I don’t think we should start comparing racial or ethnic pain, because ultimately we’d have to go back to pre-colonization era history and list all the countries the Jewish people were banned from, etc.

Suffice it to say, the Africans and the Irish were both sold into slavery by the British in the West Indies, and were forced to have sex at gunpoint in order to breed ‘mixed’ slaves, which were worth more. There are marriage licenses showing they were both viewed as ‘colored’ in some states. This perspective on the Irish had a lot to do with Ireland not being colonized at the same time as England, by the Romans. Neither background was intended to inherit America, but thankfully we both did.

It may interest some people that according to the Roman poet Juvenal, the best lawyers came from North Africa and Gaul. There were also a lot of Celtic and African hired warriors all over the globe. Just remember, your background is a lot more complicated than just what you can see in the mirror, because history is looonnngg.

I think the focus of this is all wrong. Racism is when you judge someone based on their race. This cannot go in reverse, it is an observation attached to what people think they know of that observation. If white guy feels left out because a black guy got a job because he was black, then he has every right to call racism. The truth of the matter is we are all used by the ruling class in efforts to maintain power and wealth. I think it was back in the early days of the gold rush where whites were paid just a little more than Chinese in order to provide a wedge within the laboring class. The lower class uneducated whites assumed they were better because they got paid more. This ignites racism by giving a poorly or not educated white person a reason to think well of himself, because at least he’s not Chinese. The folly in such thinking is that the Chinese had the most similar stake in what was happening. The wedge in the laboring class kept them from working toward their common interests, ie striking and demanding better wages and working conditions. This in turn kept the ruling class in a position to take in a large undeserving percentage of the fruits of their labor.

When I use that same reasoning today, I can see plainly that we are divided as a people, the ruling class has done well to convince many of us that our fates are not entangled. We have republicans and democrats, and neither of them look after the welfare of common everyday people… which is their job. Instead they focus on the wealthy interest groups. Some of these do happen to work for real people, the NAACP for example, but are mostly given lip service from law makers. Sadly it is the more affluent interest groups that get the most play. The bail out is a perfect example, and they said it on tv. “If you shower before work here’s your check, if you shower afterward, go find another job.”
If you don’t like racism, refrain from racist comments, and chastise those that use them in a constructive way. No one changes while someone is yelling at them, but a smile, a little sense and some interracial courteousy goes a long way.
Racism is the trap they want you to fall into. The knowledge of shared fate, the strength and beauty of unity is the way to win. Its a long struggle though.

I quite honestly do not understand why someone will think that she/he is at a disadventage because of skin color alone. There is no overt racism in this country, everything is on equal grounds. The country itself, as a matter of fact, is run by a black president. Some people may argue “Well… Obama is not black, he’s very much white inside.” What makes black person black enough then? Do we need to separate ourselves from the rest of the world obsessing over who’s black and who’s white inside? Is it productive? Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons of the world are unjustly reaping the benefits from racial division and disharmony. Yes, the world is not black and white per se, it is far more complicated than we may hope it to be and it sure is far from being perfect. No matter the case, further division and separation can never be the solution. It is time to open up and see eachother for the first time for who we really are. It is indeed time to use some common sense.

Why do people play the race card? Honestly, just accept the damn race, and move on….
I mean we’ll be here forever, and if god didn’t like us he wouldn’t of put us black (or whatever race/religion you are) people on this damn earth! Just move on with this damn planet! God! People are too blind to see that race doesn’t matter….it doesn’t! Honestly, acting like a bucn of kids….
Oh and there’s a huge difference between blacks, and us african americans….
african american: people who generally know they come from africa, and moved here for ex: I come from Ghana (and I’m a bit german) so I’m ghanian american

blacks: people who know they come from africa, but don’t know which part.
