to escape being Black that we will claim any fuckin’ thing. Get over it and be happy being Black.
From a proud Black Yankee.
LOL @ Randy!
aww, i missed you guys today. i was in Bmore signing my lease. i move in to my tiny ass apartment tomorrow
and i’m down for Olympic Dutty Wine, as long as China respects the age requirement, lest we get Kineyah to rep for USA!
Only like 4% of Black folks have any Native roots anyway – I saw it on some PBS thing about ancestry. “African-American Lives”. Good program. Now you know that if someone says “oh yeah I think I got some Indian in my blood” or “she got dat gud Indian hurr” you know they’re 96% of the time blowing smoke up your ass.
Natives used to turn Blacks in for slave money, not sleep with ‘em.
@ ninasimone…
…not all cubans from cuba are of African descent. That’s why you will hear Cuban and black. Afro-cuban is a whole different thing.
“@ ninasimone…
…not all cubans from cuba are of African descent. That’s why you will hear Cuban and black. Afro-cuban is a whole different thing.”
Wow, really?
Evidently you selectively read the posts lol. I am not all confused about that. GO back and read what I said multiple times. Cuban is not a race. The end.
@ ninasimone…
Explain to me what a Latino is, RACIALLY, and I will let your comment slide.
My family were owned by the Cherokee. I’m not directly Cherokee, but if I meet someone who is, I’m sure i’ll throw that little fact in their face. My family name is on the original Cherokee Freedmen Roll. Fuck the Cherokee.
FYI folks, Hispanic or Latino does not refer to a race. Latino is a person of Latin-American or Spanish speaking descent, a person with Latin origin living in teh US, a native of a Latin American country, or someone who comes from individuals of Latin origin.
Yeah, so I don’t think its necessary to lecture anyone about the culture in which they grew up. C.Diva actually has significant blood (forgive me for not remembering the actual percentage), but let’s not confuse historical factoids with the reality in which people live. That’s like people telling me that there is no such thing as Regular Old Black, because of racial mixing and slave-rape. No matter what the factoids are, I’m still Black, ya’ll.
* significant Cuban blood.
@ ninasimone…
Explain to me what a Latino is, RACIALLY, and I will let your comment slide.
YOU will let MY comment slide???? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!! Are you like the queen of SBPH?????? Girl, bye. You have typed so much ignorant shit on this website that I would never try to engage you in actual conversation…..and I didnt in this case!!!!. You picked up on a conversation that has been discussed and ended.
This chick say she is going to let my comment slide. Ignorance is truly bliss. —LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and the very nature of what you are asking now lets me further now that you STILL dont understand the discussion from earlier or have some serious reading comprehension problems. I mean get somebody to read them with you bc you are clearly very very confused about what I initially asked.
Dont get in a huff everytime someone makes a comment about people with whom you identify …especially if you are prone to saying ignorant things that make no damn sense.
SBPH, come get youre- girl. SHe been flirting hard.. talking about pancakes…typing responses in spanish since you wanna date a latina…come get her lol!
Since the creation of WEAVE people have been jumping on the Cherokee bandwagon and it took a pow wow for ya? Sorry for that outburst.
Yes the grandmother bit does get old, but its funny to mess with their already vague ass story. But chicks just walking up to you for no reason? You have miss out on quality generic pussy and I’m either thrilled for a man of substance or disappointed that ya miss the whole ship. The next time for kicks, you should start screaming “GOOD LORD!! WE HAVE A REAL LIVE INDIAN HERE!!!!”
Or even better, Ill do it. Leave it to the 1/4 to show her ass.
@ nina
The point that I was making is that you cannot say something like “cuban and black” because cuban and black are NOT the same thing. Just like cuban and white are NOT the same thing. People like to identify with the culture in which they grew up. Saying some ignorant shit like “I don’t like it when latinos say something like that” sounds prejudiced as hell. Excuse me for coming off bitchy and such, last night I was exhausted and in slap-a-bitch mode (one of my coworkers).
By the way, stop taking my silly flirtatious comments seriously. If you would have noticed, I’ve “flirted” with all of the guys on here, and not just sbph. So before any shit gets started, I don’t know anybody from here in person.
*Correction* “cuban and black are the same thing” not “cuban and black”
Sorry, still a little groggy in the brain.
My grandfather was Algonquin. After that I’m an 1890.
=)
@Nina:
Sit down. Seriously. Nibble on a Xanax and walk away from the computer until you get your inexplicable resentment under control.
It’s one thing to disagree with the substance of what a poster says; it’s another thing to attack them personally. If you don’t agree with the substance of a comment, fine, that’s cool. Say your point, engage in debate, even throw in some catchy one-liners and pat yourself on the back. But chalk it up as a simple difference in opinion and leave it behind in that post.
But to make a personal attack when YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW the person is uncalled for, unjustified and completely illogical. It reeks of ignorance and insecurity. I mean, you’re gonna roll up here and be mad that C.Diva likes PANCAKES? Really? What kinda shit is that? It’s trivial, and it makes you sound like the type of petty person that would be dogged on this very site.
I sincerely hope you’re not that girl.
And for heaven’s sake, PLEASE stop calling for SBPH/ Chris like he’s your daddy. Just because you are one of many who has a gchat convo with him, it doesn’t mean he’s going to come rushing in to defend your inflammatory statements…. and it sure as hell won’t hold any of us back from what we want to say. You seriously think he’s gonna come referee some childish debate about pancakes? I mean, chicken, maybe, but otherwise, it’s unnecessary to go “tattletale” just because you got called out. So, just let it go…. and keep the peace.
I like chicken and pancakes, but chicken goes better with waffles.
And damn it, where is Puff? I miss her. We could hand feed each other chicken and waffles, and let the butter and syrup and crumbs get everywhere…and then roll around in it…damnit someone pass the muffuckin hot sauce…
I’ve heard “whats your nationailty” enough times to buy out a gucci store. Confused by this i always respond, “Well, what do i look like?” I get a shurg. To me i look black and nothing else.
And are stunned when i’m accused of being anything from Arabian??!?, PR, Dominican, Jamaican, Eygptian?? to South African???? What the fuck?
So now when asked I reply, “Jewish.” Witha straight face and walk away before they can even question it.
Chicken does not go better with waffles.
OH wow… Folks are getting crunk on this fine Saturday afternoon.
Everyone’s race is human. Ethnicity refers to descent or place of origin.
That’s what I always felt. Does anyone feel differently?
For some reason I want chicken and waffles right now…YUM.
Folks are taking things super-literally.
Riz…there are times were it would be best to just sit back, stay out of it, and eat some popcorn.
I don’t like popcorn. I always like to have M&Ms at the movies.
Beer makes movies better.
This is true – as does shots of Patron. Snakes on a Plane was great because I was shitfaced.
You are a clown dude black people will do anything to be less black. Check out this link

caribbean festival is officially over…i’m back to being just black american again…and i’m ok with that…
I just see the controversy now in the Olympic spades tournament when the first White person yells “He reneged” ..then the Black players yelling “who did he just call a n*gger!” …fight!
died!
my darling sexual chocolate, i’m right here. and as i had a long ass day that chicken and waffles and rolling around sounds very good to me right now…
@ amadeo – have you seen the foolishness that is pineapple express? forget beer, it’s weed that makes movies better. i’m watching everything on lifetime high as from now on, to really get to the deeper meaning and shit.
Is it the near-end moment inflamming people’s passions? I didn’t know this place was funner than going out!
@Puff… I stated it, Pineapple Express is the new Friday: Best Movie to Watch after lighting up a storm… Not that it happens.
@ Muse,
You are correct. I should not jump into the middle of some shit. I’m typing with one eye open right now, cuz it’s just been one of those nights (HOLLLLLA). So I will agree that you’re right on the whole Being-Up-in-the-Koolaid- and-not-knowing-the-flavor. Touche.
But I’m just not cool with the unnecessary crunk… Like… ppl are tryna get loud for no reason at all. And yeah, I should wait until it’s directed right at me, and then I will be justified in gettin loose on someone… But why wait till that time? I mean, tryf is tryf and all I see is… well… tryf! I don’t want to see SBPH turn into a bunch of tired ass broads tryna fight for status on some ish that don’t matter….
But out of respect for your wisdom, I will calm it down… ‘specially since I incorporated the Canadian whiskey into my life… =/
BTW– first scene in Pineapple Express was the best… When Dude walks in with a full body armor gas mask? Lookin like a robot??? Comedic gold…
And Seth Rogan’s hits throughout that entire movie are amazing…
Just.. you know, theoretically.
I’m mad late on poting my comments…. but here they go….
LMAO@1260….
olympic gams you guys made up…. ROTFLMBAO!!!!!!!
Olympic tap out would be interesting!!!!
i’m sure i have some native american ancestry, but they’re houma, and they aren’t even recognized as an offical tribe by the government yet. but, at the end of the day….I’m black!!!! i get ssik of OTHER PEOPLE trying to make me more than just black. So when people ask me what I’m mixed with, I say “nigga.”
Chief Blogging Negro – is there a reason people claim to be part Cherokee instead of Iroquois or Apache or some other tribe? I’m just wondering if it’s the light-skinned-ed/superiority complex of Indians or something (or is it just that Cherokee is the only tribe they’ve heard of?)
Riz,
No worries. I figure there is no point in getting mixed up in some catty mess you know? Chaotic and nina are grown women who can speak for themselves. You might save energy by sitting back and enjoying some popcorn or talk about skeet. LOL.
ViK: more often than not, it’s the only tribe they’ve heard of.
Muse: Talk about skeet????
LMBAO!!!!
“I’m just wondering if it’s the light-skinned-ed/superiority complex of Indians or something (or is it just that Cherokee is the only tribe they’ve heard of?)”
We’re talking about Natives, not the middle east, ZING!
Whats funny Chris is my family actually is from Montana. And I can tell you there are or at least there were until my family had the good sense to leave more than 4 black people there. Since you don’t care I will actually leave out any details of my family heritage which I can provide proof of lol.
Angry IV (11:47:53) :

BWAHAHAHAHHA! Do I get to bail myself out by saying, “well, I know a guy who is 1/16th Spokane, and he calls himself an Indian so…” well, that’s a lie anyway
I think it’s an American issue, not just a black issue. I’m 1/4 Native American (Caddo and, yes, CHEROKEE) but the rest is white and I look it. Whenever the topic of ancestry comes up all my white friends say they’re Cherokee too, and yep, from a princess. Forget that the Cherokees didn’t have princesses…
@ Kara S.
That reminds me of a Salon.com article awhile back about Cherokee discrimination against Black Cherokees who are descended from slave the Cherokees owned and are on the tribal rolls. I’m American Indian, Navajo & Dakota Sioux and I can say that Indians can be racist, mostly out of ignorance really. We had a Miss Navajo Nation who was half-Black about ten years ago. She had a hard time growing up on the rez. Alot of the Black Navajo children born in the last 20 years are from relationships between Navajo women and Black men that arise when the couple meet while serving in the military. The Black men almost never return to the rez with their part-Indian children. I mean, there are no jobs, what would they do?
I think the reason that Cherokee is the tribe cited most frequently is because they were originally located in the South before the Trail of Tears and they were moved to Oklahoma. Also, after that it was more dangerous to be Indian in the South. They’d enslave you if you were black, but because of land issues, they’d shoot you if you were Indian. So, a lot of Cherokee that stayed survived by passing as White or Black. Brown didn’t exist in the South until recently with more and more Latino immigrants moving to the New South. In the mid-60′s when my dad was driving a truck through the South had to stop and use the restroom. He asked the owner of the gas station which restroom, (colored or white) he should use and the guy looked at my dad (who is mostly Sioux Indian with some white, he looks like Dan Rather, who is part Mohawk) and said, White, of course. My dad said, But I’m Indian and the guy got mad and said, Well, whichever one you want! and walked away.
Wow, you guys are racist. I know, I know it’s all about legality, rrright. If any of you have time go back and read how the conversation developed, and how the undertone almost became an outright overtone. I would think Black people of all people should know how this feels like, but it seems like everywhere and in all times when oppressed people start to finally get their act together, they just head straight for oppressing a less fortunate group. It’s almost like it’s part of pride, or celebration of Middle class identity and achievement “Finally someone to down on.”
I live in LA and I am not Lation, White, Black, or Asian, so I guess I can be kind of neutral on this. Mexicans are the nicest poeple ever! That’s it, they are hard-working, they love their families, they are nice, and they open up quickly. And the ones who don’t speak English make a superhuman effort to learn it, or at least to make sure that their children learn it. I have never seen a Mexican in real life say everyone in America should learn Spanish, but I have seen a lot of people making fun of their accents or pretending not to understand (when they sure as hell did understand) just to embarass them. And the people marching in LA were saying you can’t kick us out after we have lived here for years, had kids here, paid taxes, and made this our second home. I am all for stopping illegal immigration, but I don’t blame the Mexicans and once they are here (legally or illegally) I don’t hate on them. I think the government(s) have to do something to stop it, because it is illegal and is really unfair to people who are in queue to come here legally. But I blame the people for trying to make their lives better. If you go back and read a random anti-immigrant post above you will find out that’s exactly what it is anti-illegal-immigrants, not anti-illegal-immigration.
Well, Im late, but I hate it too when people claim to be part mixed with Native American and are not. I had some chick in HS tell me she was mixed wth Blackfoot Indian and all I could do was laugh. My father is half Choctaw. It is not something that I announce or even make available knowledge unless it is on topic or if people ask. I sometimes will go as far as saying no, because I get sick of people asking me all of the time. I live my life as a Black woman and am proud of that.
I really dont know what the fascination is with Black people wanting to be part something, especially Native American. People love to throw their rainbow coalition up when it is convient for them. Even when its all made up.
To be honest Ive only met about 4 other people besides myself who were actually mixed with Native American and 2 of those people were half White. This guy who traces back ancestry was on the radio once and he said that only a very small percentage of Black people are mixed with with Indian. Maybe like only 2%. Most Blacks are mixed with good ol White blood.
I think someone already said this but part of the obsession of claiming Native American is the sense of identity. Tracing your lineage, knowing your roots etc.
That and the fact their just fly as all get out. Native American men are just sexytime personified, and the women are fly and hold it down. The value system, culture, wisdom all are things people want to claim, I don’t blame people. Their culture also has a lot in common with other cultures, particularly African.
More of the Same this post is nothing more than minorities hating on other minorities . So what if a black person says he or she has native American blood in them you are mad at them for that . And seeing the way you treat people why would someone want to have that much interactions with a group of people that has so much HATE for them . I have Native American roots. I am African-American. I am different from the people in Africa.
And for the people talking about DNA testing those have been proven to be less than reliable .
LOL, so Chris what about those of us who can trace part of our roots back to the upper northwest and happen to be oh dear….part Blackfoot Sioux(my Great Grandfather was from that area….yes on my mother’s side)….LOL…or so it was told to us….
I do think that its a bit strange that people wanna claim Blackfoot at all let alone Blackfoot Sioux, in my case at least I can claim dual nations if I want and it means very little because I wasnt introduced into the cultural aspects of each nation, assimilation and all….
So what does that do for those of us got it but know little about it?
He wants you to shut up about WargodPR1, or so it would seem. He does not want you to try to make any type of connection at all . Even if you have it. This post would seem that he wants you to forget about your roots .
Nah Joey I dont think that’s it….LOL
I think what he’s saying is that people like to say they have Indian blood even when they dont because it makes them sound more….ummm….more…LOL
I see his side, even though I dont agree or disagree with it. I’m mixed, I cant do shit about it cuz I wasn’t the fornicator, but I dont go around telling people at every opportunity I am just so it makes me sound like I’m more….LOL
I think what bothers Chris is that he IS and KNOWS, not simply claims….I can see how that would piss someone off.
I feel you on this. I am Black and Navajo (no, really) and whenever someone black asks me what I am mixed with, they tell me their grandmother was cherokee or some such. usually I want to say something like, “no my mom is ACTUALLY a Navajo woman. i am not one of you: pple who are claiming hereditary hearsay.” c’est la vie though.
Yeah Liz , heaven forbid someone try to make a connection with you .
Ironically,
It’s funny, everyday people aske me if I’m mixed or “who’s white in your family”. Often I am mistaken for 1) Mexican 2) Puerto Rican and 3) Blk/Wht mixed. I am none of the above. I am black however through years of blacks and indians getting together I have come out accordingly. I am part-Cherokee and my Cherokee grandfather was a chieftan which I guess makes me native royalty- if I were to go there but there is no sense because I am a black woman and live my life accordingly. However, the moment I am asked, “What are you?” which is everyday, I reply “black”. That is never enough for white or black people. I must have something else going on. To which I say with reluctance, “I have a lot of native american blood throughout my family”. People get disgruntled. They would rather I say white than native due to the old adage. For those of us who really are native please stand up. The article was funny but black folks, let it die. “nuff said
Jeezus. My roommate is Mashpee Wampanoag, and I couldn’t believe the shit she’d tell me about white people trying to pull this on her. Topped only by the incredible, unbelievable number of times a week she hears some variant of:
“Gosh, are you a REALLY REAL Indian?”
*facepalm*
ROTF, can I at least be a BLACK CHEROKEE ? Or how about the famous, I’m 1/2 Cherokee, 1/2 blackfoot and half, Irish and black? I don’t know is my math wrong or Is it possible for you to be more than a whole person ?
One thing I don’t understand right now, is why so many blacks hate to be black ? Is it self hate or do they really think … you know what let me just shut up, because I have had enough of it and it makes me so angry i could , spit and often have. Besides you said it all and very well i might add with just a BIG hint of humor,lo. I really enjoyed your post.
Most black Americans have white ancestry and hardly any have Indian since whites and blacks lived together for so long since the European invasion. But I think Native Americans have more white blood than anyone else in the world, honestly speaking. Ever since the European invasion they’ve been infecting us with their genes and diseases… not good for anyone.
Of all the groups the dude just had to pick Indians out… why not chinese, or the koreans… or WHITE PEOPLE…
White people do this too. We call them Cherohonkeys.
I’m mixed racialy. but I do not identify with any of my roots. Nether do i identify as christian ether(from a young age thankfully. And i think i was the only 8 year old to be kicked out of a church for failure to convert….on a cold feb sunday morning) so as an american who does not identify racialy spiritualy or sexualy (asexual). I can say this much. People spend to much time worried about what others think about them and IF you need to brag to make your self feal better, Why not spend that time bettering your self. Read a book, fix a hotrod. take a class. find a hobby. Something!
first of all i am part cherokee cause mi greatgrandmama is a cherokee indian boo and yez im black and mixed wit cherokee and i dont understand why u got to talk about black people like dat and having a website about us baby u lucky u on stay in mi neighbor hood and i kan sue u fa dat didnt u know dat and segregation should have been ova!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Dashiel Badhorse and others
no, most black americans don’t have white in them. slavemaster or otherwise. black folk fail to think about the logistics. the enslaved that outnumbered their slavers and in some cases the whole ‘state’ had their own children at a rate far greater than any rapist could spread his nasty seed. plantations needed more children/slaves so it was encouraged. some just assume a difference in pigment means some ole mix up, instead of realizing that there’s a natural variety of pigmentation in africa, specifically west africa and that exposure to sun has a slight effect as well as recessive genes nevermind that they’re not seeing every bleeding african to determine their various colours.
shit, with the rate of those that could pass (or find someone else close like them or white) after slavery that eventually that passed or had their children/grandchildren pass as white, who knows how many yt’s hot a secret ready to drop out their family tree.
how many adam clayton powells chose to not to pass when they easily could compared to those that did pass with no shame and with the quickness? i would put money on most passing like a mofo and most of them taking that secret to the grave
Well speaking Carribean Hispanics:Afro-latinos mainly have bad experiences with black people and most speak poor english. That is the situation in NYC not real racial tension.
They come into ghettos the majority of the time and just have nasty first experiences with rude, uneducated, poor black people who usually dislike foreigners and see them automatically as racist or as competition.
Im cuban and dominican ..afro-latinos on both sides, both people get along with all the other latin black people fine.I admit most of family on both sides cant STAND african americans/non hispanic blacks and some are downright beligirent and hostile.
The majority have a super negative view on non hispanic blacks in general ….especially African-Americans.
We DO come pre-programmed with the beleif that we mulatos are different and superior to pure blacks. But they are sooo many blacks that are mixed and mullatos themselves and we still discriminate.
They get that way because of bad expereinces that mold their perspectives towards AA’s.They come thinking a certain way but hold their tounge and try to keep an open mind but bad expereinces basically is the match to that can of gas.
Mainland ghetto Puerto Ricans are the only exception. Most of them dont speak spanish anymore and they grew up around blacks so they identify with black people more.
Island Afro-Boricuas are totally different they think like Dominicans(lighter is better, fry that hair, your only black if your dark,i speak spanish so im not fully black,im part taino,im mixed, hate non hispanic blacks, etc).
Blacks in Puerto Rico(of any kind)are mistreated and de-facto segregated in Puerto Rico so there is a sense of black pride but not the same as black countries.
Dominicans are the most left feild tbh because of our history with haiti and the goverment of Trujillo and Balaguer(who was trujillo light basically) brainwashing us into beleiving most of us are part Taino/Full Taino is some cases.
Some of us are real nutjobs ..probably the worse case of black selfhate in the world.Ive seen Wesley Snipe type Dominican claim to be white and ive seen White Dominican claim to be pure tainos.
But most just claimed to be mixed and are proud to be mulatos(we call it morenos or indios)..which is acceptable and the norm in the carribean/latin america.
Then you have Afro-Latinos from Central America who are mostly West Indians trapped in Spanish speaking countries are pro-black because ..they are black, they have a minimum of hispanic culture and self-segregate.
Afro-Cubanos are usually very proud of their roots even the ones that are mullatos and then you have more Dominican like minded people who are large minority and very vocal about not being the same as “molletos”..(lazy niggers).
Selfhate with Afro-Cubanos isnt rare but it isnt universal like Dominicans and Afro-Boricuas and you dont see Jerry Springer cases like in D.R.
Afro-Brazilians are almost as bad as Dominicans but you rarley hear a black brazilians thats dark as fuck claim to be anything else. But they are pretty bad with it as well.
Venezuelans,Afro-Colombians,afro-ecuadorians,etc..They are like Ricans, they are mistreated and have latent sense of black pride mainly because of segregation.Doesnt mean they know or care less about MLK,Malcolm X,Black Panthers,etc..just means they know they are different.
Dominicans and most (real)black P.R. are almost totally selfhating.Few claim to be 100 percent black and the darkest ones.
We are like a throwback lightskinned southern blacks and creoles from the pre-civil rights era.Thats the closest thing you can compare to for an american example.
Well like my post above..African Americans arent the only ones that have a love affair with indians.
Most Dominicans claim to be at least a little Taino and the majority of Boricuas white or black claim ALOT of taino heritage.
Difference is Latin America at least where there are large black pops,if you arent jet black then you are mixed(which is partially true in most cases but not neccesarily always true)and will be accepted as such usually.
You are pardo, mixed, moreno, indio, never black unless you are dark. And even if you are dark..money and education can somehow make you “moreno” in most people eyes.
Its a considered an insult to even call someone black. You call them moreno..brown.
In america you are black no matter what.
Yeah I know alot of (shit, most)black females that claim to be part indian and will ask anyone thats brown and light-skinned what they are mixed with… and after that tell that person what THEY are mixed with…like its an elite club or something.
Truth is most are lying and if they are mixed it isnt recent and its a 99 percent chance your blood was mixed with a white male.Plus they usually look black and not even mixed.
They will also show lighter dudes more love…especially if they are afro-hispanic.Ive heard this alot “I wouldnt date a Jamaican but i’d date a Dominican/Prican”…growing up in the east coast..
..”I like him,but he’s too black.I dont wanna a kid that black” and you turn around and the girl isnt even that light.I see and hear that everyday, even from people that are educated and in positions of power.
Many lighter AA’s wanna be buddy buddy with me even if you have nothing in common and freindship or even sex is unlikley. Its like they wanna propagate themselves…I guess that is natural though..But I dont see THAT much desperation amongst other groups of lighter blacks.
AA’s(male and female but more to the females)give me the feeling they subconciously want to intermix with people that are lighter as well. They will talk all types of shit about such and such person being colorstruck and “that yellow bitch think she’s white” but usually cant wait to get their hands on one or a latin person.
Darker skinned people are the ones that spark the “light is right” thing here in the states than in my country.Back home is mostly black people of lighter or medium skintone talking shit with the color complex and the ones that want to “lighten up the race”.
Here darkskinned blacks seem to be really mindfucked and colorstruck, and the ones constantly bringing the issue up.West indian women are real bad with this too.
I know girls that have literally bribed men to have children with them. Its real big in their culture to be have a light brown colored child with wavy hair..is almost a status symbol, like having a benz or condo or a college degree..”I wanna kid with hair and skin like yours”..heard this from every Jamaican,Guyanese,or Trini girl ive ever met.
Like ..”jewlery ..check..clothes..check….passport..check…brown baby with good hair..check…NOW im ready to go back to Bahamas”..
lol..
