I don’t get it chitlins don’t smell that bad and its coming from a white guy my friends mom made em one day and his brother said I must be black to not care about the smell though I didn’t eat them because if(in the rare case I didn’t like it hell I’m fat I like most edible meat) I didn’t want to offend his mom and I’m glad he saved me from it I’ll try them someday but not when I could possibly offend someones mom(that shit ain’t cool).

This post made me laugh so hard I was nearly sick. I currently live in a village in the outer islands of Hong Kong and there’s a whole lot of pig gizzard, pig foot (“pork paw”) and chicken foot eating that goes on around here. Not by me though.

Sadly, a lot of what you mentioned is also a HUGE part of Puerto Rican cuisine. The worst is cleaned pig intestine STUFFED with pig blood, white rice, and spices! And yes, watching that get prepared back home in P.R. was NAUSEATING!

Thank God I’m Muslim and don’t eat any of that stuff!

Her husband was a sharecropper before he died and she worked in the damn fields of Louisiana and even SHE knew that she was too good for slave food. Not only was your comment ignorant full of insult and idiotic lameness but it is a hypocritical comment. Your grandfather was a sharecropper , guess what mines was ? He was an engineer yes that’s right he graduated from UCLA in 1945. So I could easily say that your grandfather had a somewhat of a “slave job” right and look down on you . And you mentioned that your grandmother worked in the fields too , want to know what my grandmother did ? She was a homemaker never had to work in anyone’s field and she was able to stay at home and maintain a beautiful home while my grandfather worked . She also owned a cleaners later in life as well.
And she was very classy she just liked some pork by products every now and again where as your grandparents liked the slave work . Even my great granparents never worked in a field . They owned a corner market in Beaumont Texas and my great grandfather was a masonry artist. So please know that what you eat or do not consume makes you know better than the next person.

Although pigs feet were on the menu in my grandmothers home a time or two , she basically stayed away from the other pork by products. All of the aforementioned pork products are nasty and unhealthy. Sushi is tasty , so are certain items of sashimi.

However Asians also eat very nasty and unhealthy things.
Ie. rat (Vietnamese , and I saw a documentary about the culinary decadence of rats being consumed in Taiwan).

Also the eat very weird things such as roosters brow
chickens buttucks the list goes on , as in every other culture and creed.

Eating sushi doesn’t make one better than another person who eats pigs portions either.

I would never eat , hog mogs , fat back , chitterlings, etc , but hey that is just me!

i grew up on eating pickled pig feet… and pig tails, cow tongue…that stuff is good…can’t say i eat it all the time but still good…learned all that from my grandmother..R.I.P Nan…

I have never laughed so hard at any blog site before & I read alot. I have been calling this stuff “Slave Food” for years so the title caught my eye right away. I’m surprised that you failed to mention Snout(pig nose), ears, tails & tongue which are the other favored delicacies found in the “southern style” menus. A lot of our caribbean brothers & sisters still love to dine on this stuff too. All of that said I must admit that I still occasionally enjoy some “chitterlings” with hot sauce & ketchup.(no I am niether self hating or bougie. The name is on the box) and I like scrapple the same way, but fried nice & crisp. Oh well, I guess it’s in my genes.
